“Can I come in?”
A good-looking boy with white hair was knocking on the door. He was wearing a white shirt with elegant black pants. He was clearly there for the job interview.
A week ago, the owners of the coffee shop - Cheng Xiaoshi and Qiao Ling, two siblings - had hung up posters in the street asking the store for a hand, and offering a permanent job and a decent paycheque. He must have seen them and wanted to give it a try.
Or, at least, that’s what Cheng Xiaoshi thought when he saw the boy entering the store. Qiao Ling had already warned him that someone reached out for the job, and that they would pass that afternoon. She had also told him their name, but he chose to ask them anyway, just for being polite.
“You’re here for the job, right? May I ask you your name? Mine is Cheng Xiaoshi, by the way!”
“Yes, I’m here for the job. And my name is Lu Guang. Can you please tell me at what time I’ll have to be there in the morning? How many days at week I’ll work? How many days off I’ll have? And how much the paycheque is? I’m often busy, so what happens if something unexpected happens and I can’t come? I’ll be fired?”
“Hey, slow down!”
Xiaoshi said, putting his hands in front of his face.
“Now I’ll tell you everything you need and want to know. But, first, do you want to sit down and have a coffee with me?”
“Okay, yes.”
The two sat down, and, after Cheng Xiaoshi made themselves a coffee, he started talking.
“Ok, so, we need you to be here at 7:30 AM, we open at 8:00 AM, close again for lunch at 13:30, and re-open at 15:00. Then, we close at 20:00. Thirty minutes for cleaning, and you can go home. Me and Qiao Ling will be here for most of the time, so if you can’t come, it shouldn’t be a big problem. Of course, if you do it often, there will be repercussions. We are closed on Sunday, so you always have the Sunday free. You’ll have to work only one turn at day, you can decide yourself which one for each day…And for days off, whenever you need one, you can just ask me or Qiao Ling.”
“Okay, I think I said all you needed to know…any other questions?”
“Yes, one last question: how much is the paycheque?”
“Oh yes, that’s what I was forgetting! Sorry, for that, you can just talk with Qiao Ling. You already have her number, right?”
“Yes, thank you. Now I have an appointment, so I must go, but I think I will accept the job. Thanks again.”
“No need to be so formal! Hope I’ll get to see your cute face on Monday!”
