Work Text:
Himmel had told Frieren goodbye before, after their quest, and he hadn’t seen her for another fifty years. But this goodbye would be forever.
~
As Himmel watched the meteor shower he knew that he would have to say goodbye to her forever soon. He wasn’t going to live for much longer, his death was likely to come shortly after they returned to the city. He would leave his cloak and sword to her, she may not have any use for his sword, but she would have more use for it than he would, after all, if he was to die he would have nothing to use the blade for. His cloak was likely to be of more use to her in the coming years, it would provide warmth, and he hoped that it would provide some small comfort for her.
She had graced him with a properly magical view so close to his death. Frieren sat beside Himmel, the silver ring he had given her all those years ago was visible on her finger, it made him happy to see that she still wore it, even if she didn’t know what it meant. He hoped that his death wouldn’t be too painful for her, but he had to wonder if his death would draw any form of realisation from her, if it did it was an unfortunate thought to assume that she would only gain a painful realisation from his end.
Frieren cared about her friends more than Himmel thought she realised, she didn’t seem to realise that time flowed much faster for humans than it flowed for elves. Frieren may have been well over 1,000 years old, but she was still relatively young for an elf based on how she spoke. She seemed almost unchanged in the whole of the time that Himmel had known her, but she had perhaps grown taller, although it was rather difficult to tell.
She would live for thousands of years more, and Himmel felt it was perhaps a blessing that she had never seemed to fall in love with him, being without the woman he had fallen in love with for fifty years was bad enough, but he couldn’t imagine losing her for thousands of years, and he couldn’t imagine putting her through that.
Himmel sighed quietly and looked back up at the falling meteors, taking in the last gift Frieren would ever be giving him. The only thing that could make this better was if he had ever been able to show Frieren blue moon weed, and they could have been laying in a field of the beautiful flowers.
