Work Text:
Enid was walking distracted after having a fight with her girlfriend. She was wearing headphones with the music volume quite loud, so she couldn't hear the noise around her very well, everything could be heard very far away.
She was walking looking at the ground, quite upset by her girlfriend's attitude. Why was she complaining about how busy she was? They could be seen at another time.
God, she really couldn't understand why Wednesday was being so annoying lately, she has a life! She couldn't be by her side every day.
—Selfish— she whispered in annoyance as she crossed the street without looking either way.
Suddenly she heard a very distant scream through her headphones —Enid, watch out!—someone pushed her hard, making her fall flat on the ground.
Her headphones fell off because of the impact and she heard the murmurs of scared and shocked people. She carefully stood up, feeling her head spinning non-stop.
—Is she dead?— she heard, with effort she turned around, trying not to get more dizzy than she already was.
Suddenly her whole world seemed to fall, the breath left her from the shock and her knees weakened, making her fall on them. Frightened, she crawled towards the girl's body lying on the sidewalk. —Wednesday!— she screamed desperately.
The people around her girlfriend looked at her and stepped aside so she could get closer. —Call an ambulance!— she shouted when she saw the girl's closed eyes along with several scratches all over her face.
The people listened and meanwhile Enid held the goth's head to place it on her thighs, the fear grew when she felt hot blood emanating from the girl's neck.
—Wedns...— she sobbed, she caressed his girlfriend's cheek, trying to make her wake up. —You're going to be fine, my love, just hold on... please.— She got scared when she moved her a little, and the blood began to run down both nostrils.
The gothic got up quite scared and stunned, she observed the people gathered and murmuring, she approached to see what they were seeing and was impressed.
On the sidewalk was Enid holding his body in her arms. But how was that possible? She is next to her, standing watching her. She walked to get a better look and then gasped in fear, she looked at the blood around her neck and on her face.
—Wednesday... wake up— the blonde sobbed. Wednesday knelt down next to her and tried to touch her —Here I am, I'm fine, look at me, I'm next to you!— her voice was desperate.
When the ambulance arrived it was too late, they put the body on the stretcher and covered it.
Enid was crying inconsolably, not being able to believe what was happening —It can't be true, my God, it's not true!— she hit the ground in frustration and Wednesday tried to take her hand to prevent her from further hurting herself, but she failed.
—Don't hurt yourself, darling, we've talked about your attacks of anger, you just need to breathe.—She tried to touch her but failed again.
A paramedic came to help her and take her to the doctor.
The goth got into the ambulance and sat next to Enid. —I don't understand what's happening— she said, however no one seemed to be able to hear her.
Once at the hospital, she followed the tallest woman, until she found an old woman sitting down, who apparently could see her. —You're new— she told her.
Wednesday, scared, approached. — You can see me?— she asked unsurely, the woman laughed. —Of course I can, we're dead.— Hearing that, the brunette shook her head in disbelief.
—No, I'm not dead, I'm waiting for my girlfriend to be cured.— Her breathing became abnormal due to shock. —Girl, you're dead, do you see that?— The woman pointed to a stretcher with a body covered up to the head. —It's not me— she answered unsurely.
—Whose death certificate is it?— a nurse asked the paramedics, one of them answered, —According to this identification that we found in her wallet, she is Wednesday Friday Addams, 19 years old.— The aforementioned shook her head in disbelief, despite her always calm and serious personality, this news completely unhinged her.
—It's not true... it can't be true, I'm here!— She approached the nurse and the paramedic while moving her hands trying to get their attention. —I'm not dead, you have to believe me, look at me!— She kicked the desk, but her leg went through it.
—I told you, you're dead,— said the old woman from before, with complete seriousness.
Wednesday ran to the room where they were checking on Enid and found her, crying uncontrollably as they cleaned the scrapes on her arms and face and checked her wrist.
—Darling, I'm here— she said desperately, she approached and tried to kiss her cheek but failed.
Suddenly she saw a strong white light hitting her face, she looked up and was surprised, it was very beautiful and calming, she walked towards her until she heard Enid's voice —Are you sure she died? It could be a mistake—Wednesday turned around and looked at her crying disconsolately—It's not a mistake, miss, your girlfriend... she died the moment she was run over, she hit her head very hard, it was almost instantaneous.—
Wednesday looked at the light and then at Enid, with a confused look, as she debated what she had to do. —It's my fault...— she heard her say, her voice so broken that it seemed like someone else, so the goth returned, watching as the light went out and disappeared.
—It's not your fault, my love— she said, sitting next to her

A week had passed, Wednesday followed Enid everywhere and saw her every moment, feeling unhappy because her girlfriend couldn't see her, hear her, or feel her.
Now the blonde was crying hugging the black pillow that Wednesday used when she stayed the night. —It should have been me Wedns... this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't been so rude to you, I should have looked both ways before crossing...— she said through tears.
Addams looked at her sitting at the foot of the bed, with a sad and thoughtful look. —It's not your fault, you've always been distracted, I should have understood that you just wanted your space, I've always been the one who pushes you away, I couldn't stand that this time was different— she answered, although she knew that her girlfriend couldn't hear her.
—I would give anything for you to ask me out every day again, even if I don't have time, I would do anything to be with you again...— the wolf's tears couldn't stop.
Wednesday also began to cry, something she was not used to, and approached —I would give anything to touch you again, I miss feeling your pleasant body temperature— she tried to touch her shoulder but her hand went through it.
Angry at this, she got up and with all the anger she had accumulated she hit some leaves, but she was shocked when she saw them fall.
Enid jumped in her place and got up to pick them up, she checked the window because it was surely open and shuddered with a feeling of anguish when she found it closed.
—Tell me it's you— she asked eagerly. The Addams approached and tried to hug her, falling because she had failed again. —It's me, my love— she said sadly.
Enid sighed. “I'm going crazy.”

Six months passed quickly.
—Sometimes I feel like you're still with me— Enid said into the air, with her eyes closed and tears dry on her face, lying right where her girlfriend used to sleep.
Wednesday, who was next to her in order to feel her a little, sighed —It's because I'm here— she approached and tried to kiss her, she cried as always —I'll always be here—.
Enid sighed with the lump forming in her throat —I miss you so much…— the first tears came out again, Wednesday hated seeing her cry, she wanted to dry her tears, as she had done on other occasions, but she knew she couldn't —I miss you too darling—.
~~~
And just as six months passed quickly, 2 years flew by.
—Enid, you should go out with Ajax, he really seems interested in you— her friend Yoko told her one day.
The blonde sighed. —I don't know... it's only been two years since Wednesday left... I don't want to cheat on her, she's the love of my life— she said, looking at her cup of coffee.
—I know how you feel but Wednesday was the one who died, not you, and I'm sure she would like you to be happy.— Yoko spoke sincerely and the goth knew it.
—I don't want to forget her— Enid answered, confused and sad. Wednesday, who was sitting next to her, surrounded her hand in hers, but Enid didn't feel anything.
—You're not going to forget me, but you have to live— she told her, even knowing that she wouldn't listen to her.
Yoko sighed. —Just… think about it, okay?—
That afternoon Enid came home and looked at the clothes in the closet, she hadn't thrown away anything from Wednesday because it was the only thing she had left of hers.
—Should I continue?— she asked as she took one of the girl's monochromatic dresses, caressing it.
Wednesday hugged her waist and made a decision that hurt her. —Do it, you have to live— she said. Enid shivered, feeling an icy cold on the back of her neck, something that had never happened to her before.
Over time Enid agreed to get to know the boy more and realized how fun he was, he always made her feel good and understood her pain, he didn't pressure her into anything.
Wednesday accompanied them to their dates, and watched everything from afar, observing how the blonde smiled again as before, listening to her melodious laugh and observing the blush that occasionally painted her cheeks.
Enid was living again.
She was moving on with her life.
And it was time for Wednesday to let her go, because her beautiful Enid, her princess didn't need her anymore, she now had someone who cared about her like Wednesday did.
One night after four months of dating Enid kissed Ajax and Wednesday just smiled with a single tear running down her cheeks.
When Enid got home and got ready for bed Wednesday also got ready to leave.
She hugged the girl for the last time and felt her shudder like she did two months ago. —I need to go because you have to be happy, because you're alive— she said in her ear.
The tallest one shuddered and her eyes filled with tears because she had been able to hear her. —Wednesday...?— she asked with a broken voice.
The aforementioned smiled and nodded, she stood in front of her and caressed her cheek. Enid couldn't see her but for the first time she could feel and hear her.
—I love you— she said with a smile on her face.
Enid cried, —I love you too, my love.— She touched her cheek that was being caressed and closed her eyes.
Wednesday did the same and gave her a kiss, one last kiss.
—You were always with me— the tallest one stated. Wednesday smiled, as she rarely did, a natural smile, not that big, but at the end of the day it was a smile. —Always— she answered, happily.
—I have to go, when it's your time I'll see you up there—the light she had seen two years ago appeared again, she observed it and walked towards it, but before crossing, she managed to hear her beloved's voice for the last time —Wednesday Addams, you are the love of my life—it came out with a broken tone.
The Goth smiled as she cried with happiness, looked at her one last time and uttered her last prayer —And you were the love of my life, Enid Sinclair— she crossed and was lost among the white splendor.
