Once Shouto and Katsuki pass by the same, lone tree that has already shed its leaves and is buried with footfalls of snow, Shouto can admit that they are both lost. It’s not like Shouto is upset over getting lost— the night’s sky looks wonderful, and the snow falls rather delicately, almost like slow rain, except for the fact that they’re cold to the touch. Which… is not a problem for Shouto with his Quirk, never having a seasonal weakness unlike the partner right next to him, who is subtly shivering.
He’s the one who insisted on going out for a snow date. Shouto doesn’t complain, because… he gets to spend more time with Katsuki. Is there another reason for him being so forward with agreeing to his request? (Or demand, but Shouto is right where he wants to be.)
Shouto sighs, looking up at the night sky with bright, mismatched eyes and a captivated gaze at the stars. There are a dozen lights flaring all around him, completely encompassing them in sheer brightness (another reason why Shouto does not feel concerned that they are, in fact, lost) as he buries himself deeper in the blue-striped scarf Katsuki had thrown over to him before they went out.
He picks at the fabric with a satisfied look on his face. Now he knows why Aizawa-sensei loved burying himself in his capture cloth, away from the real world and into the confines of a palace made all for his comfort. Too bad it wasn’t that long, nor cozy. It was just enough to keep him warm, or make him remember to keep himself and Katsuki warm.
Katsuki, however, is not standing near the side that will ensure he’ll keep himself warm in the winter day. He’s probably too certain of himself that he won’t freeze to death. (Which he won’t— Katsuki is not stupid, and Shouto is, admittedly, too protective of people he loves.)
When he looks over towards Katsuki, the blonde isn’t looking at Shouto, even though he had felt him looking a while ago. He was on his phone, red eyes squinting at whatever is staring brightly from his phone.
He looks like a cat, if Shouto thinks about it for more than a few seconds. Although, from the way Katsuki’s brows are pinched and his eyes are narrowed as if he’s trying to see whatever is on the screen…
Shouto lets a breathless chuckle escape his lips, creating a soft flurry of air in front of him. Katsuki looks up at him with a questioning glare. Because he’s not able to look at things in a calm manner, apparently.
“What?” Katsuki bites out, subtly shivering from the cold weather. Shouto not-so-subtly leans closer to him, and lets out a silent cheer when Katsuki does not run away from his advances, and rather, supports him with his own weight.
Suddenly, the chilly air does not reach them in their focused pillars of strength. Shouto will marvel Katsuki’s capability to stay warmer than the rest of his classmates any day, just like him.
Meaning, Shouto will just have to try harder to get him to lean onto him more voluntarily, and in a shorter time frame as well.
Katsuki scoffs, walking forward, and Shouto almost stumbles, realizing he leaned most of his weight onto Katsuki. That moment makes Shouto realize that he had been staring way too long at Katsuki’s face, and has not answered his question; something Katsuki will take personal offense to, for the matter.
“We're lost, aren’t we?” Shouto asks in a sing-song voice as he follows Katsuki, who is still on his phone. Now that Shouto can see the screen clearly, he can't help but feel vindicated for guessing right— his phone is projecting the map of their area right now, and seriously, who would lose sight of what they came here for, anyways?
(Shouto would plead guilty.)
Katsuki rolls his eyes. “I don't see you doing shit to know where we are.” It's a confirmation that they are, in fact, lost.
“You were going to take me out on some big area, right?” Shouto points out and motions around him. “Well, you did just that.” He grimaces slightly. “It could do with less light, though. It's killing the winter land vibe this place has.”
Now it's Katsuki’s turn to grimace. “You gotta stay away from Kaminari and Ashido when we have our class reunions. Don't want their shitty clown language to multiply faster onto you.”
Shouto smiles. “You're so considerate.”
“I have to keep my damn sanity.” And he is still on that phone.
Shouto decides that he wants to look at Katsuki; what better way than tell him that? Shouto leans into him, giving him another small, tentative smile.
He looks up, unimpressed. “What now?”
“This is fine, you know?” Shouto says, looking up at the sky, and then back at Katsuki with an appraising smile. “I like spending time with you, even if we’re lost in the lights and snow. I don’t think I’ll trade this for anything.”
Katsuki blinks, as his eyes lose its ferocity, replaced with… utter domesticity. It’s a nice look on his boyfriend’s face.
Katsuki raises a brow. “Not even for a bowl of soba?”
Shouto laughs. “Well, maybe I can make one exception.”
Katsuki elbows him on the stomach lightly. “Asshole— willing to trade me for a bowl of cold fucking soba I can cook for him easily!”
“It’s a joke!”
“I know, asshole!” Katsuki crosses his arms. “But yeah, feeling’s mutual. If only we got out of this damn snow and headed for someplace warm, maybe this would’ve been a better way to end the damn date.”
“Well… how about I take a look at the map this time around?” Shouto volunteers, taking out his phone. Instead of heading straight to the map app on his phone, however, he proceeds to head to the app most likely to annoy Katsuki, and ends up taking a selfie of himself with a thumb pointed at Katsuki, whose eyes were on his phone.
Once Shouto captures this moment in history, he turns to Katsuki, who was giving him an unimpressed look.
“Really?”
“Yeah, the fans would like this kind of material for their… shrines, or something. Do you know you have one somewhere in—”
“I know, Shouto, but really?”
“Sorry.”
“God, could’ve warned me, at least. Ya gotta show them I’m making out with you to make it clear that you’re officially taken.”
Shouto sputters, his words coming out an intense garble of mismatched language. “Noted.”
