Work Text:
It’s one of those days again where Fury notices she leaves flakes of blood everywhere she goes. She heaves an annoyed sigh as she makes her way to the bathroom and kneels over the bath, draping her hair into the tub.
With the water running, crusts of blood clareting into the tub and flowing down the drain, Fury realises that this is more of an ordeal than she had realised but continues regardless, chastising herself for letting it get this bad once again.
After 15 minutes of very little progress, she cautiously touches the top of her head, fearing the worst. Pushing against it, she can’t help but curse as her entire scalp moves with it, connected by one giant, flaky scab of dried blood that has plastered her hair stuck to her scalp. Not to mention the mess of tangles that her hair has become due to her negligence.
Another 15 minutes later and she has not made any progress. The still intact skin on her one hand now wrinkly from the water. She tilts her head as she notices a figure standing in the doorway.
Damsel, with her big eyes and hands clasped in front of her chest stands in the doorpost as she stares at Fury’s predicament.
“Stay right there. I’ll help you.”
And she’s gone before Fury can even respond. Not that she particularly wants to but Damsel is back before she can finish her thought.
“Alright, now we can get to work to properly clean you.”
“Just my hair right?” Fury asks hesitantly as she eyes Damsel.
“Of course silly, what else did you think I meant?”
“Nothing, what’s that?” she points towards the bucket in Damsel’s hands.
“My conditioner, brush, sponge and blow dryer!” She answers with a smile.
“Now, may I help you?” She asks as she sits on the edge of the bath, already putting the items away in on the bottom of the tub, putting the blow-dryer a safe distance away from the water.
“…Yes.”
Damsel steps into the bath and fills the bucket with lukewarm water, adding a bit of conditioner, the scent of strawberries permeating the air, and starts to soak Fury’s scalp with the sponge.
“Close your eyes, don’t want you getting any water in them.” Damsel says as she starts to hum a tune Fury doesn’t recognise.
At her request, Fury closes her eyes and starts to lose herself in Damsel’s humming and her soft touches on her blood caked scalp.
The next 45 minutes go by in a blur with Fury only partially aware of what is happening, the lukewarm water over her scalp feels nice, Damsel’s fingers feel divine as she rubs her scalp, peeling away the caked in blood from her hair.
The rest of her hair soon follows as she dunks it into the bucket to soak and then takes a brush to it, expertly working out the tangles as Fury dozes off, her head resting on the side of the bathtub.
The warm air and sound of the blow-dryer stirs Fury back to consciousness. Confused, she looks around to discover that her head is now in Damsel’s lap, the latter looking into her eyes with a soft smile on her face.
Heaving a sigh, Fury leans her head back and closes her eyes once more, letting herself get lost in Damsel’s care this one time.
