Work Text:
You were a famous author. You used to write some fanfics and original stories in a website, emailed a publishing company just to try your luck and to your surprise, 4 of your old works and 3 new ones got published. You blew up- metaphorically.
And your biggest muse? Red Hood. You wanted to meet or at least see him once so you organised a signing event in Gotham, thinking in worst case scenario, you would be in the same city with him.
What you didn’t knew was that Jason Peter Todd aka Red Hood was your biggest fanboy. He was since you were a teenager putting your work in websites. He bought every single book (the first editions of course) and every special edition that got published, he had multiple copies of one book simply because of that, he had a whole bookshelf dedicated to your books only, posters and cards from your books hang on his wall and he had multiple journals filled with his favourite quotes from your novels.
He was absolutely obsessed.
So when he found out you would be coming to Gotham? He cleared his scheduled for that day and got in line 5 hours before the signing event.
You had printed out new special editions of your books for this event, called them “Gotham-Editions”.
He wanted to buy every single one of them and ask you to sing them. He had brought his own pen (he had bought a quality pen in your favourite colour) so he could ask you to sign the books with the pen and keep the pen- an item you touched.
He knew he was way too obsessive.
He didn’t care.
You got ready, put on your pretties dress, did you makeup and even used your lucky lipstick. You arrived from the back door, the line was already forming at the front door while you set up the tables. As soon as the doors opened, Jason stormed in, went to your desk with a wide grin, his face flushed as he asked “Can I buy every special edition?”
You were taken a back for a second- by his request and by how handsome he is.
You tilted your head, eyes wide slightly with surprise. “Every book?” You asked to confirm and he nodded. His heart was racing and eyes were shining. He whipped his sweaty hands on his jeans, biting his bottom lip as he waited for your answer.
You smiled, his heart stopped beating for a moment. “Why not?” Your answer made him beam with happiness as he pulled out the pen. “Can you also use my pen to sign the books please?”
He held out the shiny pen that was in your favourite colour. He seemed so excited that you couldn’t deny him and nodded. “Alright. What’s the name?” You picked up the pen and pulled the books in font of you, opening the first page.
“Jason Todd” he blurted out, his voice shaking. God you were even more beautiful in real life. He felt like a teenager all over again, his heart doing weird things at every single move you made as you signed ‘With love from [Y/N] to Jason, may your love for books never die’.
He was rocking on his heels while you moved on to sign the next book, leaving a different message on each while you made small talk.
He told excitedly about how he had been following you before you were even publishing- he told you his username (RedReader) and you recognised him as one of the first people to read your writing. That made you ease up to him and you started to talk more easily to him, the last book you signed even got a special message you told him to check only once he is home.
You finished signing his books and handed the pen back to him. He pouted, obviously not wanting to leave your side but he had to move on so the next person in line- a sweet girl looking really excited- could get her line. He smiled shyly at you before he waved at you and walked away.
He went home, put the books in his special shelf but checked the last book with the special message first. ‘To my first reader, thank you for supporting me all the way and always encouraging me to do better. You will always have a special place in my life, with much love and gratitude, [Y/N]’ He felt like he was going to faint. He knew he was an really reader but he never noticed that he was your first ever reader. Back then, you had always texted with your regular readers through social media, asking for feedback, he was not only on of the constant feedback giving ones or one of the earliest readers but he was also the FIRST. That made him feel special- you wouldn’t forget him because he was your first ever fan.
Jason wanted you to have a safe stay in Gotham so he quickly suited up and ran back to the building, keeping watch on a nearby rooftop to ensure your safety. He couldn’t keep you safe as Jason Todd, but he could do it as Red Hood without trouble.
Time went by as he watched the event through the window on the rooftop. The fans left, you started to gather your stuff and left the building from the back door again. Red Hood followed you, his eyes fixated on you and your surroundings, he wouldn’t let ANYTHING happen to you, ever.
You clutched your purse tighter, looking around frantically. It was dark and there was a fog that seemed to appear only in Gotham, a creepy fog filled with danger.
“Hands where I can see them!” You felt a gun pressed against your head and gulped, eyes widening in shock and fear. Of course, a mugger, this was Gotham after all. The man held a sack in front of you. “Put every valuable item you have in there!”
Just when you were about to put your purse into the sack with trembling hands, you heard a loud thud, the sack falling to the ground, the gun wasn’t pressed against your head anymore.
You heard a gunshot and flinched, moving to turn away only to stopped by gloved hands holding your shoulders. “Don’t turn around” the deep voice said. “I don’t want you to get scarred” very slowly, Red Hood moved to stand in front of you, his eyes searching you up and down to ensure you weren’t injured. “Are you hurt?” He asked with worry in his voice.
You nodded, eyes shining. “Oh my god…” the whisper fell from your lips. “Red Hood!” You exclaimed in excitement, beaming, all fear disappearing. You couldn’t believe it, your muse, your hero, was standing right in front of you. “I always wanted to meet you!” You looked up at him with beaming eyes, causing his heart to skip a beat- maybe multiple ones, fuck, his heart felt like it had stopped beating but at the same time like it was beating faster than ever.
“R-Really? I am a big fan too!” He tried to keep his composure, his hands clenching and unclenching by his sides- he had no idea what to do with them. An adorable blush coloured your cheeks and he had to restrain himself from kiss your red face.
“A fan? Of me…?” You whispered, heart thumping. Red Hood nodded, you were too excited to notice before but he was huge, towering over you, but he didn’t feel intimidating, he felt more like… a protector. “You are m-my muse” You added with wide, shining eyes, looking like a little meeting her favourite Disney Princess- but you were a grown woman meeting your favourite vigilante and muse.
“Your muse?” Jason was glad you couldn’t see his face behind the helmet- he was redder than his helmet. “R-Really?” He stammered out with excitement. The small, shy nod you gave him gave him the world. “T-That’s… that’s great-“ he cleared his throat, why was his voice higher all of a sudden?
He tried to lean on the wall next to you, only to stumble and catch his balance last second, biting his lips and looking down awkwardly before stepping closer to the wall and leaning on it, embarrassing, he thought to himself. “I-I was actually at the event today” he tried to change the topic.
“Really?” You tilted your head, your eyes filled with surprise and amusement, surprise that he came to your event and amused at his antics- he was cute, the way he tried to act composed even though he was obviously too excited, he reminded you of a small puppy. “Y’came as a civilian then, huh?” It was more of a statement than a question.
He nodded. “Yeah… uhm…” he looked down, unsure how to proceed- you didn’t only know his Hero-Persona, he was even your muse! Everything felt so surreal that he was scarred he might wake up, that would be awful. “I am a long time fan- from back when you were writing fics on that website…” you blushed, he was a long time fan? From before you were famous?
“We probably texted at some point then?” You asked, you always asked the people reading your fics and stories for feedback and even texted with some on social media. Red Hood nodded. “Yes! It’s me, RedReader!” He was so exited that he forgot he already told you that- as Jason- as a civilian.
You froze, you were a smart woman and it came with being a writer to put this type of stuff together. “Jason Todd?” You walked closer to him till the tip of your heels touched the tip of his combat boots.
He gulped, fuck, he felt stupid. “U-uh… no- I mean- yes- fuck- no- Fuck!” He couldn’t say no because you knew Jason was RedReader, this would mean either Jason or Red Hood had to be a liar but he didn’t want you to see him or his hero-persona as a liar. “Yes… that’s my name” his shoulders slumped. What was he going to do now?
You bit your lips, the handsome guy who was early enough to be first in line, got himself all special editions book you printed for this event and was your first ever reader was the same vigilante you adored? “Wow…” you whispered, looking up, placing your purse on the ground next to you two so you could cup his face- well, helmet. “T-that’s unexpected…” a deep blush appeared on your face again.
“Y-yeah…” Jason had no idea how to proceed. “You wanna take off my helmet?” He asked, heart racing.
You sucked in a deep breath, hands starting to shake. “Wouldn’t it cause trouble?” Jason shrugged. “No… I don’t mind if it’s you…” he couldn’t believe he was doing this but god help him- he wanted you to see the real him, the him that wrote fics about Bruce and/or Batman when he got mad at B, the him that had a soft spot for cookies, the him that spent hours in his library, the him that was… obsessed with you.
You started to lift his helmet with shaky hands, your heart beating so hard, it felt like it would burst out of your chest. When you finally took off his helmet and let it fall next to your purse on the ground, you froze- out of amazement.
He stood there, shy and blushing, his hair slightly ruffled, making him look like a boy again, the strand of white giving him a different air. “Hi” you smiled sweetly as he searched your face to figure out what you felt about this reveal- all he saw was wonder, amazement and adoration, a mirror of his own gaze. “Hi” he smiled back at you shyly. Both of you giggled before he slowly wrapped his arms around your waist to pull you even closer. “Is this okay?” He asked, voice a bit shaky and unsure, he hated how he couldn’t stay calm and impress you.
You smiled and got on your toes so you could wrap your arms around his neck- you were dwarfed by him even though you wore heels. “It’s perfect” Your words, spoken so soft and gentle, did things to him he couldn’t explain, he couldn’t react properly. “You’re perfect” he blurted out before thinking, making him blush even more, he had never blushed before in his life until he met you and boom, he was now getting shy and flustered at everything.
You held your breath at his words. “Maybe we are destined to be more than just Author and Muse?” You asked, unsure. Jason nodded and leaned his forehead against yours. “Can I be please more than just your muse? Please? I want to get to know you, court you, make you see me the way I see you” his whole body was tense, eyes filled with hope and fear, it was utterly endearing. “Only if I can be more than just your favourite author”
Jason sighed with relief. “You are becoming my favourite person” he stated before leaning down to kiss you. The kiss wasn’t rushed, it was slow, soft, sweet, gentle, adoring, his lips moved against yours like he is afraid of hurting you, like you’re the most fragile and precious thing in the universe. It was breathtaking, not because it was heated but because it was filled with so much emotion and care. No one had kissed you like this before.
When you pulled back to breathe, Jason’s face was a deep red. This was his first kiss. Before his death, he was too busy being Robin and too young to date, after his resurrection, he was busy being Red Hood and a crime lord, he had never kissed a girl before, let alone like this. “Was it… good?” He asked shyly, causing you to laugh softly. “It was perfect.”
