“Oh, Austinnnnn~” X cooed from the hallway, banging on his bedroom door in an effort to get inside. “Are you ready yet? The others are all waiting on us!”
“X, I told you, I wanted to stay in for Christmas this year.” Austin retorted, leaning on the door with his arms crossed. Though as he did that, in the same moment X realized it was unlocked and opened it. Austin was pushed with an oof, giving a half-hearted glare to his girlfriend.
“I wanted a day off drinking eggnog, rewatching Die Hard, and pretending my problems don't exist. You see how this directly contradicts that, right?”
“But if you skip out, think of all the fun stuff you're gonna miss!” X continued, ignoring his complaints as she walked into the room, putting her hand on his shoulder. She gave an apologetic smirk for accidentally shoving him, and he couldn't help but sigh fondly. Damn her, for making him feel such affectionate things when he was supposed to be mad…
“There's gonna be all the yummy food Jake baked, party games like White Elephant, and since Ilya's folks went away for the night we have the whole house to ourselves to get wasted and pass out past midnight!” She further explained, shaking his shoulders enthusiastically with a wide grin.
“Not to mention this is Two Time's first Christmas! We gotta show them how things are done in the real world, y'know?”
“Eugh, are you trying to make me want to go to this party or not?” Austin snorted, internally gagging at the mention of the cultist.
“Though if that's not enough... I'm also gonna be there.” X pulled away from him, bringing her hands to her face and giving her best attempt at puppy eyes possible. “You wouldn't wanna skip something I'm gonna be at… right?”
Austin's face flushed, and he readjusted his glasses to try and hide it. She always knew what to say to ruffle his feathers.
“You're the worst..” He muttered as he looked away, knowing she had won.
“But you love me anyway!” She teased, poking him on the cheek. He shooed her hand away, but couldn't help the small smile that came to his face.
“Fine. I suppose I can put up with Two Time's delusional spawn-talk, and Ilya's terrible carol singing… just this once, though.” He quickly clarified, coughing into his fist to try and keep his pride. X just snickered before dragging him by the hand through the door and back into the hall.
“That's the spirit, babe!” She cheered, mentally patting herself on the back for another expected victory.
Although as they stepped into the dimmer light of the hallway, she couldn't help but notice something as it dangled above them.
“Hey.. was this mistletoe always there?” She pointed out, bringing Austin's attention to the small faux-flower.
“Oh, that. Ilya gave it to me last year as a gag gift. Not sure why, but he thought it was funny, so I kept it.” He shrugged, although he looked down at X's eyes with something of a tease. He had totally forgotten it was there, but now that he was reminded…
X opened her mouth to speak—likely another snarky comment—before being caught by him in a kiss. She quickly melted at the feeling, wrapping her arms around his back and smiling into it.
As he pulled away, looking smug as he once again fixed his glasses, she almost wished the kiss had lasted longer. But she'd take what she could get—after all, he just looked too cute after getting kissed by her.
“Now c'mon! Don't wanna make us anymore late than we already are, do you?” She laughed, taking him by the hand and walking further down the hall.
“Don't threaten me with a good time.” He chuckled, but he couldn't hide the affection in his gaze as he followed her. Something that he'd probably always end up doing.
