“Yuder, good morning, dear” Kishiar smiled softly at his lover as he entered the office connected to the bedroom, he was already dressed and ready to work, but the sleepy look on his face was undeniably cute, according to Kishiar.
“Good morning” Yuder replied softly, his eyes laying still on Kishiar’s working form.
Glancing at the documents on the desk, Yuder silently approached, reaching out to take a pile of documents to go through, but a swift hand landed upon his- Yuder looked up with confusion at those ruby-like eyes.
“You must not worry about work today” Kishiar offered a kind smile, then continued. “Your friends have prepared a fun day, why don’t you hang out with them instead?”
“…” from outside, Yuder’s expression could have been described as unexcited, but for Kishiar, the glint of excitement in his eyes was subtle but clear.

“Kanna, did you need me?”
Kanna almost flinched at the sudden appearance of her friend, despite not being in a dangerous situation, Yuder’s steps were silent.
“Yuder! The commander allowed us to take a day off for the carnival downtown!! You should come!”
Kanna exclaimed loudly, her eyes carried a glint Yuder didn’t wish to extinguish, thus, not so reluctantly, Yuder accepted the offer; and before he could blink, he was being dragged across the training grounds to meet up with Gakane, who had just finished his training lesson with Sir Zuckerman.
“Kanna! Yuder! You got him to come! No way!” Gakane exclaimed happily, looking like an excited puppy, if he had a tail, it would be wagging.
Kanna nodded and smirked contentedly. “I did! Let’s get changed into something more casual before we leave”
Yuder’s head tilted to the side just a bit- was changing really necessary? Their uniforms were enough…
“You should change too Yuder, I will as well, we won’t be recognised, this way, it will be more fun” Gakane spoke confidently, or at least that’s what he wanted to convey, but Yuder could see that the reality was another.
Nevertheless, Yuder nodded reluctantly at the two. “Alright, let’s meet here in 20 minutes”
Kanna chuckled, then quickly walked towards her room, rushing into the females’ ward, Gakane and Yuder gave a quick glance to eachother before walking towards their respective rooms.
Once his closet was open, Yuder found few clothes that weren’ uniforms or the elegant suits he wore in the past, still, he found a neat off-white shirt and black slightly flared trousers, nodding to himself, he got dressed quickly and walked to the meeting point early.
Only a few minutes later, both Kanna and Gakane reached the meeting point, Yuder glanced at their outfits:
Gakane was wearing a similar shirt to Yuder’s, though his was larger. He was wearing brown stylish trousers and a heavy jacket, Yuder thought he looked neat.
As for Kanna, her choice of clothes was stylish and on trend, a casual dress that perfectly fit the theme, paired with comfortable boots.
“Are we ready?” Kanna asked excited.
Gakane nodded enthusiastically before guiding the others towards the exit, where the carriages were.
“We have a carriage?” Yuder inquired, Kanna smiled softly and replied.
“The commander was very kind; he insisted on letting us take a carriage for our day off”
Yuder nodded seriously, then turned and walked in the carriage.

The ride wasn’t tedious or long, not when with Yuder there were Kanna and Gakane, after all, today they were especially happy, and even if he wouldn’t admit it, their happiness rubbed off on himself as well, an ever so slight smile painted his face.
Kanna chuckled under her breath, as much as she wished to call Yuder’s smile out, she restrained herself; next to her, Gakane held a hand over his mouth, his eyes watching Yuder look out the window.
It didn’t take long for the three of them to arrive, and as soon as they did, Gakane and Kanna dragged Yuder over to the carnival, running fast.
The carnival entry was beautifully decorated- it wasn’t grand or luxurious, but it was colourful and fun, once inside, multiple commoners were selling different snacks as well as small toys, in addition, there were multiple carnival games.
Looking at it, Yuder found the atmosphere pleasant, much more different than the many banquets he had taken part in- here, there weren’t contracts everywhere or fake smiles, everyone was genuine.
“Yuder! Let’s go take those snacks first” his hand was gently tugged towards the stand, softly smiling, Yuder walked quickly behind Kanna.
Before Yuder could take out the money he had on him, a sweet snack was already in his hand, warm and sugary- he didn’t plan on eating anything, really, but it would have been a waste… therefore he ate it as the others did, though it earned a chuckle from his friends, Yuder wasn’t sure why.
When everyone finished eating, the group moved towards a stage, where dancers were starting to get in position, in the background, soft musical instruments played classical soft music, soon enough, the young women started dancing gracefully, their moves in sync as they performed beautifully, when the performance ended, the ladies bowed down and laughed cheerfully, finally accepting tips and gifts from the cheerful crowd.
Yuder’s expression was as serious as ever, but Kanna could feel that her friend was happy, her eyes forming into pleased slits.
After giving one of the dancers her compliments and a small gift, Kanna looked back at Gakane, whose eyes were busy admiring a fried snack being made.
“Gakane?” The man jumped and barely contained his surprise, Yuder crossed his arms, a slight smile painting his face, whereas Kanna started laughing loudly, clutching her stomach.
“…”
“Come, I’ll offer you a snack”
“Snack- I don’t need one!” Gakane whispering tried to stop Yuder from going, but it was to no avail.
Soon, the younger man returned with 2 fried snacks to offer to his friends, however, after witnessing the other two’s fight to give their snack to him… he was forced to go back and take another one, which he didn’t waste.
“Yuder! It says, ‘test your strength’ we should try it!” Kanna exclaimed loudly, and Yuder along with Gakane nodded, following her to the stand far away.
The stand was simple, some haystacks adorned with paint to simulate a target were standing a fair distance away from the stand, the keeper held up one bow and a few arrows, above the stand the writing read ‘test your strength’.
Yuder sighed internally, but payed the keeper nonetheless for a couple plays, the first one to go was Kanna, and, unsurprisingly, she got all of the targets perfectly, she had been improving a lot and Yuder really was proud- even though this was too simple of a task… should he make the training harder?
The second to go was Yuder, he had tried offering the play to Gakane, ultimately failing, thus, giving up, he raised the bow high and took a perfect stance- the wooden, cheap bow extended and vibrated, then, the arrow flew over the target, leaving a deep dent on the very centre.
The keepers mouth stayed open as Yuder centred the next arrow, except this time it split the first arrow open, and so for the third
Shocked to his core, the keeper offered the rewards, some homemade bread and some hand sewn plushies, they were beautifully made, there was no denying that, but Yuder, not wanting to take off the opportunity from someone else, gave them back, just paying for the arrows he split.
Just as he was walking back, hearing his friends chatting, he heard the keeper loudly talk to him.
“Wait! Young man, if you’re going to pay back for the arrows, then at least accept a gift.” Yuder turned back and finally decided to accept the gifts, slightly bowing his head to thank the man.
“Thank you”
In his hands lay two small plushies, barely fitting the palm of his hand, one was a bunny holding a heart, the other was a lion, holding another heart.
‘… I could give one to the commander.’
“Yuder! Look this one’s a scary house, let’s go inside”
“A scary house?” Kanna smiled brightly pointing at it with her finger.
“I’ve been to one when I was a kid, there are people trying to scare you and they make the atmosphere creepy”
“We should all go in together, come, I’ll pay for the entry” Gakane offered, Yuder sighed internally, but there was no denying it, this really was fun.
From outside it was obvious that the house was created using temporary and cheap materials, but inside, due to the dark atmosphere, everything looked realistic and creepy.
The halls were similar to one another, and inside different rooms different decorations lay untouched- some with fake spider webs.
“What’s this?” Gakane whispered to the two, going to touch a still statue-
Suddenly, the ‘statue’ moved towards Gakane and screamed so loud Yuder could feel the vibrations in the walls, Gakane ran through the halls until there was nowhere else to run, encouraging a sudden laugh from the disguised commoner.
“Hahahaha!”
“…” Gakane silently composed himself and ran back to his friends as if nothing had happened, but of course, they were chuckling- and by both he means, even Yuder.
“…”
“Hah…” Kanna was clutching her stomach, until a disguised small girl screamed behind her, causing her to scream just as loudly as Gakane.
“…” this time the last one chuckling left was Yuder, and strangely, neither of the other two felt bad, rather, they were… happy, so much so that they both laughed hard.
Having all agreed on taking a break on the grass, they all settled down and got comfortable as the sun slowly got lower and lower.
“I had fun today; we should go out during off days more often- you too, Yuder” Kanna spoke softly, laying down on the grass, completely relaxed.
“Yeah, it was fun!” Gakane smirked cheerfully, next to him, Yuder’s mouth tilted ever so slightly upwards, a soft smile softening his features.
“Yes, thank you.”

“You’re already back? You should have stayed longer; the sun has yet to set” the commander smiling told Yuder when he came to the office- they didn’t have any work meeting in program, but their relationship was beyond that.
“Commander.”
“Mhm?” Kishiar’s eyes scanned Yuder, what was he hiding in his hands?
“Commander… I got you a gift” the ruby-like red eyes lit up like flames.
“…” Kishiar stayed silent, the happiness he felt stopping his words.
“It’s not exactly suitable for a noble… but here.” Yuder offered Kishiar the lion plushie, it was small, but it was hand sewn perfectly.
Kishiar immediately took the small plushie and opened up his arms, a warm hug after being out all day was all Yuder needed.
“Thank you so much” the whispered words barely made it to Yuder’s ears, but now, both of them were clutching a small plushie in their hands, and neither would ever be lost.

Yuder: we’re literally cavalry members we’re obviously going to be able to throw an arrow a few meters away…
Kanna: prove it!
Yuder: I’m making your training plan harder
Kanna: …

Yuder: *shows a perfect stance*
Keeper: …should I hide the rewards?

Yuder: …what
