Work Text:

They didn’t usually wake up to Travis yelling - well, not anymore. It shook Gabbi out of sleep, but she could hear some of the others responding and no one sounded like they were in immediate danger, so she shrugged into a robe before heading to her door, still a bit sleepy.

You’d think banishing Crump would’ve been the end of that entirely, but things did have a tendency to get attracted to the manor. Travis had actually been the one to point out that they were running a kind of bed and breakfast, really. It’s just none of the guests paid.

Kent maintained that they had to be getting solid scores on ghost Yelp, because why else would things keep showing up?

Opening the door into an Escher painting did wonders to clear away the last of the sleep fog, though. “Travis? Harriet?!”, she yelled, trying to look around without falling... sideways? Up? “Where are you? Bruce?”

“Up this way! Gabbi - wait I think I’m to your right?” Bruce responded, and when saw found him he was sitting perched on a banister. Sideways. In response to her questioning stare, he just shrugged. “Hey, I’m not falling and to me, it feels like I’m sitting upright. You look upside down though. ...why does the weirdest shit always happen when we’re all here?”

Before she could respond to that, she heard Travis again. “Mom! Mom, look down!”

And there was, what looked like two stories below her, “Honey, you’re hanging from the roof. How... I mean, why am I asking, it’s ghost stuff. I know this.” Gabbi shook her head and bit back the wave of nausea from the house seeming to shift with her. “Okay, you feel okay honey?”

“I’m fine, Mom. This is kind of cool honestly? You said I’m hanging from the roof, but I’m on the floor here.” Travis shook his head and started counting off on his fingers. “You’re sideways, Bruce is sitting on a banister upside down, and I haven’t seen Ben or Kent yet, but I heard them so I guess they’re okay?”

Bruce and Gabbi exchanged a glance, and Bruce beat her to it. “So what about Harriet?”

Travis grimaced. “Yeah. I saw her for a minute, sort of floating like you do when you’re swimming? She wasn’t awake though.”
