A Flicker of Magic

Summary:

Far away from home and his siblings, Lyney is thrown into a whole new region and culture with nothing to guide him but the vague idea to be friendly to Natlan's heroes and their Archon. One hero in particular, however, will catch his eye.

Notes:

Heya! This fic is brand new, and really short for the time being while I get the introduction chapters out. If you're looking for something longer to read, my other fic "Liyue Lanterns and Rosmaratine Flowers" is happening at the same time as this one and focuses on Freminet/Gaming. But if that's not your thing, then feel free to skip it. I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1: Beginnings (Lyney)

Chapter Text

“Are you serious?” Lyney mutters, crossing his arms. “Holdon- Holdon- Are you sure this is a good idea?”

“Do you doubt me?”

“No- No! Of course not, Father. I’m just not sure Lynette and I should be separated. Especially cross-nations. Sending me to Natlan without her, is-”

“A necessary evil. We need her to stay here for an operation in Fontaine that needs preparing. However, my faction of the Fatui needs a representative to make an appearance due to Captiano’s passing.” Father stands from her desk, far taller than Lyney now, as she walks out from behind her desk, as if the conversation is already over. “You’re a fantastic candidate, Lyney. You’re used to performances, and appearing as a representative for The House by now, yes?”

Lyney hesitates to fight back against the idea. There’s no stopping Father once she’s made up her mind. And Father knows what she’s doing. And yet… Lyney still can’t bring himself to verbally agree, settling for a frustrated nod.

Father sighs. “You would make a fantastic Head of House one day. And Lynette and Freminet will make fantastic assistants when that day comes. But you simply must learn to accept being alone sometimes.” She says simply. “I have great faith in you. This Natlan trip is three weeks long. And you’ll have plenty of time to contact your siblings, I’m sure. So… have some faith in them, as well as yourself, and you will find it might not be so hard.” Father does her best trying to reassure Lyney one last time, but it falls flat.

Father steps out of her office, giving Lyney a moment to process all he’s just heard.

…He’s going to Natlan.

Alone.

Well… that’s one way to get that ‘change of scenery’ he asked for.

…Probably.
