Chapter Text
I looked around frantically. That’s when I found him. Starfleet uniform, young, fit but not overly tall or muscular and a bright aura about him, Perfect. He was walking with two women also in uniforms, laughing with him.
I leapt straight into his arms. His body stiffened and his companions moved to defend. I prayed that they figured out what was happening. I was shaking too much to speak. I gripped his uniform top in my fists and buried my head into his chest.
“Hey! You, where do you think your going ?” A large hand grabbed the back of my neck.
“Excuse me but who are you?” One of the women asked.
“It’s none of your business. Now, release her.” The voice growled.
I felt arms tightening around me. “I vill do no such thing.” The man spoke with confidence.
“You will hand her over or else…”
“Or else what?” A new voice broke in.
“I suggested you go on your way and leave the young lady alone. Otherwise I'm sure the station security would love to get to know you.”
“Fine! But be warned, that is no woman, but a monster.”
“Whatever you say.”
“Was it wise to let him go captain?” Someone next to him asked.
“Don’t worry, I was still planning to alert the station whether he listened or not.”
“Hum…”
I still had not looked up once since the encounter. The arms around me loosened communicating safety with this new company. My body relaxed and everything went dark.

She gradually became aware of the humming and buzzing of the room. It was the presence of a handful of people going about mundane tasks. This must be a medical facility she realized. ‘I must have been brought here after losing consciousness.’ She thought with her eyes still closed. Taking in the scroundings she felt the calm mind of one of the women from earlier. Her thoughts were warm and orderly. A true healer by nature. Then one of the others’ focus fell on her. The biometers must have alerted him to her waking.
“Welcome back to the land of the living my dear.” A heavy accent voice spoke in standard.
Her eyelids opened slowly to adjust to the overhead lights.
“There you are.” He smiled.
“You’re probably wondering where you are right now. This is the sick bay here on the Enterprise.” His voice dripped with pride. “You gave us all a fright, fainting suddenly like that.”
She stared into his eyes to read him more closely. She couldn’t quite place him but he spoke as though he had witnessed the scene. The specifics didn’t matter though, from the air of honesty about him she knew he was no threat.
“You got a name?” He asked.
She continued to stare blankly at him. Name, it had been so long since she had been asked that. What even was the correct answer to that anymore? Her birth name that she didn’t even remember or the name given to her by the fold. No, that name was dead to her now.
“Not one for chitchat I see. Well if you do decide to start taking just holler at anyone of us. You sure you don’t need anything?” He waited. “Of course not.” He rolled his eyes and waved her off.
She continued to sit in complete stillness. Her mind refusing to focus. The screams and pain were gone. She had become numb with out them.

“Jim, I don’t know what’s wrong with her. She just won’t respond. All she does is sit there staring at nothing. Frankly it’s freaking us all out.” The Doctor complained.
“Perhaps she is just meditating?” The captain turned to his first officer.
“I do not believe so.” He spoke. “The symptoms are indicative of a state of shock. Do we have any history on her prior to the incident on the station.”
“Sadly no, and without a name we aren’t going to get any either.” Bones sighed.
“I have an idea on how to access this information. Doctor, if you would allow me to…”
“Absolutely not Spock! You of all people know how dangerous a mind meld is on a person in such a state. I don’t think she would appreciate your intrusion either. I know I wouldn’t .”
“It is a good thing that she is not you then Doctor. I believe that this is the most effective method of reaching her. I may be able to help bring her out of her state of shock.”
“If you really think it will help. Bones?” Kirk intervened.
“Damn it Jim! Whatever, do your magic mind thing then.”
“As I have reminded you in the past, a mind meld is not magic but a…”
“Just shut up and get on with it already.”
The Vulcan moved to the woman and began the chant. “My mind to your mind. My thoughts to your thoughts…”
It was cold and dark in her mind. He gathered his bearings and started to walk forward. It was difficult, like walking through a thick cloud of miasma. He suppressed a shiver. This was not the mindscape he was expecting to encounter. There were no signs of life. This was extremely dangerous.
Just as he prepared to leave he heard a small whimper. He hesitated. If he did not help her now the prospect of her condition improving was practically nonexistent. It was logical to help her, but did it outweigh the risk to himself? This was no time to debate with himself. The more time wasted the higher the probability of either party not returning grew.
He continued forward until he found a small pointed ear child curled up clutching her knees.
“Tonk’phe kan. Spock wimish.” (Hello child. I am Spock.) he gently spoke gently, placing a hand on her quivering shoulder.
“Ti’amah!” (Let me go!) she screamed.
“Nam'uh hayal. Ki’sarlah nash-veh na’lof gol-tor.” (Calm down. I have come in order to help)
She slowly lifted her head. Her striking blood green eyes clouded with fear met his tranquil brow ones.
“Kashkau, hif-bi tu throks gol-tor.” (Your mind, allow me access to help.)
She hesitated before nodding. “Nafai.” (Okay) she said no louder than a whisper.
She tried to open her memories to him slowly.
Instead they poured out the moment she loosened her defenses.
Spock stumbled back out of the meld. The volatile nature of her mind was almost too much for him to handle.
“What the hell happened!” McCoy shouted. The captain physically holding him back.
“You were supposed to help her, not make it worse.”
She was now shaking as tears ran down her face.
“I must meditate now.” Spock abruptly stated, almost running out of sick bay.
“What in the world is happening?!” McCoy was baffled. “I can’t deal with him right now. Shit, I’m going to have to sedate her. Nurse?”
“I will take care of Spock. You need to take care of your patient.” Kirk patted his back. “Thanks Jim.” He gave a twisted smirk.
