Christmas Baking surprise

Summary:

reader bakes cookies and makes hot chocolate as a surprise for Joe reader is 8-10ish

Work Text:

y/n was in the process of baking sugar christmas cookies and they had water boiling for hot chocolate

y/n planned cookies and hot chocolate as a nice surprise for their dad for christmas

y/n wore an apron and chef in y/f/c that had cookie dough and cookie dough all over it from the baking. They had bowls, tubs of icing and baking trays all over the counter

“Maybe I made a bit too much of a mess” they thought to themselves.

On an empty patch of counter they started rolling out the dough and got out the cookie cutters.

“Lets start with…snow flakes” they said, mixing in the two shaped cutters, a bigger pointy one and a smaller round one.

Then they carefully placed each one onto the small baking sheet one by one.

“Lets get these in” they said pulling out the matching oven mitts to stuff them into the oven

“Ooo trees next” they said, reaching into the pile of cookie cutters and pressing the mold into the dough. And putting the mini trees onto the baking sheet sitting underneath the last one.

“It looks like a little forest,” they said.

“Hmm…lets…do…mitts then candy canes” grabbing the mold out from the others

They continued doing one small sheet for each cutting until

“Ooo i have enough leftover dough for stars!” they cheered as they fixed the fifth and final tray

“I hope he loves these” they thought to themselves as they started to tidy up the counter, whipping down the flowery counter and tossing the rolling pin, cookie cutters and dough bowl into the sink.

But while they were getting out the icing and sprinkles they suddenly remembered

“Oh shoot the timer” they said rushing over to their dads duck timer. Setting it for 10 minutes “i think thats right”

y/n turned around to finish getting the rest out

“Its almost time for the fun par- oh the kettle” they suddenly remembered

The kettle has finished boiling and the water has started to evaporate. They turned it off and looked at the clock on the stove.

It was now 3:25 and Joe was in his room wrapping up some more presents for steve josh and blue to give to them later on

“Okay im almost done” they thought, getting two mugs out for the two of them and pouring the water into the two mugs. Then they got a little bit of milk then setting the mugs on a tray off to the side for later.

y/n stud off to the side looking outside at all the snow that had recently fell

“This is so much more work than I thought it would be” they thought while huffing.

After a few minutes the timer went off. y/n grabbed the oven mitts and pressed the off button and slowly made their way getting all five of the small trays out and onto the stove to cool. They set a timer for 10 minutes and took off the oven mitts, apron and hat to run off to their room.

As they left the kitchen Joe came out

“Hey, is your surprise ready yet?” he asked

“Almost! Just stay out of the kitchen” they replied headed to their room “i just need one more detail” as they went to their room.

They walked around searching for it. “Where did I put it?” They questioned themselves y/n was looking for the green card they had made at school a few days prior in their art class. They had to make Christmas cards for family members.
The cards they made for steve josh and blue where already downstairs but the one for their dad was still in their room hidden so that “he wouldn't find it and this would all be a great surprise”

As y/n digged into their school backpack Joe yelled “sweetie the timer!”

“Just a sec” they yell back as they searched the bag

“oo its not in here” they wined they checked on top of the dress their desk and even the window seal

“Where is it?!” y/n started to panic as they started running out of spots for the card.

y/n let out a sigh and left the room. As they started to leave the room Joe came up to check on them

“Is everything ok?” he asked

“Yea i just need one more thing but i cant find it ill look for it later” they said while they rushed to the kitchen.

Down in the kitchen y/n threw back on the hat and apron and started icing the sugar cookies.

Each baking tray was lined up side by side. They got a butter knife and some piping bags and went to town.

The tree cookies were decorated with green frosting and tons of sprinkles and each one had a star on top

The snow flakes were different colours blue, white, purple and pink while they each had sprinkles.

The candy canes were white with coloured stripes, y/ns hands shocked and shifted as they squeezed out the frosting from the piping bag onto the cookies. No lines were perfectly straight but some crooked others uneven “that looks…fine..?” they question tilting their head. They pushed them onto the side to finish off with the stars and mitts.

The stars had sprinkles on them while y/n used every colour of frosting they had.

And lastly the mitts y/n let out a sigh as they finished the sheet as they squeezed what little was left in the bags.

y/n got out some tongs and a big plate putting all the frosted sugar cookies on it to put on the tray. They grabbed

“After all that hard work I'm finally…” they said while looking at the work area “almost done” they wined as they got to work on the boring part. Clean up

y/n threw out the parchment paper, empty icing tubs and piping bags. They stacked the baking trays and put them in the sink along with the butter knife and whipped down the the counter rubbing it with a cloth until it shined.

“Oh shoot! The card!” the remembered and dashed over to their room

“Oh where is it? This isn't complete until I have the card!”
They said
They wandered all over the room. They ducked to look under the bed, no card. They swinged their closet door open, no card

They dug through their school bag again and they still couldn't find the card.

y/n flopped onto their bed with a faded smile and mellowed in disappointment and a hint of sadness but in the corner of their eye they saw it. They leaped from their bed and snatched it up while rushing out of the room.

They placed the card on the plate beside the mugs and carried the tray out of the kitchen

“Its ready!” they yelled for their dad. Joe came on in

“I made us host chocolate and cookies and I even made you a card” y/n told Joe

“Oh sweetheart, I love it thank you!” he cheered going in for a hug.

As the two sat on the couch y/n cuddled up with him on his side while resting after all their hard work
