Work Text:

It's always a sad day at Toyokawa when Kurosawa is not in, but there's a new kind of worried buzz around the office when a sick day is the reason. Adachi learns about it not long after he's come to work himself, when his phone pings with texts from Kurosawa.

Kurosawa: I'm sorry, I'm feeling a bit under the weather so I won't be at the office today 😔

Kurosawa: Missing my morning Adachi fix already 🥺

Adachi frowns at his phone in concern. If Kurosawa's actually taking a break from work, he must be feeling more than a little sick.

Adachi: I hope you feel better soon! I'll come see you after work

Kurosawa: No no, I don't want to trouble you. I'll get better quickly so I can see my boyfriend soon 💪🏻

Well, that's silly. A few months of dating Kurosawa may be Adachi's only relationship experience, but he's pretty sure it's his job to help when his boyfriend is sick. Actually, Kurosawa did that for him before they were even dating. So Adachi's definitely not leaving Kurosawa to suffer alone.

He dodges overtime work as best he can and escapes before Urabe-senpai can make sad eyes at him, mumbling his goodbyes while making a run for the door. He gets some cold medicine and soup, and heads for Kurosawa's place.

Anxiety strikes when he's already at Kurosawa's door, hand raised to ring the doorbell. What if Kurosawa really would rather not see him today? Maybe he just wants some peace and quiet. Or what if he's asleep and Adachi disturbs him? It's been a while since Kurosawa last messaged him.

He chases the thoughts away with a physical shake of his head. Based on all previous experience, Kurosawa not wanting to see him at any time is pretty unlikely. And if he's asleep… Well, Adachi can first try a delicate knock to feel it out.

The knock goes unanswered, seemingly confirming that theory. Adachi chews on his bottom lip, considering his options. He could just leave the medicine and soup at Kurosawa's door and leave… but he does want to see how Kurosawa's doing. But not at the price of waking Kurosawa up, if he really is asleep.

But… with a warm, squirmy feeling in his chest, Adachi remembers that he has the key. Kurosawa gave it to him not long after they started dating, trying and failing to be oh-so-casual about it.

"Just in case," Kurosawa said, visibly vibrating. "You're always welcome here, Adachi." If Adachi had still had his magic, he probably would've been hit with an elaborate montage of them living their Sweet Life in Kurosawa's apartment.

Adachi blushed then, and equally (not-)casually accepted the key. He's been carrying it on his keyring since then… just in case.

And it looks like it'll come in handy after all. Adachi gives himself a fortifying nod and lets himself in as quietly as he can.

He whispers an "I'm here" once he's toed off his shoes, to no reply. So it looks like maybe he was right and Kurosawa is in bed. Adachi makes his way to the living room, puts the stuff he brought on the table, and starts unpacking it from the bag.

But then there's rustling from the sofa and something appears above the back of it — Kurosawa's head, his hair in disarray and eyes blinking slowly.

"Adachi…?"

Adachi cringes a bit. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. Um, hi, Kurosawa."

Kurosawa makes moves as if to get up, so Adachi rushes to his side and discovers that he's all wrapped up in a blanket. Cute.

"Hi, Adachi," Kurosawa says, looking up at him from his blanket burrito. "Did you… use the key to get in?"

There's no way to deny it even if Adachi wanted to, unless he pretends he staged a break-in. So he shifts in place and confirms it with a little nod.

Kurosawa tears up a little and his lips tremble before he gives Adachi his morning smile, not awake enough yet to be blinding, but all the sweeter for it. So Adachi automatically smiles back and leans in for a kiss hello.

Kurosawa's smile grows, but then falters as he seems to remember his state. "Oh no, I hope I won't give you my germs."

"Don't worry about it," Adachi says. "How are you feeling?"

For a few moments Kurosawa's face reflects a battle going on inside. He's probably torn between pretending everything's fine, and being more honest. Thankfully the latter option wins.

He slumps against the backrest. "Mostly I'm just so tired." And no wonder; Kurosawa's been working extra hard for the last few weeks to secure a major deal. Of course his body gave out and succumbed to a cold the moment he relaxed a bit.

Kurosawa heaves a sigh with the most dejected expression. "You shouldn't have to see me like this."

He looks pretty much like he always does after waking up, so Adachi doesn't see the problem. But, okay, maybe Kurosawa's a bit flushed, and the hair clinging to his temples looks damp, like he's been sweating. Adachi frowns worriedly and leans in again, brushing Kurosawa's fringe back before he presses their foreheads together.

When he pulls back, Kurosawa's blush looks much darker. Oh, how the tables have turned, Adachi thinks fondly, briefly distracted from his worry by this unexpected cute side of his boyfriend.

"You do feel a little warm. I brought you some medicine, let me get it…" Adachi ignores Kurosawa's protesting noises as he fetches the meds and a glass of water.

"Have you eaten?" he asks after making sure Kurosawa's taken them. Then he winces a little, because he probably should've asked that first.

Kurosawa considers the question, which seems like a bad sign. And then, yep, he sheepishly says, "I might've slept through lunch."

Adachi clicks his tongue in worried disapproval, but then it gets worse. Kurosawa abruptly sits up (as much as his blanket prison allows), looking horrified.

"Oh no, you must be hungry, Adachi. Let me make dinner —"

"Kurosawa, no." Adachi puts his hand on Kurosawa's chest to stop him from trying to get up. He huffs a little laugh at his boyfriend's ridiculousness. "Do I need to explain how being sick works? I'm here to take care of you."

Kurosawa's pouty chastised face is so precious that Adachi has to press a little kiss to his cheek. He blushes afterwards, a little embarrassed at being so forward. But at least that helps to lift Kurosawa's mood, judging by his enamoured face.

"I brought soup," Adachi says before they get derailed from the topic of food. "If you, um, want it…?"

Kurosawa visibly wrestles with himself for a moment, but finally settles on, "Soup sounds lovely. Thank you, Adachi."

Adachi gives him another little kiss, figuring he should reinforce the good behavior. "Wait here while I heat it up."

Apparently Kurosawa dozes off in the meantime, because when Adachi comes back with the soup, he needs to blink himself awake. Why is his sleepy face so cute? It's making Adachi feel guilty for thinking these things while Kurosawa's not feeling well. Though he remembers Kurosawa also thinking about… stuff… when Adachi was sick, so maybe that's just what happens when you're, um. In love.

Anyway, Kurosawa's fight to free his arm from the blanket is not going very well. Adachi smiles fondly and asks, "Do you want me to feed you?"

That seems to wake Kurosawa right up. His eyes grow larger and his flush deepens, and then he gets this look about him that Adachi's learned to associate with sex stuff. Which naturally makes Adachi blush too.

Trust Kurosawa's ability to get horny about anything, even a completely innocent offer. And soup is not even a sexy food! But when Kurosawa says, "Yes?" in a low voice, Adachi worries he might never look at soup the same way.

Still, he does want Kurosawa to eat. And, well, he's not immune to Kurosawa's sexy mode. So he gathers himself, spoons some soup up and offers it to Kurosawa. He even maintains eye contact while Kurosawa wraps his lips around the spoon and then swallows the soup — at least for the first two mouthfuls. Then Adachi needs to lower his gaze. Watching Kurosawa's mouth still doesn't feel completely safe, but it's at least a little better for Adachi's sanity.

Thankfully Kurosawa doesn't try to start something more in his state, or Adachi would have to put his foot down. Instead, once the soup's gone, Kurosawa leans heavily against the backrest, probably hit with the sleepiness again. "Thank you, darling," he murmurs, his eyes sliding closed.

Adachi blows out a breath and shakes off the horny jitters. There will be time for that once Kurosawa's back to full health. He settles next to Kurosawa and tugs him close, so Kurosawa can lean on his shoulder.

"Are you sure you don't need anything, Adachi?" Kurosawa asks, fighting sleep to try being silly again.

Adachi shakes his head and clicks the TV on, turning the volume down. "I'm good. Want to watch some TV?"

"Okay." Kurosawa slumps harder onto Adachi with a despondent sigh. "Sorry I'm gross and useless."

"You're not." Adachi pats Kurosawa's bundle of blankets. And then, an idea strikes. "Actually, you could do something for me."

The way Kurosawa perks up at a glimpse of a task is equal parts adorable and sad. "Of course, Adachi."

Adachi shuffles a bit down the sofa and pats his lap. "Lie down with your head here." He helps Kurosawa lower himself gently. "Now close your eyes."

"Okay." Kurosawa complies.

"And now rest."

Kurosawa immediately squints his eyes open with a betrayed pout. "That's it?"

Adachi bites his lips to hold back a laugh. "This is very important to me," he says seriously. "You can also complain about feeling bad, for bonus points."

Kurosawa is quiet for a moment, but he closes his eyes again. And then, carefully, "My head does hurt a bit."

"Poor Kurosawa," Adachi murmurs. He combs his fingers gently through Kurosawa's hair.

"Nooo, my hair is all sweaty," Kurosawa protests, but he pushes into the touch rather than away.

"It's not." It is a little, but it's nothing Adachi can't handle. He runs his fingers through Kurosawa's hair properly to prove his point.

He might've worried about not being much help to Kurosawa, but it seems like Adachi's more competent at this than Kurosawa is at being a patient. Adachi helped take care of his niece when she came down with a cold a while ago, and he doesn't remember needing to wrangle her into accepting loving care. But Kurosawa wouldn't appreciate the implication that he's losing to a child, so Adachi keeps that to himself. At least there's a lot less snot this time, so they can call it a draw.

Maybe it's the thought of his niece that prompts it, but Adachi finds himself humming, and then singing quietly under his breath. It must be a song from a program for kids, and he only vaguely remembers the words, but it was something about getting better when you have a cold, so it seems fitting.

Kurosawa certainly doesn't seem to mind, because when Adachi glances down, Kurosawa's looking up at him with stars in his eyes. Adachi trails off and clears his throat, embarrassed at being watched so intently. "See, you're doing well at being sick."

Kurosawa chuckles quietly, but he looks a little pleased at the praise. "My angel," he mumbles. "Don't let me give you my cold."

"Well, if you do, you'll just have to nurse me to health."

"Of course." Kurosawa turns his face to nuzzle against Adachi's stomach. "I'll take the best care of my Adachi."

"I know." Adachi smiles, brushes Kurosawa's fringe up, and leans down to place a kiss on his forehead.

If Kurosawa's temperature rises later, Adachi's going to fetch a cold towel. But for now he just keeps Kurosawa resting on his lap, and lets the soothing motions of petting Kurosawa's hair lull them both to sleep.

Notes:

(I imagined Adachi singing the first song from this vid.)
