Chapter Text
You can't breathe.
Crushed into the earth by the heavy tree bark grown from your arm, you struggle to draw air into your lungs. Rooted to the soil, the ants crawl over you and pick away at your skin as you inhale nothing but the dirt that embraces your demise.
And still, even in your final moments, you can't stop thinking about Scythe.
You love her. She loves you. So why did you have to leave her so soon? Why did this cruel fate of yours not allow you to see her one last time?
Your mind wanders to yesterday's memories. She was there with you as you looked at your slowly growing, expanding, branching arm in horror.
"Vine!" Her voice cut through your head as you hyperventilated. "You'll be fine, ya hear me? It'll be alright, everything will be alright, you'll be alright..."
How could you believe her when her voice wavered like she didn't believe herself?
You want to come back to the present moment, to struggle, to save yourself and see everyone you love again and live happily ever after, but you can barely feel anything. The ants feel as light as the wind's breeze, the tree sprouting from your arm is a crushing weight on your head and the rest of your body that hurts no longer, the screeching blaring ringing in your ears is somehow muffled, and your vision is getting squashed into colors colors and less colors.
Colors that fade into grey.
Colors that fade into black.
Colors that fade into darkness.
Colors that fade into nothing.
Colors that fade.
Feelings that fade.
Colors. Feelings. Nothing.

Love?
You
can feel?
Warm water encapsulates you and rests on your skin with stillness. Yet, despite the seeming tranquility, it feels so overwhelming. It's like every minuscule current is trying to push its way into your skin, like the blue of the water is trying to burn itself into your eyes, like the rushing of the waves is trying to etch its sound into your mind.
The sensations on your skin aren't the affectionate caresses you're familiar with. The blue of the vast sea isn't the teal you recall. The rushing waves aren't the voice of who you love.
You can't help but sob, letting your tears merge with the water surrounding you as you hug your tail to your chest and curl into a ball, drifting lost and helpless underwater. You're not suffocating, but the new world, its intense sensations, and the bright, glowing circle that just appeared above your head make you feel like it.
Where are you? Where is everyone?
Where is she?
