"Congratulations!"
The crowd cheered, white flowers thrown around in the air as the wind caught and blew them away. As if mother nature were paid to do a trick to impress everyone. The noise of the people were ringing in everyone's ears, yet they continued to do so. A celebration so great that people have started crying.
....
Tsukasa wished he never met Rui at all.
Not when He was the one whose supposed to be up there. Supposed to be the one holding Rui's hand, wipe away his tears as he says his vows to him. Funny how a boy could really change your life so casually, without purpose.
Of course, Tsukasa was grateful for him. The late night calls, the laughs they share together, the teasing. They were close, he thought he had a chance— he really did. Maybe it was wishful thinking on his part, maybe it was his plan all along.
Leave a small napkin for Rui at his house, make him lunch whenever he forgets or is unable to bring one for himself, intentionally flirt yet act as if he was able to keep to himself, act like his presence doesn't fuel him and give Rui the space he wants— smile while the sun shines down on him in a certain way. Surely, he thinks, this would be enough to blind him.
Blind him enough to see and realize that he Does love him.
"I'm sorry, Tsukasa..." Rui's voice was small back then. Or maybe it was because Tsukasa had his phone on the low volume. "But you know I'm not gay, right?"
He really wanted to believe that he could reach the stars.
But, he knows even reaching for the clouds with his own two feet would be impossible.
If he knew this would happen, he would have just moved on. Quickly before the feeling spreads, yet he enjoyed his presence too much to leave. They got closer, and closer. Somehow, the rejection didn't effect their relationship — even if it effected Tsukasa like a disease.
His heart beats fast, a giggle would bubble out of his mouth, his cheeks would turn into the softest of reds. He knows he doesn't have a chance. But he wanted to keep dreaming, keep reaching for Him. Because maybe if he stays for a while longer, he'll be able to realize that the person who is Destined to be with him was there all along.
Rui's presence in Tsukasa's life felt predetermined, as if whatever it is that wrote fate, intentionally had Rui in mind while writing Tsukasa's. It feels right, euphoric to be with him. He wishes he was the one that could kiss him, show him that love isn't so bad, accompany him when everyone of your friends have a date.
Maybe... Tsukasa's not good enough.
Not good enough to be loved by him, maybe he was just disgusted with the idea of being with a stupid, loud and annoying guy like him.
God, he is pissed. He wishes he never met the guy, yet he knew that this was destiny. The universe knew of them and aimed for a good story, so why couldn't Rui love him and be ready for it?
Because he's not obligated to... It's his own life. Tsukasa doesn't control it.
Tsukasa finally blinked when he saw Rui cradle the bride's cheek, his eyes shine and glimmer with tears and sunlight. The star bit the inside of his mouth, swallowing down the piece of layered meat. That should be Him. He should've been the one in white as well.
If wishes exist and he had the chance to choose again, he'd be someone Rui likes in their next life. He just wishes his consciousness is brought over to that life as well.
But that's all he could do now. Wish on a dying, shooting star.
Everyone in the venue were given a glass of Champaign, and Rui spoke while he lifted the glass alongside his new bride.
"To a happy life."
Tsukasa huffed a small smile that he could muster up, the tears that would've fallen has dried up long ago.
He lifted his glass with everybody.
To a happy fuckin' life, indeed.
