“Hey, sunarin, ya want some onigiri? I made ‘em yesterday, experimenting with a new recipe,” Osamu asks Suna, leaning over his shoulder to look at what the other boy is playing.
“Nah, it’s alright, I’m not that hungry, but thanks for offering, ‘samu,” Suna says, the edges of his lips quirking up as he looks at Osamu standing there with the food.
“If ya change yer mind later, ya can always come an’ get one from me, I’ll be over at ma seat.”
“Mm sure, will do.”
Suna puts his head down, resting it on his arm as he watches Osamu happily chatting with their other classmates.
‘He looks so cute when he’s smiling,’ Suna thinks, feeling himself smiling watching Osamu. ‘His smile is really infectious.”
Just then, he sees Osamu whispering something to one of their classmates before offering an onigiri to her, who takes it with a huge grin.
‘What is he doing? He doesn’t normally offer food to people that aren’t me or Atsumu.”
Slowly, Suna gets up from his seat, footsteps light as he walks over to Osamu, who is still talking to the girl.
“Samu, can I have one too?” Suna asks, draping himself over Osamu like he’s Osamu’s personal human blanket or something.
“Here ya go, rin,” Osamu replies, picking up one from the box and gently placing it into Suna’s awaiting palm.
“Thanks,” he says, glaring at the girl who Osamu had offered an onigiri to.
The poor girl flees the moment she makes eye contact with Suna, turning sharply on her heel and running out of the classroom.
“Hey, rin, were ya jealous or something?” Osamu jokes, bringing his hand up to pet Suna on the head.
“No,” Suna says with a pout that very obviously yells ‘OF COURSE’.
“Rin, ya don’t have to worry. Yer always be number two in my heart. After.”
“After Atsumu and your ma, yes, I know.”
“But dontcha ever tell ‘im that, or he’s gonna get a big head.”
“Yeah,” Suna snorts, feeling himself lightening up.
“Come on rin, let’s eat.”
“Mm.”

School for the day had ended, but Osamu was nowhere to be seen.
Suna and Atsumu were standing by Osamu’s last period classroom, Suna frowning when he didn’t see the boy inside.
“Hey, Atsumu, have you seen where samu is? Our last periods are split up, but we were supposed to do something together after school,” Suna asks Atsumu, tapping him on the forehead to make sure Atsumu was listening.
“Ya owe me if I tell ya, deal?”
“Fine.”
“I think he was helping that girl from class 1-1 carry some books over at the science labs,” Atsumu says, looking over at one of the school blocks.
“The girl from gymnastics with brown hair and those funky glasses?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m gonna go find him now. See you tomorrow,” Suna calls out, already walking off in the direction of the science blocks.
He positions himself behind a pillar, watching carefully as Osamu and the girl each carry a stack of books down the stairs, heading towards the last lab where light is still on. They disappear inside for a short while, but Suna can see and hear it clearly when they come out.
“Osamu-san, thank you for your help today! Without it, I would have had to make at least two more trips up and down the stairs. Thank you so much!” the girl says, bowing repeatedly to Osamu before she turned and ran away.
That’s when Osamu notices Suna, standing behind the pillar with his eyes narrowed.
“Hey, rin, sorry for making ya wait. I was just helping this girl from another class carry some books over to the lab, cuz ya know how Nishida-sensei is, and I kind of felt bad for her,” Osamu explains, waving his hands around to emphasize his point.
“Hmph. You could’ve at least told me, samu,” Suna grumbles, his arms crossed. “Do I need to ask for your help carrying books next time before I can get your attention?”
“I’m sorry rin, it just slipped my mind today. How about, I’ll treat ya to ramen and buy ya some chuupet later?”
“You promise?” Suna asks, raising his eyebrow.
“Yes rin, I promise. Let’s go now and we can probably get to the ramen shop before the crowd starts to come in,” Osamu tells Suna, slinging an arm over his shoulder.

Suna has been trying very hard to concentrate on the problem for the last half hour, but that goddamn stupid waitress cannot stop flirting with Osamu.
First, when taking their order, she kept on glancing at Osamu and leaned as far forward as she could, making sure she was right in Osamu's face, and pretty much ignored him the entire time, to the point where Osamu just ordered for him. Then as she was leaving to give their order to the kitchen, she looked at him like a bug that needed to be squashed.
Secondly, when pouring their water, she only poured Osamu's cup while talking sweetly to him and was about to walk off until Osamu got her to fill his one as well. (She did it like it was the most painful thing ever.)
Thirdly, she scribbled her number onto the slip of paper with their order on it, but Suna grabbed it and told Osamu he'd handle it before he could notice the girl's number. (He's too nice and would probably text her an apology and she'd guilt trip him.)
Fourth, every single ducking time he was trying to have a civilized conversation with Osamu, she'd butt in out of nowhere and ask him the most nonsensical shit in existence.
And this was the straw that broke the camel’s back (or Suna's back whatever).
She directly leaned towards him, and smiling as prettily as she could, asked, “Would you like to go out with me?”
Before Osamu could even say anything, he narrowed his eyes at the girl and spat, “Can you leave him alone? He clearly doesn't want to go on a date with you, so stop bothering him before I report you for harassment.”
“Heh. And who are you to say that? His boyfriend?” she laughs, looking down at him.
“No, but it's not like it matters. Do you really think he'd go out with someone after seeing your true nature? You could've at least used your last remaining braincell and realize that even if you have a pretty face, your shitty attitude is driving everyone away.”
It all comes tumbling out before Suna realizes what he's saying, and the girl, after hearing his words, glares sharply and turns on her heel to run into the kitchen.
“Thankya, Rin. I didn't know how to reject her without sounding like a complete asshole,” Osamu says, cutely scratching his cheek as he talks. “I'll cover our meal and drinks today as repayment.”
“Thanks. Next time just call me when you need to reject someone,” Suna snorts, bringing his attention back to the problem.
“Maybe I will. Who knows? Come one, let's continue studying.”
And so, the rest of the study session continues in peace.

‘Osamu is just tutoring someone, there's nothing between them, don’t be jealous Rin, it doesn't matter that you've never seen her around before,’ Suna thinks to himself, trying to calm himself down by practicing deep breathing as he watches Osamu lean closer to the girl, using his pencil to point at the different parts of the question, explaining as each part in detail.
He’s been sitting there and watching Osamu tutor the girl for the last half an hour, though it feels more like torture than waiting for Osamu to be done so he could ask Osamu if he wanted to go out together that day.
“Ugh. How much longer are they gonna take…” Suna groans, leaning back in his chair with his hand across his face.
He opens a random app on his phone and starts scrolling aimlessly, hoping to pass the time until Osamu's done as quickly as possible.
When he next looks up, Osamu and the girl seem to be ending their session, the both of them stuffing their books and stationery back into their bags already.
He gets up, about to walk over, and suddenly freezes when he sees Osamu chuckle and pat the girl’s head.
“What. The. Fuck,” Suna hisses, one hand clenching tightly around his phone, the other balling into a fist.
Quickly, Suna walks over and gives Osamu a back hug, not caring that people are staring.
“Hi, it's nice to meet you, my name is Suna Rintarou, one of Osamu's friends,” Suna says to the girl with a tight lipped smile.
“Oh, you're that Suna-san that Osamu was telling me about! It's nice to meet you, I'll be taking my leave now!” she replies, bowing once to be polite before she turns around and walks out.
“What, are you giving anybody free tuition now? Must I sign up for a class with you before I can spend time with you?” Suna grumbles, hugging Osamu even more tightly.
“She's my ma's close friend's only child, and I was helping to tutor her cuz ma asked me to.”
“Hm. Can we go eat ice cream now,” Suna huffs, poking Osamu in the side with his finger(s).
“Yer ridiculous, Rin. Let's go,” Osamu says, grabbing Suna’s hands and dragging him along to the exit.
And if Osamu makes sure to sit extra close to Suna later on, well, that's no one's business but their own.
+1
Osamu and Atsumu were together at a small ramen restaurant where their ma was friends with the owner, eating together (read: forced by their ma to cooperate while she did some stuff), and they had just sat down and finished ordering when suddenly, Atsumu poked Osamu and whispered, “Hey, isn't that Rin?”
Osamu looks up from his notes to where Atsumu is pointing, only to see Suna with a boy their age, Suna laughing at something the boy had said.
‘Rin doesn't ever laugh like that except when he's with me. Who on earth is that,” Osamu this, his face growing darker and darker with every passing second.
“Damn samu, I've never seen ya like this before. Does Rin talking to another person make you that jealous?” Atsumu whistles, smirking at Osamu as if he knows something.
“What are ya talkin’ about? It's not like we're dating or anything…”
“Yer not datin’ Rin? Ya sure? Ya reallyyyy sure? Like, yer the only person Rin listens to ever, and he only ever laughs at yer jokes, as lame as they are…” Atsumu says, quirking up and eyebrow as if to say, ‘prove me wrong.’
“No, we aren't, I promise you, Atsumu,” Osamu replies, suddenly defensive as if he's in denial. (Yes he is but nvm)
Atsumu sighs, smacking his head down on the table. ‘These dumb bitches can't just confess already?
“Hey. Samu. Chill out, yer Rin’s best friend. He'd tell ya if he got a boyfriend or something.”
“Whatever.”
“Samu, please be reasonable. Why am I being the sane one here? Yer supposed ta be the one keepin’ me in check, not the other way ‘round.”
When Osamu's face continues to remain as dark as before, Atsumu wants to scream in frustration. (Cuz he's not used to being the sane one)
“ Ya know what? How ‘bout, we invite Rin and his friend over to sit with us, if yer that jealous? Our ramen hasn't arrived yet, anyway,” Atsumu suggests, using it as his last ditch attempt.
“Fine.”
“Hey Rin!” Atsumu calls out, waving his hands as aggressively as possible to attract Suna's attention.
Suna and the boy look over, and Suna's face is confused for a second before he registers that it's Atsumu and he puts on a deadpan face.
“What, missed me so much you had to stalk me?” Suna drawls, a smirk slowly forming.
“As if anyone would stalk yer ass,” Atsumu retorts, jabbing his finger in Suna's direction.
The boy next to him chuckles before saying, “I assume you're one of the Miya twins? Suna's told me a lot about you.”
“Ah yeah, I am. Name's Atsumu Miya, nice ta meet ya. What's yer name?” Atsumu politely replies (it's for Osamu's lovesick ass).
“Nishimura Riki, nice to meet you,” the boy grins, offering his hand out to Atsumu for him to shake.
Atsumu quickly shakes his hand, before ushering both of them to sit down.
Suna slides in next to Osamu, while Nishimura sits down next to Atsumu.
Suna glances at Osamu and doesn't say anything, but he squeezes Osamu's hand under the table, making him feel a little lighter.
“So, Nishimura-san, how'd you know sunarin over here?” Atsumu asks, leaning forward as if eager to hear his answer. (Osamu's ears perk up too)
“Well, for one, he's my cousin.”
‘Wait. Cousin?’
The moment Osamu hears this, he feels like slapping himself in the face. Suna had mentioned he had a cousin coming to Hyogo for a short while that he was showing around a few days ago. It doesn't help that he can see Atsumu trying very hard not to laugh.
“You must be Osamu then? Nice to meet you.”
“Huh?”
With that sentence, Osamu's train of thought is broken.
“Oh yep, that's me. Nice to meet you,” Osamu says, putting on a smile as he turns to Nishimura.
Just like that, the tension Osamu is feeling completely dissipates, and the four boys start laughing together, chaotically eating their ramen and being teenage boys in general.
By the end of the day, the Miya twins had shown Nishimura all around the city, and they'd even exchanged contacts. He was saved in Osamu's cell phone under the nickname Ni-ki.
(“Please call me Ni-ki,everyone does.”)
Next school day ————————————————————
“Osamu, were you seriously jealous of my cousin?”
“... No”
“Heh.”
and it takes them another year to finally come out of the damn closet and get together.
