Work Text:
Boyfriend opens the fridge and grabs a box. He puts the box on a table and opens it. Inside is a special dessert. Pulling it out of the box, he carefully places it on the table, then searches in for something in his pocket. Eventually, he brings out a lighter, alongside some birthday candles and places it next to the item. Putting the candles on the top, he then carefully lights the candles. It takes a few attempts, but after some time the fire works properly, allowing BF to put the lighter away. Once ready, Boyfriend stares at the lone cake and watches the small flame.
With a deep breath, he readies himself. Grabbing the cake, Boyfriend moves to the living room. In there, he sees the sight of Pico and Girlfriend, waiting. "Hey, sorry if I took too long! But I finally got the cake!" With a smile, he places the cake down in the center, gathering alongside the two.
"You know, one of us could've grabbed it for you, right?" Pico decides to point that out, continuing to elaborate, "It is your birthday, so it should be us doing most of the work."
He shakes his head at the though, brushing the suggestion off. "Nah, I was the closest anyway." Boyfriend looks at the dessert once more, his mind deep in thought. He thinks back to a few years prior, imagining the position he was in before. Casting that thought aside, he turns back to two who are here. "Besides, you two aren't the ones with a lighter in their pockets now, are you?"
In response, Girlfriend snaps her fingers, causing a flame to quickly produce. "Uh huh?" Meanwhile, Pico simply pulls out his gun and smirks.
"It ain't a light but it sure as hell will make a fire." BF carefully pushes his gun down, giving him a look. "What? It's technically correct!"
Trying to get this celebration back on track, Boyfriend points motions back at the cake. "Anyway! I think it's time we get to the point! Let's all get together and sing happy birthday to me! I'll countdown!" Doing as he said, BF slowly counts down from three, before the group starts singing happy birthday.
Mentally, both Pico and BF consider bringing out their mics for some strange reason, but that thought quickly is brushed away as they sing without it. "Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Boyfriend,"
"Happy birthday to you!" Both Pico and Girlfriend sing the last part on their own, with BF letting them sing the final words. Finishing the song, the trio cheer and applaud. Once Boyfriend thinks of a wish, he blows the candles, letting the fire immediately fade away.
"Well, I guess that's that. How old are you now, Bee?" GF asks, despite probably already knowing.
Boyfriend somehow takes a minute to think about it, before shrugging. "I… don't know? I mean, I'm probably old, but not like, really, really old."
Scoffing, Pico offhandedly comments, "Yeah, you sure you aren't just four years old or something?"
"Hey!" Boyfriend snaps to Pico, and lightly punches him in the shoulder. The two then bicker for a bit, letting Girlfriend take a moment to slice the cake into even pieces.
The two boys still are goofing around by the time she finishes slicing, so she decides to get up and grab some of the presents hidden elsewhere. "Alright, you two! It's time for Boyfriend to open his presents!" Turning to her voice, they see the pile of presents stacked on top of each other.
"Oh wow."
"Woah! GF, where'd you get all of this!?" BF dashes toward her, surprised.
She giggles, "You know my father! He spoils me, but I might've lied as to who it was for!" Placing the gifts down on the floor, Girlfriend dusts her hands off and sits back at the table. "Of course, you don't have to open all of it now if you want. For now, open this one, then we can enjoy the cake!" Handing over one of the simpler gifts, Boyfriend takes it and quickly rips the gift open.
Gasping at what's inside, Boyfriend throws the paper wrapping away and grabs the item inside. In his haste, the wrapping paper lands directly onto Pico's face. "I love it! I'll cherish this forever!" Pico throws the paper down onto the floor, clearing his vision. However, the moment he does that, whatever BF had unboxed seemed to have already been pocketed.
Confused, Pico looks around, but finds nothing. "What the hell?" Turning back to the two, they immediately go to grabbing slices of cake. "Ah, whatever." Deciding to not worry about what just happened, he follows suit. It's better to just enjoy the moment, he decides.
"Thank you, Pico, Girlfriend." Out of nowhere, Boyfriend blurts those words out, catching their attention. "You two… are the reason I am who I am, so, thank you." With a genuine smile, Boyfriend chuckles.
Putting her plate down, Girlfriend wraps her body around BF's in a hug, "Aw, you're so sweet!" She then turns to Pico, giving him a soft smile.
Sighing, Pico puts his plate down as well. "Alright, just for you, ya softie." Joining in on the hug, Pico wraps his own arms around the two as well. As he hugs, for a second, Pico thinks he sees Boyfriend crying, but that thought is brushed away once he starts laughing.
"Thanks, again." He pulls away from the hug and wipes a tear from his eye. "I, um… yeah. Thanks. I don't know what else to say." Sheepishly rubbing his neck, Boyfriend looks down, blushing.
Grabbing his plate, Girlfriend hands it over to him. "There's nothing more you need to say, BF. For now, we should enjoy a slice, okay?"
Nodding, Boyfriend grabs the plate. "Yeah, that works." With that, the three celebrates Boyfriend's special day.
All together.
