Work Text:
This was going to be the first Christmas that Jun and Dylan would spend with their daughter, Mia, a little girl of only five years old, whom they had adopted at the beginning of the year.
Today would be the first Christmas they would spend as a family. In previous years, since it was just Jun and Dylan, they usually spent it with the rest of the family, besides Po and Gam of course. But this time they decided it would just be the three of them, or rather four, if you counted the tricolor kitten they had adored for about two years, named Cissa.
Dylan had been thinking for days about how he would decorate the house with Christmas ornaments, and when he realized it, he and Jun were scattering fairy lights, Santa Claus figurines, and reindeer all over the house. The tree had obviously been up since the beginning of the month, where the three of them put together a relatively large tree, with Mia placing the star on top.
Today was the 24th, and they began preparations for Christmas dinner. Jun was in charge of making the turkey, pot pie, mayonnaise, rice, and the rest. While Dylan and Mia made a dessert, which would be ice cream (store-bought) and also a tray of grape candies.
Jun basically spent the whole day in the kitchen while the other two asked every five minutes if "Dad needed help," always receiving a "no, my loves, everything is fine" every time.
It was almost 8 PM when Mia went to take a shower, and Dylan took the opportunity to set the table, placing the plates and glasses and decorating with personalized Christmas napkins. The older man felt a hug from behind, obviously from his husband.
"I'm so happy this is really happening," Jun said, resting his head on the other's shoulder.
"Yes..." Dylan replied, "I'm a little nervous, will she like the present?" he continued, turning to face his husband.
"I'm almost certain she will... speaking of presents, I want to know what you bought for me, my love," the younger man said with a soft smile on his lips.
"Hmm... you'll have to wait until midnight to see," Dylan replied, lightly pinching the other's nose, when a small voice interrupted.
"DAD, COME HERE!" they heard the little girl shout from her room. The two laughed and went together.
"What do you think of my outfit?" she asked in her sweet voice. She was wearing a red jumpsuit with a white shirt, red slippers, and a Christmas hat over her curly brown hair.
"You look beautiful, my princess," Jun was the first to speak, pulling her into a hug, and Dylan joined them.
"You look very pretty, my love," and as if she knew, Cissa appeared in the room and rubbed against the three of them until Dylan picked her up. The other two went to take a shower and get ready before eating.
It was around 10 PM now, and they sat down to eat, with Dylan preparing his plate and Mia's.
"Wow, this is delicious, love. When we retire from being idols, you can be a professional chef," Dylan praised, smiling at the younger man.
"That's right, papa dyl is right, dad Jun is very good in the kitchen, it's delicious," she added, then took a bite of turkey.
They ate while chatting and laughing together, until they started eating dessert, and obviously Jun didn't stop praising the two greatest loves of his life. When they finished, they took the plates to the sink and heard the little girl say:
"Now it's time to open the presents, right?" Mia said with her puppy-dog eyes. They had planned to wait until midnight, but there were still about 40 minutes left, and they didn't want to keep the little girl waiting, so they just looked at each other and nodded.
"Yes, let's go, my love," Jun said, taking her right hand, and Dylan did the same with her left. The three of them went together and sat around the tree, and the tricolor kitten couldn't help but appear. She came and stood beside them, observing the scene.
They settled in, and Jun and Dylan took the present, which was wrapped in a package full of reindeer. The little girl took it and carefully began to open it, seeing that inside was a Lego set, but not just any Lego set, a limited edition from her favorite movie, Frozen. The movie had been released a few years ago, but she was obsessed and rewatched it whenever she could; the idea of having powers like Elsa fascinated her. When she realized what it was, her mouth opened in a huge "O" and she jumped at her parents.
"Oh my god, this is the best present I could ever receive! Thank you so much, Dad! I love you!" she said, hugging them with surprising strength for a child.
"I'm so glad you liked it, sweetheart. Seeing you happy is the best thing."
Jun said
"But... this isn't the only gift," Dylan continued, his face slightly confused. He handed her a smaller package, which she quickly opened, revealing an iPad, something she had always asked them for but was always denied because she was "too young."
"OH MY GOD," she exclaimed, staring incredulously at her hands.
"But we have some rules, okay? You can't use it for more than two hours a day, and you can only use it under our supervision, okay?" the brown-haired man commented.
"Okay, papa, thank you so much," she said, hugging them again.
"Now open the gifts you bought for each other," she continued excitedly.
They both took a package and handed it to each other.
"You can open yours first," Jun said, looking sweetly at his beloved.
The other began to unwrap it and saw a sketchbook and some graphite and colored pencils.
"i just saw some of your drawings in your composition notebook, I thought you should invest in that, you have talent" Jun said, and Dylan immediately jumped on him, hugging him and kissing his cheek.
"Thank you so much, my love, I loved it" he thanked with a smile in his eyes. And Jun went to open his present, and when he saw it was a cassette tape, he looked a little confused.
"You should listen to it" Dylan said, and Jun immediately turned it on and a soft melody began to play.
It wasn't something very professional, made in a studio, full of instruments; it was just Dylan's voice along with a guitar.
"even if the sky changes
im not gonna change
even if tomorrow changes
our love remains until the end of time
you make the journey along the way more beautiful
im lucky to have you on this road with me
no matter how far i have to go
a hundred ou thousand miles away
the horizon i aim for could be reach someday"
When the music ended, Jun started to cry and pulled Dylan into a tight hug, until they heard a sniffle and separated, seeing that Mia was holding back tears.
"Oh my love, what's wrong?" Dylan broke the silence,
picking her up and sitting her on his lap.
"The music is so beautiful, I'm happy that my daddies love each other," she said while trying not to cry.
"Oh my baby" Jun said, now going to hug them both. They stayed like that for a few minutes, until Mia started to yawn and they decided it was time for bed.
The girl asked shyly if she could sleep with them, and they obviously answered yes with a smile on their faces. They settled into bed, with Jun on the left, Mia in the middle, and Dylan on the right with Cissa on top of them.
"This was the best Christmas of my life, thank you, Dad, I love you" the little girl said, receiving two kisses on the head in response.
"We love you too," Jun replied. And so they fell asleep after spending the best Christmas of their lives together.
The end :)
