“C’mon, you damn tree. What’s taking so long?”
Teddy Jin was currently posted outside a certain singer-delinquent’s home. They’d made arrangements to meet up today and ‘hang out’ AKA go on a date. After working together plus the whole Union situation, the two teen boys had naturally gotten closer. It started off as friendly banter which soon turned to flirtatious teasing on Gerard’s part. Teddy wasn’t obtuse and he, himself, had played into the flirting. Before long, they’d spend hours on the phone chatting about everything and nothing.
Finally, the front door opened and Gerard stepped out. Both males were dressed nicely for the occasion and the two seemed to stare at one another for a couple seconds before Teddy coughed. Gerard grinned and teased the other.
“Dressed up for little, ole me?”
“Right back at you and you are not little.”
“How do you know that? You haven’t been peeking in the changing room have you?”
“Huh!? Shut up, you pervert!”
The two took the bus to a nearby park where an indie music showcase was happening. Teddy knew Gerard’s interest was music and he liked a good jam himself. The showcase was part of a larger arts festival going on where people were selling artwork, knicknacks, and everything else one could possibly argue as art.
The day itself was uneventful in a good way. The two had listened to the bands Gerard was curious about and meandered about the stalls for a couple hours. Most items were terribly overpriced and Teddy wasn’t about to spend his hard-earned cash on cheap trinkets someone made in their living room. Some stuff was nicely made but did it warrant such an outrageous price.
Gerard had gotten in line for two bowls of tteokbokki; while waiting for his friend, Teddy had stopped by a nearby stall. They were selling handmade, guitar pics. 17,000 won for one of those things!? Teddy almost left but his eye caught sight of a forest green pick and for an additional 3,000 won the stall owner would do a small engraving. The blond sighed and pulled out his wallet - what kind of date would this be if he didn’t get Gerard at least one small thing.
When Teddy finished at the stall, Gerard was just returning with their food. The taller of two had said it was his treat for Teddy accompanying him today. The two boys found a nice bench overlooking the park lake. By the time the two were done eating and chatting, the sun was starting to set. Teddy pulled out the guitar pic with the engraved cat face.
“Got this for you.”
Gerard looked stunned before taking the pic and smiling.
“Thanks for that, Teddy.”
“Yeah, just don’t lose it.”
The taller of the two laughed and placed it in his shirt’s breast pocket.
“I should serenade you next time I have my guitar on me.”
“OK, that’s really not necessary!”
