Chapter Text

The world was very unfair.

Being a witch meant being burned, being tortured with fire until your death.

Being a zombie meant being a slave, making you forgot the reason that made you capapble of staying with the living in first place.

Being a ghost meant years of service for the person who caused you to have unfinished business, working for them all their life.

Being a siren meant being kidnapped, used for morbid sexual fetishes until you became sea foam.

For all this races, hope was lost a long time ago.

Or at least, that was what four people thought before a light showed in their lifes.

A light with a straw hat.

The sun was shining, making the day a perfect one for swimming in a river, or staying home and take a good nap.

But somone couldn't.

Zoro never tought he'd be grateful for being dead, but there he was.

He supposed it was a hot day, and again, he thanked his good star for dying before that day. He couldn't feel the heat. The only thing Zoro was worried about was rotting. Being smelly for all his non-life wasn't in his plans.

Dying as such had been terrible. Starving was definitly the worst way to go. Starving under the hot sun, thirsty, and sweating, was somehow worse. He had been so weak, he couldn't even lift his head, and his arms hurt for being crucified for so long. And then, he was a zombie.

He looked human though, he wasn't rotting yet, and the stupid blond kid who had gotten him in this situation was surely wondering why he was still alive. But he couldn't feel his heart beating, and he didn't needed to breath. If he ever breaked free, that could be an adventake in fights; he wouldn't have to worry for not catching his breath, or.... well, worrying about dying at all.

But that worried him, in part. Is it a fair fight if your opponent can't die? If he always gets up? Will he be worthy of being the best swordsman if he was tecnically cheating? Would Kuina consider him a stupid weakling, who coudn't reach his goal alive and had to die for achieving it? Was his oath to her broken?

A noise interrupted his thoughts. Somone entered to the yard. Probably that dumb bitchy boy again. The swordsman took a deep breath, bracing himself for a long time of being annoyed.

He lift his head. In front of him, wasn't Helmeppo.

In front of him, there was an almost scrawny, tall boy, with a red coat and a straw hat. He had big eyes, and an even bigger smile. A scar layed under his left eye.

- Are you Roronoa Zoro?-He asked, lolling his head to the side.

The aforementioned smirked at that.- It depends. Who's asking?

- Me!-The boy said.

- And who are you?.

- My name is Monkey D Luffy, and I'm gonna be the King of Pirates! Join my crew!

Zoro looked at him a few seconds. -Why would I join a- a scrawny kid in a fool dream? Pirates suck, and I'm not working for one.

Luffy pouted- But I defeated the marines! Also I've got your swords back! Join me!

-...

Zoro noticed for first time his blades, hanging in the boy's back. He was strong, the swordsman could tell. And at the time, it was his only way to get out of there.

- FIne. But-he said, already seeing the younger man getting all excited-I've got one condition. I'm gonna become the best swordsman in the history of this world. If you mess up with my goal, I'll kill you. Am I clear?

The boy just giggled- Sure! I knew a swordsman zombie would be cool!

The man tensed. -How do you know I'm a zombie?

- Cause you.... are? - the other said, and he smiled and he was shining like the sun.

And while the boy with the straw hat freed him from the rood, he thought that, maybe, the sun wasn't that bad.
