Work Text:
The snow fell heavily outside as Jordan woke up. He rolled over to cuddle Brayden only to find cold empty sheets. He groaned as he sat up, grabbing his phone from the side table. One text on the screen from his husband: “Didn’t wanna wake you up. It’s snowing bad tho so I’m getting groceries. Love you”. Jordan sighed and laid back down. He grabbed Brayden’s pillow and hugged it to his chest, inhaling the lingering scent of his shampoo.
“Miss me that much, baby?” Brayden’s voice came from the hallway. Jordan turned to see his husband leaning against the doorframe.
“Get over here and cuddle me.” He demanded in reply, tossing the pillow at Brayden. He walked over, removing his shirt in the process. The bed dipped under the added weight as Jordan pulled him in.
“You should grow your hair out again.” Brayden said as he carded through Jordan’s curls.
“Maybe.” Jordan muttered as he kissed him. “I love you.”
“Love you too.” Brayden whispered. “I got us breakfast by the way.” Jordan smiled and got up, carrying Brayden down to the kitchen. The groceries were on the counter. Brayden started laying out the pre-sliced fruit tray and cinnamon rolls he bought as Jordan put the rest of the groceries away. He opened a bag to find a box of candy canes and a bag of hockey themed marshmallows. He held the bag up.
“Bray, what’s this?” He asked, trying to stifle a laugh from his husband’s obvious caving to his sweet tooth. Brayden blushed.
“A bag of marshmallows…I got them for hot chocolate! Since it’s cold…” He admitted.
“Did you want to go out in the cold?” Jordan questioned, placing the marshmallows on the counter.
“Kinda. We could go play with the dogs out there, make a snowman, just like…have fun?” Brayden replied quietly. Jordan laughed.
“Okay. Get your coat on.” He said.
Outside was frigid. The midwest always had a way of surprising Jordan with how extreme the temperatures got. Their dogs ran rampant through the yard as Brayden built a snow fort. Jordan grabbed a chunk of snow and carefully rolled it in his hands. He waited until Brayden had turned to throw the snowball at him, hitting him square in the back of his head. Brayden turned and at least had the nerve to look slightly betrayed before he chucked a snowball of his own at his husband. It missed. Jordan threw another, hitting Brayden in the chest. Brayden’s next snowball hit Jordan’s shoulder. He quickly ducked into his snow fort to avoid the onslaught of snowballs from his husband.
Two hours later and they both collapsed into the little igloo Brayden built in between snowball fights and wrestling the dogs. Jordan’s nose and cheeks were blushed from the cold as he laid back panting. Brayden wrapped his gloved hand around Jordan’s as they both lay there in the snow catching their breath.
“Ready to go inside?” Jordan asked. Brayden nodded and sat up.
Once they were inside, Jordan heated up water for the hot chocolate. The water was poured into the mugs over the instant hot chocolate powder. He stirred with a spoon before adding milk to cool it and give it a richer taste. Brayden opened the marshmallows and added them to the mugs, more for him obviously. He held up a marshmallow shaped like a goalie helmet.
“Babe, look it’s you!” He said, smiling. Jordan ate it right out of his hand. He grabbed one shaped like a stick.
“And this one’s you!” Jordan joked back. Brayden leaned down to eat the marshmallow, kissing Jordan’s hand before doing so.
Their dogs curled up together in their bed as Jordan sat on the couch, watching Brayden pull up the peanuts christmas special, mug in hand. After the music started, Brayden laid back against his husband, sipping his hot chocolate. Jordan kissed his forehead, wrapping one of his arms around to make circles at Brayden’s hip.
Brayden’s breath gradually slowed as he fell asleep in Jordan’s arms. Jordan covered them in a blanket that was sitting on the couch, kissing his husband’s forehead once again. He was so soft looking while asleep. Gentle and relaxed in a way Jordan hadn’t seen in a while, what with all the new guys and the injuries and the trades. Getting to sit back and enjoy being with his husband had become less of a priority. The fact that they were snowed in now made it even better. No one was going to sneak in using a spare key. Rookies weren’t going to show up with a problem they needed Brayden to solve. Jake wasn’t going to prank them suddenly. They could finally sit there and relax, enjoying each other’s company like they had on their honeymoon.
Jordan finished his hot chocolate and set the mug on the side table. He turned to pull Brayden completely on top of him, wrapping his arms and legs around his husband as he slept. He kissed the top of Brayden’s head.
“So pretty like this, huh baby? I love you sooooooo much. Wish you could relax like this forever. I’m so fucking lucky you’re mine. My beautiful husband.” Jordan whispered whilst he peppered kisses around Brayden’s face. Brayden smiled in his sleep, nuzzling back into Jordan.
“Jor…” He mumbled sleepily, still not opening his eyes, still asleep, just his unconcious brain deciding Jordan needed more love. Jordan inhaled deeply, nuzzling into Brayden’s soft hair. He held Brayden’s hand as they cuddled, rotating the ring on his finger, the only ring Brayden ever wore. The one that matched Jordan’s. The smooth gold band that neither of them ever took off.
Jordan remembered Faulk chirping him about how in love he was with Brayden after they’d played together. He remembered Robby groaning when they finally announced their relationship, saying it took them long enough. He remembered Colton helping him pick out a spot for their honeymoon.
Jordan loved this man more than anything in the entire world. The fact that he could wake up and spend the day cuddling and being a dork with his husband meant everything.
