Work Text:
"Welcome viewers all around the world! Its almost time to end this anticipated match of the year; definitely this Super Bowl number LX will be in the history books. The Red Boys are 4 points ahead from the Coven. The Rookie Andrea Sachs-Priestly has prove herself one more time. She has done the unthinkable, she has led her team as the first female Quarterback in the history of the NFL to the Super Bowl. Since their creation, the Coven had never been in a playoff and now here they are. Who would have thought that this team, the strangest, hated and respected in equal measure by its compatriots and the world, could win this match? It's unbelievable."
Andy breaths deeply trying to slow down her heart beat. She focus her eyes in the paper, trying to puts her mind into the strategy. Her ears had stopped hearing the screams of the crowd hours ago. Adrenaline courses through her veins, as only the Super Bowl game can provoke in an NFL player.
"We came from a long path. You can do it Sachs" she gives herself confidence.
Before this moment, in the draft, when they chose Andy as Quarterback it not only had an impact on the nation, but on the entire world. For the first time ever, the NFL was expanding its horizons, and not one the fans thought like including the homosexual men, hell no. They dare to put a woman in charge of a football team, and not content with that, that woman was also a lesbian.
As spectated all hell broke lose.
Andrea Sachs-Priestly was the center, the gasoline that fueled the fire of both criticism and praise. If the conservatives didn't lose their minds when the brunette was chosen, they sure as hell lose it when they discover that Andrea was also married to the Queen of fashion, The Devil in Prada, Miranda Priestly. The rumors said that one orange president, had a heart attack when the world learn that the couple also shared twins daughters, which between us, not everyone believed that the quarterback have give birth to them, since Caroline and Cassidy Priestly-Sachs was the spitting image of The Devil in Prada.
However, in the face of criticism, praise and hate speech, the coaches and owners of The Coven offered her a one-year contract with the lowest amount paid to a Quarterback, much to Miranda and their army of lawyers and publicists delight. But even so, Sachs accepted the challenge and became their Official Quarterback, leaving it a mystery, whether after completing the year of rookie player, they were going to offer her a contract or let her go.
------------- The two-minute pause ---------
"What a shocking game we have seen today, we are two minutes away from seeing history. On one hand, if Sachs manages to score, she would become the first woman to win a Super Bowl. But on the other hand, if the Red Boys keep the score, they will emerge victorious from this match, taking that third ring, positioning themselves as the only franchise to have won the Lombardi Award consecutively. This match is undoubtedly going into the history books, but I'm going to link it to my fellow commentators, Irv, Jalen the room is yours"
—Thank you, Charles. As you said, we are seeing history. But let me ask the professional, Jalen Hurts —looks at the man in the suit accompanying him at the desk— In your career and experience, as the Philadelphia legend, do you think “the dragon tamer", as Sachs fans have nicknamed her, will be able to score with so little time left on the scoreboard?
Taking a deep breath, Jalen Hurts makes his statement, knowing that his co-worker is not going to agree with him, because he is a of the old school.
—It is very possible Irv, as I have always said —stare right into his ice-cold eyes— You should never judge a book by its cover. This year, Sachs has proven that she is, and dare I say, one of the best Quarterbacks the NFL has ever seen. There is no doubt, she can do it. She has determination, emotional control, the support of her team and the faith, there is no better combo than that —Hurts says convincingly.
—Damn Hurts, how can I forget, that you're a pro-feminist, shall we bet? —Irv says mockingly.
"The white man making his bad joke as always" thinks Hurts. If it were up to him, he'd punch him, but even that wouldn't change the old man's mind.
—Irv, I am telling you, you are going to lose. But sure lets make a bet. If I win, you will apologize to all the Priestly women and for the next five years will attend the Womes´s Strike and donate to the Woman Shelters. If you win I will give you my place in the company.
The arrogant and mocking Irv accepts, shaking Jalen's hand. The Philadelphia legend accepts it, squeezing it tightly.
The cameraman breaking the tension, tells them that they are going to resume the game
—We return to the game and Irv, the dragon tamer will make history. Mark my words.
--------------- End of the two minutes, Returning to the court --------
"the two-minute pause, my ass. More like a minute" thinks Andy.
Everyone knows that you only have one minute to change the score and the remaining one, is to prepare your mind of two ends. You either leave with your head held high with the Lombardy award celebrating or with your eyes looking at the ground, hiding your tears and questioning what you must have done wrong.
Andy turns to look at her team, she notices that they are exhausted, but in their eyes, she can see the faith and determination to not let “the weeping reds” win, as the entire NFL fans have nicknamed them. True be told, the team is not bad, but what is not fair is taking advantage of the fame of the quarterback's girlfriend, the current Hollywood star, to make money with her image without asking the lady about it. Furthermore, in order to take advantage, they have reached this and the past Superbowl with the help of the referees and one or many another NFL executives, but that is a story for another time.
"Fourth and final play" Reverberates throughout the stadium "The Red Boys 45 points vs The Coven with 41 points" finishes the stadium spokesman.
Taking a deep breath, Andy leans in as her team gathers around her. It is obvious that they are thirsty, tired and dirty, however, that is only a small thorn in their hopeful and motivated spirits.
Since the team was created in 1975, they had never reached a Super Bowl. The Coven has always been criticized for having the “rarest” in their lines and by weird they refer to Queer people, although they have never come out of the closet, everyone knows that the majority of their players are gay, therefore, when the coaches and executives in the Draft chose Sachs as Official Quarterback, they hated her, because they knew that if they were despised before, now they would fucking detest them.
Furthermore, they are still men, and they did not understand how a lesbian woman would know more than them. Which is why they made Sachs life impossible, but Andy endured and show them her skills day by day. Finally after many tears, sweat and blood she earned their respect and admiration of the team, as well of her coaches and the entire nation.
—Sachs, I have asked for time out. Heaven to Earth play —her coach indicates through her helmet.
Andy, striking the helmet's head twice with her hands, indicates that she has heard his order.
—Our last chance —she tells them with determination— Don't look at the clock, don't listen to the crowd, don't think about the future. Focus on the here and now. Whether we lose or win, it has been a privilege to play with you —making eye contact with each of her players, she shows the gratitude and appreciation she has for them in her brown eyes.
—Heaven to Earth play. I will see you on the podium, raising together the Lombardi award —Andy affirms convincingly, giving them confidence with her gaze.
Slowly she gets up and she raises her arm towards the sky, closing her hand into a fist and put it to the center to which her team quickly responds with the same gesture as do the bench and the fans. Together they scream at the top of their lungs
—UNTIL THE END!— The offense, defense, bench and fans repeat from the depths of their being, making it resonate throughout the whole stadium.
Breathing slowly, Andy watches as her players gets into position. Feeling panic in her gut, she turns towards the sideline, where she knows she will find them and sure enough, in the corner of the end zone, her brown eyes make eye contact with those light blue eyes that give her security, peace and encouragement.
Nodding to herself, the dragon tamer gives the signal for the last play to begin.
—HUT.
The center throws the ball and the clock has begun its descent.
Andy has the ball in her possession, her defense line tries to stop and endures the brutal blows of the opposing team's defensive line. They come at her as if they were beasts and she was their last meal.
Moving her eyes quickly, she looks for her receivers and runners to throw the ball but all are completely covered. There is no way to give them a pass without endangering an interception.
"Shit" Andy thinks. In seconds she tries to find someone clear, but it's impossible.
—AH! —a Red Boy leaked through the bag but Andy, moving her agile legs, manages to avoid him.
1 minute and 30 seconds
—Fuck it! —shouts as she run out of the security bag.
Running as if her ass were on fire, she quickly crosses the field, there are only 37 yards between her and the end zone.
In seconds she has both teams on her heels to stop or defend her
—Run. Run. Run. —Andy shouts to herself, because she can feel how the reds are chasing her like fucking animals.
25 yards.
1 minute, 17 seconds.
—Sachs! —someone yells at her, causing her to abruptly stop her career. If she didn't, she would be lying outside the field, thrown by the defensive player who almost swept her.
Feeling a push from God knows who, she puts her legs to run like a maniac towards the end zone.
The clock reads 57 seconds and she is already at the 17 yard line.
—Shit! —Grabbing the ball hard with both hands, she feels how someone grab her jersey, tearing the fabric like it was paper, but she doesn't dare stop running.
She feels something running down her neck, but not a hint of pain.
10yards.
49 seconds
The brunette can see now the purple zone.
5 yards.
Suddenly a defender appear out of the blue with muscles like a rock, big and chubby, running towards her, like a bull towards a damn bullfighter.
—Until the end! —Andy shouts with all her might and holds the ball as if it were her baby.
Putting force in her legs, she jumps over the player like a damn monkey. As the defense is falling, he in the last seconds, manages to grave her left ankle, causing Andy to lose control of the fall.
2 yard.
37 seconds.
As if it were in slow motion, Andy is falling into a position that is dangerous for the play, because her knee is going to hit the grass first before the ball can pass the score line. But before it does, the dragon tamer stretches her arms as far as possible, trying to get the ball past the beginning of the end zone.
Yard 1
The whistle of the referees ends the player.
They raise their arms.
Touch down.
"Do you believe in miracles?!" It’s here in the speakers
"Your Superbowl LX Champions are the Coven" echo in the stadium, but it is impossible to hear the spokesperson, because the fans, the team and even the sky itself are roaring.
—The fucking goat you are Andy!
—Son of a bitch you made it!
—That’s our Dragon Tamer!
—We are motherfuckers champions!
Her ears roars from the screams of her team and her heart its beating a thousand miles per hour. Andy is still lying in the end zone, but not for long, because, God knows who, grabs her by her shoulder pads, pulling her to her feet and before she can breathe, hands grab her thighs, lifting her onto the shoulders of Nigel and Dough, her partners in crime.
Laughing like a manic, she quickly takes off her helmet, throws it away and raises her arms towards the sky with the ball in her hands, in celebration.
The stadium roars along with the team.
After a few minutes, which could have been hours, they left her on the ground. She knows she should hug her team, her coach and give interviews, but she only cares about finding her three favorite people in the universe.
Andy, looking everywhere with her eyes and spinning on her axis, desperately seeks to meet those blue eyes; after a few seconds she finds them coming towards her.
She quickly runs to meet them and envelops Miranda and their 6 years old twins, her soul and her heart, in a hug, lifting them off the ground.
—Andrea! —Miranda's excited scream can be heard muffled by the shoulder pads of her sweater.
—Mamma you won! —the little red heads shouts in her ear.
Laughing, she separates Miranda from her neck, giving her a kiss on her lips full of love and euphoria, while with her arms she continues to hold Caroline and Cassidy, who separates them with their laughter.
Turning her face towards her little princess, Andy attacks them with millions of kisses and giving her their signal Cassidy, the adventure of the pair, goes to her place in her shoulders ans sit downs. Caroline, the quiet one, stays in her dominant arm, secure. And with her empty one, grabs her wife head, joining their lips in a passionate kiss.
She can hear the questions and feels the flashes as they are being photographed by millions of cameras but she ignores it. They know tomorrow they will be the front of many magazines and newspaper, but right now, they don't give a shit.
"God help Emily" thinks amusing Andy as the red head is the manager of the Priestly-Sachs public relationships.
Emily will have a lot of work tomorrow. Andy makes a mental note to order a 10-kilo slice of her favorite cheese from Italy.
Their favorite reporter, Kara Danvers-Luthor, having waited a few minutes, kindly interrupts the family moment.
—Andy, congratulations on your winning. How do you feel begin the first woman in NFL history to win the Super Bowl? —shouts in her ear
—Kara, I can't even believe it. I can't explain to you what the emotion is, I have so many of them right know, but I have only felt this feeling twice —she quickly presses her wife even closer to her body and puts a hand on Cass's small leg and gives a quick kiss to Caro´s forehead— When I married my wife and when I held my baby girls in my arms for the first time.
Kara nods sweetly as she also understand. Her three children are evidence of that.
—Andy you are going to the books, you have become a legend, an inspiration for future generations. You probably haven't heard, because until 5 minutes ago the news came out that you have been the winner of the MVP of the year award. How does it feel to be the first woman to win not only the Super Bowl, but to be the first woman to receive the MVP award?
Miranda gasps in surprise and the twins screams at the top of her lungs, hugging her mother's head and neck.
—Andrea! —says her wife giving her a kiss so passionate. They don't give a damn that they are giving a show on international television.
"Sorry not sorry Ems"
—MVP you said! —Andy shouts after ending the kiss and without being able to control it, tears begin to slide down her cheeks.
—That's right Andy. You are the Most Valuable Player of this season, you are the MVP of 2027 —Kara tells her without being able to hide the pride and happiness in her eyes, because she knows the journey "the dragon tamer" had to cross to be in this moment.
—Good God —Andy says, laughing maniacally— Kara, I'm in shock. I don't know what to tell you. The only thing I can say is that without my wife and daughters I would not have gotten to where I am. My wife is the true MVP, she is my motivation, my rock and my safe place —she turns to look Miranda in the eyes and gives her a tender kiss on the forehead.
She turns to Kara and asks her to pass her the microphone, to which she happily agrees, while the camera man focuses entirely on Andy.
—I want to say to my fans, my haters, to all the people who never believed in me and even those who wished for my death or that someone rape me. Thank you. Your hatred encouraged my determination, your violence gave me strength to be the best athlete this league has ever seen and your mockery gave me encouragement to prepare myself every day to be an inspiration for someone else. To those who believed in me and supported me from day one, you will always have my gratitude, because you let me prove to you my abilities and knowledge. And you give me a great gift in return, you showed me that you could see beyond my gender, my sexuality and my personality. Part of my heart will always belong to my team, the motherfucker made me cry on more than one occasion, but little by little we became brothers and without them, I wouldn't be here right now, thank you my sweet bastards for giving me the opportunity to lead you. To my Coach and the executives of the team, I will always be grateful for giving me the privilege to be your Quarterback, you select me even though many of you almost got fired for that decision. This ring is for you, the weird, the impure, the queer, the misunderstood and the believers —Andy finishes while infinite tears run down her cheeks, but she is not the only one, even the cameraman is discreetly wiping his tears.
Smiling as she wipes away her tears, Kara asks the MVP of the year the last question of the night
—Andy the last question, because I know that you must go and celebrate. Any advice you want to give to anyone, regardless of their gender, who is looking to have a career in the NFL?
—As my wife, the Queen of fashion once said to me, "give your very best. Not half, not tries, the best". You will make mistakes, you will be punished, mocked and condemned for it, but never stop believing in yourself. Show them that you can, that you are capable and even if you lose, leave the field with your head held high, because you will know that you have give your very best in the field. You will have lost the battle, but not the war. Never forget your roots. Don't forget where you came from and always be grateful for what you have. Thank you very much and may God, the deity or the universe in which you believe, bless you. —Andy concludes bowing her head in respect.
—Thank you Andy and again, congratulations. Miranda, any message for your wife? —takes gently the microphone of the brunette hands and put it closer to the devil in prada.
Miranda takes Andy's hand and places it on her chest, in front of her heart, while she places her other hand on Caroline and Cassidy leg and shoulder, forming a triangle between the Fourth of them.
—The whole world condemned you, they wish for your death and your end, but despite hate and the doubts, that even I myself at the time had, you never bent. You and your stubborn behind keep going and I still remember your words when you answer my reservations, and I quote "I want to show the whole world that sports are not exclusive for men and women. Sports are genderless. If tomorrow Caroline or Cassidy wants to be a Baseball player, I want them to feel confident and euphoric to do what they loves and not be condemned for it" —Miranda breathes deeply to control the sobs that want to come out of her throat— My love, you are an inspiration for everyone but more than anything, you are the pride of our family. I love you and it is an honor and privilege that our girls and I can call you ours —she ends by giving her Andrea a small but meaningful kiss on the lips, while for the first time ever, the world see Miranda Priestly-Sachs, the Dragon Lady, the Devil in Prada tears falling down her eyes.
Kara, not giving a shit that her crew, the cameras and even her hates are seeing her crying, she stops cleaning her tears. And again, gently she interrupts her favorite couple.
—My God, I will never stop crying with the Priestly-Sachs family —jokes— To the last members of this beautiful family, Caro and Cass, anything you want to say? —Kara asks, holding the microphone closer to the girls, since she already had permission granted. Moments before she had asked for Miranda's authorization to interview them and she, trusting in Andy's favorite reporter, had granted it.
—Everyone hated Mama, but she didn't care as we are Priestly-Sachs. We are more than enough —remarks Caroline.
—My moms say that I should be who I want, that there is no such thing as sports and jobs for girls and boys —declares Cassidy.
—They don´t care about who I love, who path I’m going to work, they just want me happy and healthy —Caro gives her best ice glare to the camera. Is this moment that the twins and every child of the couple will now as the Baby Dragons.
—They are both my favorite superheroes —says Cass laying her head on her Mama.
Not a single pair of eyes are without water. Not only the wives and Kara are shedding tears of happiness, even the cameramen and paparazzi are discreetly wiping their cheeks.
—There you have it, Andy Sachs-Priestly, the first woman to win a Super Bowl, the first woman to win MVP of the year and probably the next quarterback with the best NFL contract. As the Legend, Jalen Hurts, said a few minutes ago, “Never judge the cover of the book, because you might regret it” —Kara says firmly to the Camera— I'm Kara Danvers-Luthor, from Women News and thank you for staying with us in this episode of history.
--------------------------------------------
Holding hands and the twins being hi five by anyone who crosses their path, the Sachs-Priestly family leaves the field.
—Darling, are you ready? —Miranda asks looking her with an amazing amount of love, that even Romeo is put to shame.
—With you and our girls, until the end of the world —giving her a tender kiss on the lips, they enter the locker room tunnel, leaving the celebration behind.
Andy doesn't know if she will be rehired or this was her only year in the NFL, but she knows that whatever the verdict is, she is at peace with herself, she has proven her skills, her leadership and she has lived her dreams. She has won more than fame and money, she won a team that hated her, a fan base who wanted her dead and most importantly, the respect and admiration of the world, something that only a few people have achieved and for her, it is an honor to be part of that list.
Many people, out of fear of what people will say, due to social pressure or family pressure, abandon their dreams. Andy could do it, but she decided to be disciplined, constant and didn’t give a damn about the opinions of the word. She followed her heart; she became a Quarterback. If she had listened to the hatred and criticism, she would not be standing right now, as a Super Bowl champion.
Life will give you tests; you will rise and fall but never give up. If the path you took is the wrong one, return your steps, correct your decision and above all things, never forget your roots and your humility, because life is a Russian roulette, today you are up and tomorrow you may be in ruin.
Live your life without hurting anyone, if your dreams don't hurt anyone, conquer them. It is better to say, "with blood, sweat and tears, I tried and lost at it" than to say, “what if I had only tried"
Making mistakes is a part of the life, making the same mistake is idiotic, but not even trying is cowardly.
Follow your dreams.
Good luck in your travels and if someday we meet, it will be my greats pleasure to listen to your adventure.
