Work Text:
Gast looked down at the cup in her hands, holding it tighter to feel more of the warmth from the hot liquid. She exhaled slowly, the cold winter air condensing her breath. It had been a long day, especially since she had been given a full shift at the coffee shop that day. But, now that she had time to herself, all she wanted to do was enjoy the last cup of coffee she had made that day in a secluded place.
The edge of the city was a great place to do absolutely nothing. This was a fact that had been tested by time. And now, almost like habit, Gast was here again, the grand neon signs of the city framing her in the back and the moon and the open road in front of her.
She took another long sip of her coffee before swirling her cup around. It was a painfully slow day. She wondered if her little sister was asleep. If she was, then she had definitely gotten too involved in the softball games she played after school. If not, then it was staying up late at night solving puzzle after jigsaw puzzle with Luca.
Just then, a loud crash sound echoed from down the other side of road that Gast was parked on and she jerked upright, Her fingers squeezing the cup hard enough for liquid to splash onto her sweater.
“Gh- Who even…”
Suddenly a masked figure in a shimmering red evening gown with a comically large feather boa approached her, teeth gritted. She was dragging something behind her which made an ear grating noise as it practically dug a line into the tarmac.
“Uh who are..? Mghph!?” Gast nearly yelped as the lady shoved her hand over Gast’s mouth.
“Silence. You must help me now.”
And with that she dropped the stop sign and dragged Gast over to the back door of the theatre that was a few blocks away.
In all honesty, Gast probably should have fought back. She probably should have fought her way out of the masked lady’s grip and she probably should have called for help or something. But the way the lady held herself made Gast want some of her own questions to be answered. Not to mention, she seemed familiar… really familiar actually, but Gast knew a bunch of movie actors with the same hair. And she sure as hell recognised that voice but what if she was wrong and then she addressed the wrong person and-
Well, it wasn’t like it would make a difference. Gast already had every box ticked in the well-meaning but awkward and often misinterpreted department.
As the door closed behind them the masked lady adjusted her mask before speaking again.
“You feel like you need to return the favor, right? In that case, you better assist now or you will regret it…” Her face contorted into an expression which Gast could clearly recognise as hatred for even having to utter such a statement. More than that, though, it made it very clear who Gast was speaking to.
“Marion!” Gast immediately felt a hand clamp over her mouth again. “Be. Quiet. Q.U.I.E.T” Gast nodded quickly, Marion’s hand over her mouth.
“What do you want me to do anyway?” Gast murmured, rubbing the nape of her neck sheepishly.
Marion clicked her tongue in annoyance before continuing. “There was supposed to be a recording tonight. Or- well, a shooting of a major movie scene. It was stopped midway because they found something strange at the area which was blocked off for recording and now the entire production has come to a grinding halt.”
“What about the stop sign?”
“You can worry about insignificant things later, first you need to actually sneak onto set.”
“Sneak onto set?! And how exactly do ya expect me of all people to pull that sorta stunt?”
“Why, you wear a costume of course, dimwit.” Marion flicked Gast squarely on the forehead causing her to groan and place a hand where Marion had hit her.
“Ow… yeah yeah fine… what do I gotta dress up as anyways?”
“A maid.” Marion said pointedly, taking a costume off a nearby rack.
“N-no way I'm- im doing- are you seriously..”
“Yes, seriously. Now go put this on. “
Gast nodded and begrudgingly took the costume from Marion and went to put it on. Surprisingly enough, Gast didn't really prefer wearing gowns let alone something as flashy as this, so this was out of her comfort zone. When she returned, Marion had her mask off and was looking at her, eyes wide.
Gast couldn't see in the lighting, but was it… surprise?
“Heh… like what ya see Mario-” Gast was about to finish before Marion's hands dove into her collar and pulled her forwards till their lips met in a searing kiss.
Gast let out a muffled yelped of surprise before it registered in her brain that Marion Blythe was here, hands gripping her outfit like it was a lifeline while her lips were on Gast’s own and-
Gast relaxed, trying to pull Marion closer. Instead she found herself promptly shoved downwards, hitting the ground with a soft and painless thud.
“Ma-marion?” Gast looked surprised as Marion grabbed her collar again pulling her up so that she could whisper to her, lips brushing against Gast's ear.
“There's a job you must get to…”
Marion let go of Gast’s ruffled collar and she scrambled upright.
“So… I take that as you likin’ what ya see now?” She chuckled deeply putting her hands on her hips.
“That was real nice. We should be doin’ that more-”
“I can consider it for a job well executed.” Marion huffed crossing her arms.
Gast smiled softly and kissed Marion's cheek before sauntering away.
“Sure thing. Just try not to make it obvious my second job is a hacker though, yeah? Kind of a secret.”
Marion scowled at her as she walked away.
-later-
Gast had gotten into the scene easy enough. The outfit she was wearing had a staff access pass in the pocket and Marion had shoved a wig over her head the moment her hand pressed the door open.
She currently was sitting behind a crane as people were desperately trying to scuffle about and figure out if the cameras were going to explode or not. A little to the other side there was a car that was unevenly parked on top of the sidewalk with a dent in the front and four slashed tires and-
Ah. That's what the stop sign was from then.
Gast shook her head. She always felt indebted to Marion, especially after she had helped save Gast herself her sister…
Cameras were a quick fix no doubt.
After a few buttons presses on the device in Gast’s lap the cameras returned to normal. Gast did his best to slip away.
Hopefully this means that I can get that job well done kiss…
