Work Text:
Tara flies into the window of Mr. Dekarios's library, nestled in the middle of his Tower. She says, "Mr. Dekarios! Mr. Dekarios! I found another magical item for you." She glides to the floor and continues, "It's rather small but I think it will do the trick nicely." She looks around and asks, "Mr. Dekarios? Are you here?"
She paces around the room. She has never known him to leave his Tower before, or his library for that matter. Not since he had that bomb embedded in his chest. She shakes her head. She blames herself for not taking better care of him.
She takes in a deep breath and doesn't smell his scent. She huffs, "Well, I guess I need to find where he has gone off to now. Maybe he went looking for bigger magical items to consume." She tilts her head. She hopes that is the simple answer to his disappearance but a feeling of concern swells inside her. She doesn't want history to repeat itself.
She jumps back on the window ledge and decides she must try to find him. The poor man must be hurting or worse in danger if he isn't here. She sighs. She has known him for majority of her life. She remembers him being an enthusiastic child, amazing wizard, summoning her as an Tressym kitten. He was so excited to see her and she knew he was the kindness mortal she ever met. His heart has always been pure, kind and loving. She wouldn't have settled for anything less. She takes one last look behind her at the books, cups of half drank tea and scrolls scattered throughout the room. She simply must find him, she has to find him. She needs to know he is safe…for his mother…and her.
She spreads her wings and flies out the window. She says, "Off on a new adventure. Hopefully this one won't end as badly as the last one."
She isn't sure where she should start looking for him. It's been ages since he left his Tower. They have been working together to find a better and permanent solution to his predicament. Reading book after book and scroll after scroll until all the words ran together. They were determined to find a way to separate the Netherese orb from him. She felt they were close to a discovery but nothing presented itself as a solution yet, except the consumption of magical items. It was a temporary fix at best but a fix nonetheless. She knew this is what kept him locked away in his Tower. Besides the research, he simply didn't want to harm others if the orb exploded. He had fail safes around the Tower to contain a blast should the worst happen. Though, she wouldn't hear any talk of an imminent doom. They would find a solution, they simply must.
Tara catches a light scent that reminded her of Mr. Dekarios, not only his scent but his personal connection with The Weave, and starts flying in the direction of Elturguard. She hopes he is safe. Surly if anything dangerous had occurred, she would have seen severe destruction in its wake.
When she lands to take a break, she is sitting in a tree. She figures she is close to Elturguard. She heard of the poor fate that had befallen Elturel. It was sad to hear of how it was dragged into Avernus, thankfully to some adventurers' hardwork it was returned to it's rightful place in Faerûn. Though, she knows it's citizens wouldn't be the same.
She spots a pigeon on the ground nearby. She quietly coasts to the nearby bushes and waits for the perfect moment to pounce on it. Her eyes never leave it as the bird hops around. She positions herself, lifts her wings and wiggles for the right amount of spring to attack. The rustling from the leaves must have been too loud. As she jumps, the bird flys off into the air. She says, "Darn it…missed a meal." She sighs.
The breeze brings a scene of smoke and Tara flaps her wings to find a better view. She sees in the far distance billows of smoke rising from the ground. Though, she can't determine what it is exactly. She soars in that direction, "I hope Mr. Dekarios is ok. Hopefully that has nothing to do with him."
When she lands again, she is in the middle of a wrecked Nautiloid. She glances around the area, "Mr. Dekarios?" She can sense he was on the ship. She shutters. She searches through the wreckage for any sign of him. As she sees the many dead bodies, she hopes she doesn't come across his body. She takes a deep breath, "No no I will not entertain that thought. He is alive, I just know it…" She whispers to herself, "He has to be ok."
Tara remembers when she first meet him, they were both young and he adored her so. He was quite proud of himself summoning her and she had to admit he was an impressive wizard even then. Though, she stayed because she enjoys his company and he is one of he purest souls she has ever met, even if he does find himself in trouble from time to time. He was worth it.
Then Tara sees one of the Mindflayer's brain companions they call Intellect Devourer move towards her. She hisses and attacks it with her claws as she jumps away from it. "Stay back!"
Another Intellect Devourer approaches and Tara flaps her wings get away. Though, instead it says, "Friend of friend! Us will help YOU!" She flies to a ledge of the broken ship and watches as the one attacks and gets rid of the other one. It scurries closer to Tara and says, "Us helps friend of FRIEND! Friend is CLOSE!" She swears she sees it turn into a cat and run away.
She shakes her head and says, "Well…that's a first. I wonder if it meant Mr. Dekarios?"
She avoids the fires around the wreckage. As she continues to search, she steps in a pool of dark liquid. "Ewww!" She shakes her paw trying to get it off of her. "That is disgusting, whatever it is."
Tara decides to fly instead of walking around searching for him. It seems much safer. When she is satisfied he isn't there, she continues up a hill. She doesn't notice anything in particular, a bunch of rocks and dirt. The flowers along the path were pretty.
She comes across a Portal that resonates with his magic. She paws at it and asks, "Mr. Dekarios?!" She decides to take a look into it. She says, "It could lead me to him. Hopefully….this is safe." She walks into it and finds herself in his Tower again. "Well this will be useful, later. Not particularly useful now." She walks around the room and decided to use the Portal again to return to where she was before.
Tara says, "At least I don't have to fly all the way back to Waterdeep. Now where could he be?"
She continues to walk along the path until she notices a goblin hiding behind a rock. It has a bow and arrow aiming at something ahead. She gazes up head to see him on top of a hill casting spells against a group of goblins.
She says softly to herself, "Oh no you don't!" She quickly searches the area and finds the biggest rock she can lift. She grabs it and drops it onto of the goblin, knocking them out. "You will not be harming Mr. Dekarios." She floats to the ground, sits back and licks her paws.
When Tara is done, she watches him. He is with a strange group. She says, "I see he has made some friends. Good!" She watches them gather, talk with others before going into a druid grove. "I will just wait until everyone is asleep. Don't want to alarm anyone. Besides he probably hasn't mentioned his aliment to them yet. I wonder what he is doing all the way here?," she says.
She walks around until she finds a good tree to take a nap in. She yawns and stretches her paws, "Rest. Then tonight answers. At least he is alive." She feels more comfort in that reality than anything else.
That evening she spots his campfire and him trying to rest on a bedroll. She tries to say softly, "Mr. Dekarios? Mr. Dekarios?!" She coughs and says louder, "Youhoooo Oh Mr. Dekarios!"
She watches him quickly stand up and greet her with a smile. He says, "Tara! You found me."
She smiles, "That I have. It's so good to see you, my friend."
