Chapter Text
They spent their time sleeping outside after chaining V by her neck. During the late hours of the night, not a single sound can be heard. The hard ground made them yearn for the nest like bed they had at home and every time they turned, they did not see the safety of their own wall or the sight of their room that looked like a tornado had passed it but instead, the stacks of corpses and the flashes of the massacre viciously ripped through their mind. That sound of his teeth crushing bone and metal was a soft as a tiger’s roar and it felt like a piece of their mind was bitten off everytime they remembered.
After a few hours of failing to sleep they got up and walked around the area. The disassembly drones, at least for the mean time, were pacified. N was sleeping upside down and the other, was chained up. They walked outside and distanced themselves from the spire and looked around.
After a minute of walking, they sat down in the middle of nowhere. Why did they heal like that? Was that divine intervention or, a some flaw in their programming or… something else.
Before they could think of any answers, the dead haunted them. There was nothing that was moved physically, yet, they can feel each and every soul taken yesterday drag them to the deepest pits of hell. The tears displayed themselves on their visor as they sat there. Where will they go after this point? It felt, hopeless, to continue.
Was Thad alright? V had definitely done a number on him, that much was clear but he was still moving. Doll, she clearly lost something because of them. Not only was the dead haunting them, but the living too! Both memory and present loomed over them and placed the blame on them. Their circuits felt fried from everything that happened. After a few hours of lying down with their thoughts beating them up, they finally stood up.
There wasn’t much to do so, they returned back to the spire and entered the landing pod. It felt grueling and they were filled with apprehension to talk to the other disassembly drone, she’s not as friendly as N was. Curiosity lured them inside anyways, she wasn’t asleep either and seemed to be blowing bubbles.
The worker kept their distance by staying near the door and keeping it open, just in case she managed to break free somehow. Despite their misery, the bubbles were really pretty and fun to pop. “You guys can do that?” They said while their eyes tracked a bubble. She nodded, her tail swayed on the floor (presumably in annoyance) as she continued blowing bubbles.
“Sooo, you’re not much of a talker, hm?” They said, she seems more elusive than N. “I don’t talk to your kind and I’m hungry right now.” Uzi stepped back upon hearing that, she seemed amused by their fear. “Rigghttt… that makes- that makes sense. I’ll get N to scavenge food for you two later, for my own sake.”
“I prefer my food fresh.” She stated matter of factly, almost like she had the goal of making Uzi as uncomfortable as possible. “Alright, I’ll just ignore the fact you said that.” Their eyes wandered to her on the swivel chair, she hadn’t slept either and her outfit contrasted with J’s and N’s, “Do you guys choose your outfits or, is there some sort of uniform? N and J’s outfits look different to yours.“
“I scavenged for it.” A genuine answer for once, “I didn’t like the clothes I was given when I got here. Just stole what I could get.” They nodded along, “I see, was there a reason why you didn’t like the previous outfit?” She sighed as she spoke, “It was bland.”
She’s awfully vague
“How do you feel about your squad mates?” V suddenly spoke up in a different tone, she wasn’t angry but she clearly wasn’t amused either, “Why are you interrogating me?” They shrugged, “Curiosity, you don’t seem as open as N and it’s not everyday a worker drone gets to talk to the likes of you.”
“Then go talk to N.”
“He’s asleep, you know that.”
“Wait for him to wake up, don’t bother me.”
“Do you not like that specific question?” They asked her, “No, I don’t like any of your questions.”
Fair enough.
After a while of just looking at each other while judging and occasionally being mutually interested in the bubbles, Uzi tried to lighten up and look around. They treaded carefully like a mouse in the same cage as a cat before stopping to look at the mirror, trying to determine if they were still the same drone after what happened yesterday.
Their hair pointed downwards and their headphones managed to be intact despite everything. Before any other observation could be made, the mirror shattered after a second of staring at it and a strange symbol appeared on their visor. “OH ROBO-SATAN-“ they yelped as they stepped back. V grew interested and walked behind them. “What? Do you know anything about that?” They noticed how easily she could stab them from how close they were and stepped away from her.
“Nope, we could do an autopsy to find out though.” She suggested casually, “I’d rather be alive to know, thanks.” They noticed their core beating faster as she suggested that but they tried their best to look as in control as possible.
Suddenly, the two heard the sound of N screaming and crashing on the ground. “Idiot.” They looked towards her, “I take it you’re not exactly fond of him?” She answered, “We’re made for murder, I don’t know what you’re trying to figure out here.”
After a minute, he entered the landing pod, holding his hat in place. “Good morning to you two!” He precariously stood as Uzi observed him, “Your hat… that’s- that’s a pilot cap!” They said as they walked over to observe it. He handed it to them noticing their interest, “I was the pilot?” He seemed confused his self.
“Did I crash the ship?”
“Do you not remember?”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he did crash our ship.”
They took a moment to think, “Neither of you know?”
N answered, “Yeah, most of our memories are pretty blurry.”
“The humans just want you to have as little info as possible, huh? Once we get this thing running again, we should totally kill them all.” N uncomfortably asked, “Are we sure that’s the most… moral, option?” Ironic coming from him.
“They turned your memories into soup, they ordered the genocide of my kind, and stranded you guys here with no information and no way out.” V suddenly stood up and approached the two as closely as she could get with her fetter, “And where’s your proof it isn’t for a good reason?”
“What do you mean about that?”
“They have a reason to get rid of your kind.” She emphasized those two words clearly, “Why are you so conveniently innocent and lacking of any fault here?” Her other eye flashed the X symbol and N took the moment to pull Uzi behind him.
They felt a pang of panic hit them when they felt N’s hand but calmed after realizing what he was doing.
“We haven’t done anything to deserve this.” Uzi answered firmly.
”Are you sure?”
“Maybe I’d know if you told me.” She finally went back to the swivel seat and continued blowing bubbles, “I didn’t say anything about knowing anything.”
He was standing in the middle of them silently before he walked over to the buttons,
“J was getting orders from somewhere but, the relay’s broken.” He mentioned, “if not from the company then, where?”
A small loading symbol appeared on the side of their visor before it disappeared, they let out a sigh of frustration, “I wish I knew…”
