Chapter 1: Snow Monsters

Chapter Text

It was cold, that was the first thing she noticed after regaining consciousness. The second thing she noticed was that she was laying in several feet of snow. She wasn’t dressed for snow. That was the third thing she noticed as the snow began seeping into the fabric of her tactical uniform. Standing was difficult as every time she moved her body the snow shifted and pulled her off balance.

“Okay Daisy, what are you going to do?” she said finally finding her balance in the snow.

As more snow soaked her clothing Daisy thanked the Centipeed serum flowing in her veins for preventing her from getting frostbite. It was still cold, the serum didn't stop her body from feeling just how cold it was. Accelerated healing could only do so much.

Picking a direction Daisy started walking hoping to find some sign of civilization. Where was she exactly? Did the portal spit her out in Siberia? Pushing her power out around her Daisy tried to sense any other people in the surrounding area, unfortunately there was only a dull feedback in one direction that could mean civilization was miles away. Not that her powers had been very reliable lately. The serum enhanced just about everything about her, but the abilities she woke up to from the terrigenesis seemed to only get weirder and more unpredictable.

Trudging through the snow was not going well. It seemed like every step she took the snow shifted underneath her and caused her to lose balance. After what felt like several hours of walking toward the faint echo of people in the distance Daisy caught sight of something small and black roughly the size of a person falling from the sky. The object hit the ground not far from her location spraying snow in every direction.

Daisy turned toward the object and had barely taken a step towards it before the object rose up out of the ground and began hovering in mid air. Now that it was in clear view Daisy could see that it was some sort of metal jelly fish with silver appendages. It made an odd beeping sound and rotated in her direction. Now looking at what must be the front of this floating metal robot, Daisy could see a large back lens that must have been its main eye.

“Hello, What are you?” Daisy asked, hoping it understood English. Whether it did or not Daisy wasn't sure but the robot made another series of beeps before one of its appendages moved to point in her direction. Before she could even blink a red beam of energy shot out of the appendage striking her square in the chest. The impact knocked Daisy off her feet making her fall back down into the snow.

Thoroughly ‘done with this shit’, or so Daisy said in her head, the inhuman pushed her power underneath her managing to lever herself up into a standing position. Once standing she looked down to see that where the robot had shot her a hole had burned through her top leaving a scorched mark on her chest and the melted edges of her clothes sticking to her skin.

“That was my only shirt asshole!” she exclaimed, causing the robot to make a series of agitated sounding beeps before turning away from her and fleeing in the opposite direction. “Oh no you don't!" Daisy shouted, thrusting one hand out towards the robot and releasing a wave of her power in its direction. The wave of vibrational energy hit the robot in its domed head separating it from the rest of its body. “Well that's new” Daisy said looking from her hand to the now dismembered robot. Her power usually shook things or pushed them. The vibrations didn't normally cut through things.

Deciding to get a better look at the robot Daisy walked over toward it but didn't make it a meter from the wreckage before the robot began loudly beeping and promptly exploded.

“Well damn, I guess I'm not learning anything about the robot squid thing now.” she said aloud while looking at the charred remains. It may have shot her, but robots were still cool, and she would have loved to have seen what made it tick.

With little else to distract her Daisy began walking again towards the faint hum of people off in the distance. The trek was long and honestly kind of boring if you asked the young inhuman. There was no real sign of life anywhere within visual range and no real scenery to speak of other than mounds of snow for as far as she could see.

According to her watch, which was the only working piece of tech still attached to her body, Daisy had been walking for nearly an hour and still hadn’t found any people or signs of civilization. She could still feel the faint hum of people in the direction she was walking in, and that hum was getting stronger, but she was still a fair distance from where those people were located.

After another few minutes of walking it began to snow, said snow storm quickly escalated into a full on blizzard which severely limited her field of view. Not that benign abel to see mattered much when she could feel the ground and other objects around her through their harmonic frequencies.

The blizzard had been raging for some time before Daisy began to feel the presence of something big moving quickly through the snow roughly 2 kilometers ahead of her. Picking up her Pace the young woman wasted no time trying to catch up to whoever or whatever this person or creature was.

The closer Daisy got to her target the weirder she found the information her vibrations were feeding her. It felt as if she was chasing a person riding a kangaroo, which was a very strange mental image. Said kangaroo rider was helpfully moving towards her and she was now only half a kilometer away from them.

As she drew closer she began to feel something stirring under the snow as if a large creature was waking up, and the person ahead of her was moving directly towards it.

Picking up her pace Daisy trudged through the snow as quickly as she could. She felt the large rideable kangaroo die and fall to the snow leaving its rider stranded with the large creature moving in their direction.

Before she could reach them she heard a loud scream as the person ahead of her fell to the ground. She could feel a large lumbering creature standing about the body of the person it had just attacked. She could also feel it grab the body by one of their legs and begin to drag it off through the snow.

Daisy had a decidedly annoying saving people problem and this unknown person was no exception. Deciding that she was sick and tired of being slowed down by the snow around her Daisy raised one hand in front of her and began blasting snow out of her way as she ran toward the creatures retreating form.

In a matter of minutes Daisy reached the mouth of a large ice cave carved down into the ground. There was a trail in the snow leading to the cave where the body had been drug that was thankfully free of blood, hopefully that meant the person who had been attacked was still alive.

Slowly creeping through the cave Daisy tried not to make any sound as she scanned the area for the creature. Not far into the mouth of the cave she could see the body of a man hanging from the ceiling. His legs were encased in ice making it hard to get him free without drawing attention, how had he got stuck there in the first place? She wondered. Looking past the body of the man she saw what looked like a 12 foot sasquatch with white fur. The large beast was holding the carcass of what looked like a deer with too many antlers. They were holding it up against the wall and breathing it. Daisy could see frost in the air coming out of the creature's mouth and collecting around the deer creating ice that clung to the wall holding the animal in place. “I guess that answers my question” she muttered slowly under her breath.

While the creature's back was turned Daisy raised one hand towards the ice around the man's legs and focused on the molecules and forced them to heat up. Within just a few moments the man slipped free of the ice, unfortunately Daisy didn't react in time to grab him and the man fell to the ground with a loud thud.

The monster in front of her roared, raising its arms about to bring them down on Daisy and the unconscious man on the ground. Daisy didn't have much time to think about what to do before being bludgeoned to death so raising one arm she thrust her palm out striking the creature in the chest with a wave of vibrational force. The attack was too weak to do much more than stagger the beast. She hadn’t put all her power into it not wanting to kill the animal. However the bipedal animal seemed to only get angrier with the attack and raised its arms again for another assault.

“Fuck this, I'm sorry but I'm not gonna die today” Daisy stated before thrusting both hands out at the monster causing it to fly across the room impacting hard against the cave wall.

The body of the large beast made a squelching noise upon impact before slumping to the ground. Daisy felt kind of sad for the poor snow monster. It was only trying to eat and survive. Not a small task in this desolate icy wasteland.

Sighing in defeat Daisy turned toward the body of the man. He didn't look that much older than she was. He was wearing a brown and tan thermal coat and pants, and most of his head was covered in a hood and goggles. Carefully removing the google Daisy looked at his face to check for signs of life, she could see his eyes moving behind his eyelids so he was alive just unconscious. Something bothered her about his face though. He seemed familiar somehow. Searching his body for a radio or first aid kit, Daisy found something that both shocked her and filled her with dread. There clipped to his belt was the unmistakable cylindrical hilt of a lightsaber. Looking back to his face his identity was unmistakable. This was Luke Skywalker, and she was stuck in the damn Star Wars universe.

“Just my fucking luck”
