Work Text:
“Ok, can we get it started?” asked Fatin, laying her head on Leah’s shoulder. They were both sitting on Martha’s sofa, waiting for the Secret Santa that Shelby begged them to participate in.
Christmas was three days ago, but they didn’t spend it together. Still, Shelby wanted to do a little thing with her best friends.
So, because of Dot, who refused to spend money on a “stupid date”, they decided to put a maximum price of five dollars on the gifts.
“Yeah. I want to eat!”
Shelby wasn’t paying attention to Fatin’s complaints. So when her girlfriend asked and she listened, Fatin turned to Leah, indignant. But her girlfriend only patted her shoulder, asking her to be quiet.
Fatin obeyed.
The first person to go was Shelby. She was smiling like a little kid, and the present in her hands was a little too big for the price she was supposed to use.
“Soo… my Secret Santa is a super special person that I love very much and—”
“Aww, so it’s me, right babe?” Toni teased, while the other girls screamed for her to shut up.
Shelby blushed, but still continued: “No, baby. It’s not you. Because the girl I got is very… bold.”
Dot frowned. A finger brushed against her lower lip.
“Like… sexually daring?”
Shelby rolled her eyes. “Yeah.”
In a minute, Fatin pulled away from Leah, standing up with a shout: “It’s me!”
Shelby nodded, handing her the present.
“Shelby, you treacherous girl, what are you hiding in here?”
For a moment, everyone stayed quiet, watching Fatin drop the wrapping. And when that happened, laughter echoed.
It was a basket of lubricants.
Leah hid her face inside her blouse when Toni yelled, “The gift was for Fatin, baby. Not for her to use on Leah!”
When the girls finally stopped with the dirty jokes, Fatin took control.
“Well, my gift is for the girl with the most beautiful eyes and—”
She didn’t need to say anything. All the girls interrupted her at that very moment:
“Leah.”
Fatin agreed with a smile, while Leah stood there, surprised.
“Well, I don’t think this is fair.”
“Shut up, Rachel. You’re just jealous because I have the hottest girlfriend here,” she said before kissing Leah. “Darling, I have to say: I thought for a minute about not giving you a gift, because you already have me, and I’m everything you need.”
Leah rolled her eyes, but let Fatin continue with a small smile.
“But then I was in a library and I saw this. It’s that book you wanted.”
“Are you kidding?” Leah said. Fatin shook her head. Leah’s smile stretched from ear to ear. “But that book is very expensive!”
Jadmani shrugged.
“For you, it’s worth it.”
They kissed. And even with the girls complaining about how they didn’t know how to play, Fatin knew they were happy.
Leah got Dot. She gave her a personalized cigarette pack.
Dot got Rachel a keychain, which caused Reid to hit her, stating that she should be less stingy.
As fate would have it, Rachel got her own twin. And she gave Nora a used children’s puzzle.
When it was Nora’s turn, she surprised everyone.
“My Secret Santa has a crush on a mannequin.”
She gave Martha a new mannequin, since Marcus was left on the beach.
“How did you get this?”
“Um… I found it on the street.”
Martha got Shelby and gave her a bottle of wine. They decided to taste it before the last round and almost threw up.
“Wait, but… what about me?”
The girls’ eyes widened as they stared at Toni’s slumped shoulders.
Shit.
“Baby, oh God! We forgot! I’m sorry. When I decided to do this, you were here and we forgot to decide who was going to buy two gifts and—God, I’m so sorry. Did you pay for anything?”
Toni gave a sideways smile, pretending not to be upset.
“No. I… you said you were going to buy something for me to give to someone, remember?”
Yeah… Shelby forgot about that too.
“We’re sorry, Toni,” Martha said, looking seriously into her best friend’s eyes. “Your gift can be us…”
Toni’s smile faded into a grimace.
“Ew. No.”
But it was too late. Shelby was already covering Toni’s face with kisses while the others grabbed her in an awkward group hug.
Deep down, Toni felt her heart warm.
Who needed stupid gifts?
