I never thought I'd see him again, not anymore or anywhere except in my dreams. But there he was sitting at our living room, he changed a lot but his eyes were the same. Both our mothers were chatting away with laughter sipping their tea, but we looked at each other, the time around us stopped.
I had a strong urge to look away but I didn't, it would be rude considering his gaze was fixated on me too, only he was awkwardly smiling. I don't know if I was even smiling or not, it didn't matter to me at the moment.
" Tsubaki, you haven't touched your tea - oh wait, Ren-chan you haven't either "
Mother's voice snapped me out of my trance
" Oh I - Well yes-- " I said, clearing my throat then quickly reaching out for the cup of tea, and without giving a thought I drank it.
It was too hot, I almost dropped the cup as I coughed.
" Tsubaki! " Mother ejaculated, patting my back.
" Yeah - I'm okay " I cleared my throat and I looked down.
" Oh! Tsubaki-chan, are you okay? " Mrs. Yamazaki said.
" Yes, I'm okay " I said. My ears ringed up as I heard a slight chuckle. I looked up to see Ren covering his mouth with his right, and smiling.
" Ren! You are not to laugh! - Have I raised you this way?-- " " Oh Akane! It's alright, Tsubaki is very clumsy afterall " Mother sighed and then chuckled.
" I'm sorry, Tsubaki "
His voice changed a lot, it was pretty obvious that his voice wasn't going to remain the same but it was still shocking to me, that even if his voice and accent changed, it still had the same undertone of that feeling which I couldn't explain.
" Tsubaki, what are you to say - whenever someone apologizes to you? " Mother said, glaring at me while sipping her tea.
" Oh - right, It's okay, no harm done " I said as I forced a grin.
Aunt Akane ( Mrs. Yamazaki) smiled and then said " Ren is going to be transferring to your school very soon for a good 4 months you know "
My heart dropped.
" Akane! You weren't supposed to spill the surprise " Mother chuckled.
Aunt Akane giggled before saying " Ren is going to go back very soon to Australia now, but he wanted to finish high school here " Aunt Akane explained,
I still didn't process anything.
" Tsubaki? Do you have anything to say? " Mother said
" Oh, yeah that's great. " I said, my voice sounded so dry.
He chuckled again.
