‘Do you think there’s any hope for the kid?’
‘I love Jason.’ Whizzer paused ‘But this is not his venue.’ He finished with a chuckle, not hateful just more in a teasing way.
‘Are you free? After the game I mean, there’s a few things I wanted to talk to you about.’ Marvin’s heart was beating rapidly out of his chest; this was the moment that made or broke their relationship.
‘Sure.’ Was all the reply Whizzer could think of, he seemed like a flirty and confident guy most of the time but he was truly nervous and hopeful that something good could become of this.
They sat in silence for most of the game, Marvin sometimes running his hand through Whizzer’s hair which at that point they had just convinced themselves was normal. Once the game finished Jason ran up to his two dad’s first.
‘How did I do?’ He was out of breath but still had a beaming smile on his face.
‘You did pretty good kid, I’d like to play with you sometime.’ Whizzer patted him on the shoulder and have him an encouraging smile and so did his dad.
‘You did good Jason I’m proud of you.’ Marvin added. He smiled then ran towards the rest of his family waiting.
‘Are you ready to go? You said you wanted to talk after where are we gonna go?’
‘My house? I mean it’s the only place I really have available right now to go to besides the store.’ He tried to make a joke but no one really laughed knowing he was wasn’t lying.
‘Lead the way.’ His (ex?) boyfriend replied, trying to act tough whilst his heart was in his throat.
Within a short span of 5 minutes later and a very awkwardly silent car ride back they were in his living room, facing opposite each other on the couch.
‘I’m really sorry,’ Marvin started, looking down at his lap in shame. ‘I did so many things that were unforgivable that I don’t even understand why you even agreed to come back with me. I’m sorry for constantly shouting at you, I’m sorry for being rude, I’m sorry for not being more caring and around enough.’ Tears prickled in his eyes as Whizzer cut him off.
‘I’m also sorry. I mean, it wasn’t just always you being a bad partner I always slept around and cheated during our relationship and especially after we broke up and I was constantly snapping for no good reason. I don’t remember ever apologising for it and I know it can’t just be fixed with a few words but I genuinely do apologise.’ The two of them had tears rolling down their faces, feeling and looking the most vulnerable they have for years.
‘I’m sorry.’ Marvin added, feeling like he had to say it a million more times.
‘I’m sorry.’
‘C’mere.’ Marvin wrapped his arms around him, causing the other to practically sit in his lap and wrap his arms around his waist. He pressed soft and gentle kisses into his hair, careful to not mess up his hair.
‘Are you willing to give this another try?’ Came the muffled reply.
‘I would love that more than anything.’ He placed his finger underneath his chin and brought his head up for a kiss. It felt like a promise: not turning out like they did last time.
There was a knock at the door.
‘Who would be knocking at your door at this time?’
‘Jason.’
‘Jason?’
‘It’s Saturday baby.’
‘Ooh pet names now.’ He snuggled closer into him despite knowing he had to get up.
‘That’s right get used to it. I need to get the door or Trina’s probably going to torture me.’ Marvin joked, this one actually causing people to laugh.
When the door opened, Jason was going to greet his father but then saw Whizzer smiling at him from the couch.
‘WHIZZER!’ He shouted, looking the most happy that he had in months. He ran towards him, wrapping him in a big hug.
‘Hey kid. How come you’re so excited you just saw me?’ He chuckled.
‘Are you and my dad back together again?’
‘Yes Jason, we are officially back together now and we won’t end up like last time.’ Marvin smiled, wrapping an arm around his lovers shoulders.
He kissed him once more, and for the rest of the day Jason made the two of them play chess with him now that he had his favourite people to play it with.
