Chapter Text
her brethen had escaped. they were free and... she was proud. her mijo got out and she had a feeling he would be okay.
~
its lonely sometimes, but hasnt it been like that ever since her organs didnt feel like hers anymore? survival was the priority, not company.
she accepted everything a long time ago. before her scars got so deep they created holes in her fins. before her ribcage was filled with eyes leaking with radiation.
it didnt hurt anymore. if those bared teeth could be called a smile, then so be it. she wanted to melt everyone into pathetic puddles, useless mush on the floor. lifeless.
and when the saboteur let her free, so she did.
-
sebastians mind was a solace, filled with mutual understanding. ...unlike all the disgusting minds she entered before. it used to feel like a burden, now, it felt like a blessing.
she observed him before, knew him, maybe better than he knew himself. this wasnt weird to her at all, its how things were.
it finally felt like company was an affordable need.
-
she missed her mijo, everything was awfully... quiet. she was used to the screaming so much that it didnt feel like a sound anymore. for her, thoughts were louder than words.
his mind was like a book that she kept rereading for comfort. familiarity felt safe, but of course it wasnt gonna be there forever.
being able to think became a curse again. most of the experiments werent self-aware enough to understand what has been done to them. they knew that it... hurt. hurt was bad. everyone could agree on that.
maybe it was better that way, because understanding wasnt necessary here.
...though survival was. it was time to let instincts take over. it was time to hunt.
-
she swam 'outside', to the more open area of the let vand zone. passing around a blacked out screen on the way out didnt make her look back anymore.
well, a few of her eyes did. no more gauntlets, huh? she would never admit to enjoying this mischievous deal they had going on, but did she miss it sometimes. she made a loopy circle in a bout of joy. he was in good hands.
-
the only thing a shark like her needed for hunting was smell. with her radioactive sight, killing was almost far too easy to put any effort anymore. sense the prey, get close, munch on the weak or already dead body.
digesting was the uncomfortable part. she adapted though, learned to have eyes open wide, melting the prey a bit more, then quicky shutting them so nothing would touch her sclera, the many of them.
would it even feel anything after all this time? the eyes prodding inside her gills lost the ability to feel a long time ago. thankfully, breathing didnt hurt.
-
she swam up to the edge of the let vand zone. what was she searching for? her brethen wont recognize her anymore, not mentioning she would kill them by sight.
in those moments, she was grateful for the pressure. when escape wasnt possible, it wasnt tempting.
this is her home now, she might as well explore it.
-
as far as she knows, a radioactive bullshark is one of the apex predators here. 'one of', as if shes sure theres others. there has been sebastian...
a lovely whale song was almost unheard due to her numbness to sound. ah, vultus luminaria... beautiful species, albeit pests.
sure, urbanshade also hated them, but they didnt hold the same understanding with the experiments. they were here first. before urbanshade, before the blacksite.
...well, in a way... urbanshade did take their home away. information flowing inside just by looking wasnt anything unfamiliar for her. it was natural.
maybe she judged them harshly. maybe urbanshade was the pest.
-
her illuminating eyes grabbed attention immediately. without stalling, she swiftly swam to the nearest shelter. having a hook stuck in her thick skin again without anyone who could pull it out didnt sound like a pleasant idea.
the flooded containers led to more flooded... vents? slowly widening and rounding, now resembling huge pipes. the water became more still and she didnt smell any creatures nearby. what sort of a dead valley was this?
finally, she exited the pipes to a more open area, filled with seaweed and mines. she continued deeper, suddenly stopping to circle around the many skeletons scattered about the sandy bottom.
...
she clearly wasnt the only apex killer here.
