“Whoa there!”
“I’m so sorry!” Kodira cried as she sprinted over to the dock where Amber had just plucked a stray harpoon from its path. Kodira brushed her loose hair back with a hand as she approached. This wasn’t shaping up to be the long-awaited reunion Kodira had been dreaming of.
“You’d uh- you would think the open ocean would be a big enough target to not miss. That’s what I get for taking out amateurs.”
“No sweat, Bubba. Could’ve happened to the best of us,” Amber responded, cheerfully pointing at herself with a thumb. She offered the stray harpoon to Kodira, but not before twirling it like a baton.
An awkward chuckle escaped Kodira’s lips.
“Speaking of…” she began. “These guys don’t have a clue what they’re doing. Why don’t you visit us on the Baby and show them how it’s done. You can beat them up a little, as like uh payback.”
Amber closed Kodira’s hand around the extended harpoon, apparently tired of waiting for her to accept it.
“No thanks,” she said, turning away. As she returned back to the small ship she was tying down, Amber called over her shoulder.
“Like I said, don’t sweat it!”
