Chapter Text
Scar rolled over in bed as his morning alarm went off, he smacked his hand over his phone and turned off the alarm. Scar didn’t even realize that he smacked his phone, until he heard shuffling coming from the other side of the bed. Grian rolled over at the sound of the alarm going off, partly due to Scar smacking his hand over it.
“wha’ was that…”
Grian mumbled quietly against Scars back bringing his hands to wrap around Scars waist.
-
Scar and Grian have been dating for a little over 2 years, they recently moved into an apartment together. It wasn’t the most luxurious apartment but it got them through life. They both absolutely loved living together, waking up next to each other every morning was a dream come true. Grian worked as a florist in a nearby flower shop run by Scars brother, Bdubs.
Meanwhile Scar had a much more complicated job, he always told people, including Grian, that he worked as Criminal Investigator when in fact it was quite the opposite he worked as an Assassin. Scar got the job about 4 years back before he met Grian. When Scar started dating Grian it was so hard to not tell him what he worked as. Nobody knew that he worked as an Assassin, besides the people he worked with.
Scar loves his job but he doesn't really enjoy the rules he has to follow to keep this job, but he can’t lose this, it’s keeping him and Grian stay afloat and not lose their apartment.
-
“s’rry didn’t mean to wake you…”
Scar answered, rubbing the sleep from his eyes trying to wake himself up. He rolled over to face Grian humming softly. Scar ran his fingers through Grian's hair.
“do you have to go to work….?”
Grian asked, still groggy from just waking up, his eyes still closed and his arms wrapped around Scar like a life line not wanting to let him go.
“y’know i have to… last time I was late and Cub wanted to murder me.”
Grian made a small groan in protest of Scar leaving.
“okay.. okay.. maybe a few more minutes.”
Scar caved in allowing Grian to wrap his arms tighter around Scar, Scar snaked his arms around Grian holding him, his face ruffled in the other man’s hair humming softly. He loved Grian and Grain loved him. Life was perfect.
They held each other close for a moment just listening to the other's heartbeat, Scar closed his eyes trying to forget that he had to go to work. What cut him off was the sound of his second alarm going off. Grian sighed, annoyed hearing the alarm.
“Ok now I really gotta get up.”
He kissed the top of Grian’s head before letting go of him. Grian’s arms went loose allowing Scar to sit up. Scar yawned, stretching his arms above his head before standing up and turning off all of his extra alarms in case the other alarms didn’t get him out of bed. He looked down at the bed seeing a half asleep Grian hugging Scars pillow that he was using just a moment ago.
Scar walked over to their shared bathroom and clicked on the light shutting the door behind him so the light wouldn’t wake up Grian.
Scar fixed up his hair in the bathroom mirror before brushing his teeth. He walked out of the bathroom walking over to the other side of the room where his dresser was. He opened the 3rd drawer grabbing a nice black jacket and jeans. Scar didn’t wear super fancy clothes to work because all of the clothes that he wears on the clock were at the office. He couldn’t just arrive there in a fully armored outfit.
Scar put on his outfit ready to head out the door, he turned back quickly to grab his watch off the bedside counter. He paused to give Grian a quick kiss on the forehead.
“See you tonight, I love you”
He smiled before heading out the door. Grian didn’t start work until 9:00 meanwhile Scar had to start at 7:30.
Scar grabbed his keys and walked outside inhaling the scent of the morning dew. He loved mornings. He was definitely a morning person.
—
It usually took Scar a good 15 minutes to get to work but today it was taking longer than usual. Traffic was backed up and Scar didn’t know why but if he was late again he knew that Cub wouldn’t be so happy.
Scar sighed resting his head against the steering wheel sighing angrily. He looked in front of him a long line of cars waiting at a stoplight, they moved every once in a while but it was taking forever.
Scar pulled out his phone searching for Cubs contact. He shot him a quick text.
Scar: Hey Cub Cub! I might be late for work trafic is so backed up. So sorry i will try not to be late tomorow 😿.
He hit send hoping Cub wouldn’t be too upset with him. He looked up from his phone without realizing he was getting closer to his work.
“Finally!”
He said it himself he was waiting in this line for at least 20 minutes. He was finally moving closer to work.
Scar spotted his work and pulled into the parking garage next to the building. He sighed a breath of relief.
—
Scar scanned his key card against the reader at the front entrance of the building. It flashed green before opening the door allowing him to come in.
He walked to the changing room to get into his work gear on the 2nd floor. Opening the elevator to a mad looking Cub standing in it.
“Ah!- Oh uh hey Cub Cub you look nice today!”
Scar got jumpscared by Cub getting taken back by his sudden appearance.
“Scar.”
Cub crossed his arms looking disappointed. Scar sighed stepping into the elevator. Cub and Scar have been best friends since they were kids, they basically were brothers. Scar knew that Cub couldn’t stay mad at him for long.
“I’m sorry I promise I wasn’t late on purpose, the traffic was just really bad.”
Scar spoke with the little hand thing that he does when he is explaining something.
“It’s alright it’s alright you know i got this project goin’ on and-“
Cub was trying not to be angry before he was cut short.
“I know I know I promise I won't be late tomorrow.”
Scar looked over at Cub, giving him the promise eyes. Cub rolled his eyes and laughed before the door opened to the elevator, both of them stepping off. Scar was heading to the dressing room to get his gear on and Cub was going the other way to work on one of his projects.
“See ya later Scar!”
Cub waved goodbye
“Goodbye have a great time!”
Scar called out to Cub before walking the other way towards the dressing room.
He opened the door grabbing his suit out of his locker. His suit consisted of tight leather pants and fingerless gloves, a black hood and mask (which they only wore when out on duty), a belt which carried his bow and on his back a quiver with arrows inside, and combat boots. There was a bunch of other stuff to wear under all of the main stuff to keep them safe, like armor pads on specific spots.
Scar carried his stuff to the changing cabbies and walked inside, closing the curtain behind him.
“Is that a Scar I hear?”
A voice said from behind another curtain, it was none other than Tango of the Tek.
“Well hello there Tango!”
Scar smiled hearing Tango's voice. Tango was one of his colleagues that worked with him as an assassin, one of the best parts of this job is the people you work with.
Scar slipped on his combat boots and pants.
“I’m also here!”
Another voice appeared from behind a curtain.
“Is that Etho I hear?”
Scar smiled hearing Etho's voice, Etho and Scar had known each other for a while, well they originally met when Bdubs started dating Etho and then Etho started working as an Assassin. Since then they have been good friends.
“Hows Bdubs?”
Scar asked Etho, he hadn’t talked to Bdubs in some time now he’s been so busy.
“He’s doing good, the flower shop is booming!”
Etho replied
“That’s great to hear, you should definitely come over sometime with Bdubs I could make soup!”
Scar spoke as Etho giggled.
“I’ll have to do that sometime”
“Tango you could also bring Jimmy! Grian would love to see him!”
Tango and Jimmy were also dating, what were the chances that one of his coworkers would be dating his partner's Brother and other dating his brother. So confusing.
“I’ll see if he’s up to that”
Tango chucked slightly.
Scar walked out of the changing room seeing Tango and Etho also done. They all walked out at the same time heading to the meeting room chatting along the way.
They entered the meeting room taking their seats. At the front stood Xisuma, all of the assassin's boss. They’d have meetings every morning and get assigned tasks for the day, this day was like any other day meetings and tasks.
“Good morning everyone, are we ready to start off the day?”
Xisuma announced, smiling like he usually is. Everyone nodded ready to get the day started. Xisuma flipped through the slides going over what they were doing and how they were doing.
Scar tried his best to make it look like he was paying attention, but he would admit that he gets bored easily. When Xisuma finally finished all of that he flipped to the tasks slides. Today Scar didn’t have much of an important task he just had to help Cub on his project which wasn’t the worst job he could get. But he knew that Cub would probably let him go to target practice for an hour or two.
Everyone was given a task and they were off to work on them. Etho had a target to get so he couldn’t stick around getting to work fast and Tango also had a target to get to.
Scar sighed walking over to Cubs office, he loved Cub but he never understood what he worked on. Too much ‘nerd’ stuff. Scar knocked 3 times on Cubs door, Cub walked over to the door to open it.
“Hi Cubby Cub!”
Scar walked in holding his bow in his hands.
“Hi Scar! Are you who i’m paired with?”
Cub asked, sitting back in his office chair fiddling with his laptop.
“Sure is! Buttt… you don’t mind if I.. go to target practice for a little bit right? Gotta get those bulls eyes in.. y’know?”
Scar messed around with his bow wanting to use it Cub rolled his eyes, he wouldn’t need another person for a little while, so sure why not.
“Yeah sure but when I need you, you better come back up here.”
Cub pointed at Scar as he talked.
“Yes! Thank you Cub your the best ipromiseillcomeback-“
Scar walked, more like ran, out of Cubs office towards the target practice room. Before clicking the elevator button door Xisuma was running towards him.
“Scar!”
He shouted trying to stop Scar. Scar stopped and looked over at Xisuma.
“Hey X what’s up?”
Scar looked confused at why Xisuma was running at him.
“Scar.. you have a new”
Xisuma was trying to catch his breath
“Target.”
Xisuma got out through his breathing.
“Ooo really is it now?”
Scar asked amused.
“Well it’s different.. it a lot.. and i mean a lot of money towards this target.”
Scar tilted his head as Xisuma spoke. The word ‘money’ made his head pop up. Usually targets were between $10,000-$80,000 so Scar was assuming somewhere in the 90,000 range.
How much money was put on a target is the money the Assassin would be paid, 25% going to work. Scar didn’t get tasked with many targets being the only one in the whole organization to use a bow as his weapon. Scar didn’t think it was much of a big deal most of the assassins use Snipers, which are loud, so Scar went with something more quiet.
“How.. much?”
Scar asked, still confused, why this was such a big deal.
“$10,000,000.”
Scars eyes widened, and his mouth dropped. Who wants someone to die this bad and why would they task him to do this??? He could buy a new house with that money, he could finally buy a ring to propose to Grian with. He could make a whole new life with that kind of money.
“Woah.. woah.. that’s.. phew that’s a lot..”
Scar shook his head in disbelief trying to bring himself back to reality.
“I know! Here’s the details, there is no date for when it needs to be done, you can do it now or later.”
Scar picked up the folded paper in Xisuma’s hand not opening quite yet, there had to be a catch.
“What’s the catch?”
Scar questioned who would pay this much?
“There isn’t any catch I promise.”
Xisuma had a tone in his voice that he was telling the truth, he was just in disbelief. Scar put the paper in his pocket wanting to open it in his office still unsure of the seriousness of this task.
“Well I'll let you get to it.. come to me if you have any questions.”
Scar nodded at Xisuma as he turned around and headed to his office leaving scar in disbelief. Scar finally clicked the button of the elevator riding it down to his office. He reached his hand into his pocket looking at the little folded up piece of paper. He walked into his office, shutting the door behind him. He sat in his chair finally opening the paper.
Scars heart dropped down to his feet.
In it read
“Grian Solidarity”
