Work Text:
Kanade is not an outdoorsy person. She doesn’t like the warm sun or its light. But Kanade is a good person; the familiar sun who's seen everyone and everything, the plants that sway freely in the park and the tortured ones that try to survive in the city's concrete floor, the stray animals that travel aimlessly but stop to take just one, long look, they all agree together.
Mafuyu doesn’t care about anything. Not the sun, not the dried-out streets, not any form of life whatsoever. Nothing really catches her attention.
But that is a lie, because every time Kanade speaks to her, those rare times that a sweet little voice comes out, an invisible desire to pay attention to her with absolute focus takes over. It is strange, and it has nothing to do with music.
She doesn’t mind going places with her. She has nothing better to do with her time once she has finished studying. Together with Kanade, she enters the flower shop. The smell of the flowers was strong outside of it, but it is even stronger inside the shop. Of course, it is full of flowers.
She doesn’t care, but Kanade takes a deep breath, as if the flowers have a healing ability that can relax her restless mind and her tense muscles.
Together, they walk straight toward a specific part of the shop. Behind the counter, Kanade talks to the shop owner. They speak as if they have known each other for a long time, like good friends. Or maybe that is simply the way Kanade talks to everyone.
The carnations are waiting for them in the same place as always. The shop owner prepares a bouquet filled with white carnations while Kanade and Mafuyu wait. They don’t exchange words; Mafuyu never finds the need to speak when she is next to Kanade. Words are not necessary with her.
Time passes fast because it doesn't wait for anyone and the bouquet is beautifully prepared, so they pay and they leave. The sound of the shop's bell rings one last time as the door behind them closes.
Their routine ends as it always does; nothing changes. They leave the shop, the bouquet in Kanade’s hands. Kanade catches Mafuyu’s gaze, which is fixed on her. Mafuyu never resists the temptation to look at Kanade when she is holding flowers.
Kanade says nothing, she only smiles and frees one hand to wrap it around Mafuyu’s own.
Mafuyu doesn’t care about the sun, because she knows it is not the one that gives her warmth. She is confident that she will never be cold as long as Kanade is by her side.
