The tall brunet huffed impatiently at his husband. "Lelouch, that's the forth story tonight. If we don't get Naomi to bed now, she'll be cranky in the morning."
"But Suzaku! She really likes listening to her father read her favorite books. Right, Nao?" The seven month old clapped her hands and made little happy noises at the words 'read' and 'books'. The other male sighed and lifted his daughter off his lover's lap and walked towards her bedroom.
"Stories are for good little girls who sleep. Right, Lelouch?" Suzaku emphasized Lelouch's name, trying to get him to give up on reading baby books for the night. Lelouch sighed in defeat and put the book with the others before replying with, "Yes, they are." The brunet smiled in satisfaction and placed his baby inside her yellow crib, sitting in the rocking chair right next to the wooden bed. He was about to start moving the crib when Naomi sat up and looked at her dad from behind the thin bars of her bed. She fussed a bit, grabbing weakly onto the poles and shaking a bit. The younger male decided then to picked up his daughter and started to sway her gently in his arms; that's when he began to sing.
"Hush, little baby, don't say a word. Papa's gonna buy you a mocking bird.
And if that mocking bird won't sing, Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring."
"Where are you going to find a mocking bird?" The Britannian prince smirked from the doorframe he was leaning on.
"Hush. This is Naomi's favorite lullaby. It'll help her sleep. Would her father like to sing it with her dad?" Suzaku smiled to his husband and beckoned him over. The ravenet shook his head and mumbled something like, 'He'd rather listen'. Now ignoring the man in the doorway, the knight began to sing to Naomi once more.
"And if that diamond right turns brass, Papa's gonna buy you a looking glass.
And if that looking glass gets broke, Papa's gonna buy you a Billy goat."
"None of these are reasonable."
"If you aren't going to sing the song, then be quiet. You keep distracting Naomi." Suzaku's tone held annoyance, but his actions of gently rocking his daughter never faltered; nor did his soft singing voice once he started again for the second time.
"And if that Billy goat won't pull, Papa's gonna buy you a cart and bull.
And if that cart and bull tip over, Papa's gonna buy you a dog named Rover."
Lelouch was now out of the doorway and instead now standing in front of a sitting Suzaku. The prince started singing along with his husband, since he felt bad for disrupting and keeping their child up late; he started to cradle the baby himself.
"And if that dog named Rover won't bark, Papa's gonna buy you a horse and cart.
And if that horse and cart fall down, you'll still be the sweetest little baby in town."
Placing a now-sleepy Naomi into her crib, Lelouch covered her with her favorite golden blanket and exited the room.
"Hey, Lulu," Suzaku softly called to Lelouch once they were out in the living room. "Thank you for singing to her. I know she loves hearing her father's voice." The younger male wrapped his arms around the older male's waist as he looked down at him slightly. The older put his hands on the younger's shoulders and rested his head on his chest.
"I know she likes hearing her dad more, though. Did you see how calm she was?"
"It's like she responds the opposite way of ourselves. She's hyper around you and when you read to her and calm and collected when I'm around her."
"Hm." Lelouch made a noise of agreement. "You're right. That's weird."
"I'm glad you made the choice of being parents, Suzaku."
"I'm glad you picked Naomi to be ours, Lelouch." Lelouch took his head of Suzaku's chest and leaned in to give a loving kiss to his husband. They stood still together while giving the soft and sweet kiss before Suzaku whispered, "I love you."
"I love you, too." Was the quick response from a smiling ravenet to a smiling brunet. With the exchange of sweet words done, they continued their little kiss before heading off to bed.
