Uncommon Guests

Summary:

Slogra and Gaibon go to a drive-in theater and have a nice time. That's it.

Notes:

Credit for this idea again goes to wonderful girlfriend.

Work Text:

It had been Gaibon’s idea to go out on Halloween. Now that Slogra thought about it, it was such an obvious solution – public panics were much harder to incite if everyone assumed you were wearing extremely detailed costumes.

Case in point, the ticket seller looked a bit shocked when she saw them, but she quickly returned to her customer-service smile and peeked inside the car.

“Will it just be the two of you tonight?”

Slogra nodded.

“That’ll be $12, please.”

Gaibon handed him a neatly-folded – if full of claw holes – pile of bills, which he passed to the young lady.

“Thank you, enjoy the show!”

Slogra squawked at her, and she laughed. “Getting into character, I see.”

The popcorn vendor was a bit more unnerved by the strangely realistic monster suits and the silence of the people in them, but the fear of getting into trouble with corporate over harassing a pair of mute customers held his tongue as he passed a large tub of butter-drenched popcorn over to the couple.

They settled back in the seats of Slogra’s rusty old car, and Slogra immediately dived into the popcorn. He shoved his beak into the bucket, allowing him to eat and watch the trailers on the faded screen at the same time. Gaibon could have scolded him for being gross, but instead, he just worked around the other monster’s beak to fish out large handfuls of popcorn.

More cars pulled up all around them, filled with groups of friends and other couples, most of them decked out in some measure of costume. The rev of motors died down along with the theater’s lights as the movie began playing.

Slogra leaned against Gaibon’s shoulder, and Gaibon mentally patted himself on the back for coming up with this idea.

The theater was showing Dracula, how could he have resisted?
