Chapter Text
Will Byers was focused. Focused on clearing his mind. He was hiding in the back of Muarry’s truck trying to help the only way he knew how. He didn’t particularly like the fact he was using the same vile tactic Vecna uses, but he loved using Vecna’s own powers against him. Every kill gave him a rush, a sense of satisfaction. And it felt all too natural. As if it was in his blood, although he would never admit that. It made him feel as if all he went through finally had a purpose. He sensed a demo around 7 feet away and killed it. The whole experience is exhilarating. He was soon pulled out of his trance by Mike.
His guard, his knight in shining armour, his fail safe. Will had honestly forgotten he was there, which is why he got slightly startled when Mike broke the ice. “Sorry, what was that?’” Will asked as his stomach dropped. They hadn’t had a proper conversation since his whole ‘Yeah everyone, congrats to those who placed bets, I’m a fairy!’ speech. “Who’s this Tammy guy?” Mike asks.
Oh God, it was quickly going from one of the best to worst moments of his life. ‘What?’ Will asks, although it wasn’t really a question. Mike, oblivious as ever, carried on. “Y’know, the guy from California. What was he like? What did he look like?” Will turned the Walkie-Talkie he was holding off. “Mike, I don't know what you’re trying to say. If you wanna chew me out I understand, but can’t it wait ’till after we save the world.” Mike furrowed his brows. “What? Chew you out? Why would I chew you out?” Will just lowered his head. “Mike” but Mike cuts him off. “I’m sorry Will. You seemed so” He struggled to find the exact word for a second. “Confident, when you told everyone that, y’know, you’re into guys, that you might wanna talk about them, after all I’ve talked your ear off about El for years.”
Will felt his muscles relax and a slight smile grew on him. “Sorry, sorry, I guess I’m just not used to people knowing my secret.” Will shrugged. “By the way, did you have to bring everyone?” Mike grinned. “Hey you said everyone. How was I supposed to know you didn’t mean everyone? I thought you would share a revelation about Vecna or something.” Will let out a little laugh. There was a moment of silence broken yet again by Mike. “I’m sorry by the way. I’m sorry you couldn’t tell me sooner.” Will was slightly taken a back “Mike.” He sighed. “I couldn’t tell anyone.” Mike wouldn’t accept this. “No, I’ve been an asshole the past year or so. I mean we used to tell each other everything. And a part of me kinda knew.” Mike pursed his lips. “And I guess, I don’t know, I wouldn’t be surprised if you thought I’d hate you or something.”
The last thing Will wants right now is for Mike to be the one apologising. He sensed a demo nearby and snapped it. Alright, maybe it’s a little satisfying. After all, Mike did put his mind through a different kind of hell for years, even if unintentional. But it’s still the same old Mike Wheeler. “Mike, be realistic. You guys are probably the three teenage boys in Indiana that wouldn’t hate me.” There was another brief moment of silence. “Hey, when we get out of this we could go to some big city or something. I hear they’re way cooler with stuff like that there.” Will was confused. Why does Mike know this stuff? “And hey, you’re kinda like Bowie.” He added. Will snorted. “You’re actually obsessed with him.” And he could barely make out Mike’s cheeks were flushing. Will's new powers were making him brave, so he carried on. “What with that hot orange mullet dream.’ Mike pushed his shoulder. “Who told you that?” Will snickered. “You think me and El don’t talk?”
The intimate moment was broken when the vans door flug open. The sound of roaring demogorgans and gunshots firing echoed throughout the van. “Mike! why the hell is your Walkie off?” Nancy bellowed. “Shit, I had no idea” Mike immediately started fiddling with the walkie-talkie. “Yeah well what we tried to tell you guys is that we need you to be making more bombs, can you do that Micheal?” Nancy sighed. “On it” Mike bounced to the other end of the van and started pulling apart boxes. “Sorry about the walkie.” Will said sincerely. “It’s fine. Thanks by the way.” Nancy said before grabbing a box of ammo and shutting the door shut. Pride began bubbling in Will. She obviously noticed the demogorgans folding in on themselves. The room fell quiet again. Mike was clearly busy, so Will had nothing better to do than expanding his reach into the hive. Since he can’t pinpoint Henry’s location as he’s definitely in his own mind he may as well kill more demos.
