Robert was in a bit of a pickle…it’s been a few months after the whole Shroud debacle and the Z-team has flourished into a pseudo family for the once group of ex villains. Coupe’ and Punch up even started dating again, with clearance from HR.
They all had the suggestion of doing a secret Santa and Robert somehow got the hardest one to give anything to: Sonar.
He apparently had two loves, Boobs and drugs. And no, he wasn’t getting any of those for the hybrid.
He had tried to ask his best friend Malevola when they were in the break room together and she could see right through him.
“I ain’t saying shit babes. Good luck though” she said waving him off as she opened a portal to somewhere, leaving him alone back to square one.
He had the weekend and a few days to decide as they agreed to do it at a separate function hall that Blazer had reserved under SDN use. Everyone was really excited except Robert who was still looking for something to give to the hybrid.
What do you give someone who has the ability to buy anything on a whim with just a few taps on his phone not worrying about prices?
Robert had gone to one of the fancier districts to get something for Sonar. The hybrid liked dressing up nicely but everything in the store was waaaay above their budget. Cologne was a good option but he would only get a small bottle from their allotted budget and they did have the option to go a little above it but they were heavily advised to stick to it, especially Sonar.
He was dejectedly walking around when he looked at one of the many fancy clothes stores in the street and he saw something intriguing. It was a sign advertising personalized tie clips, that can be made in store, they also offered other accessories such as pocket squares and cuff links. He thanked the stars as he went inside.
He was greeted by a posh looking man that almost resembled a butler that you see in old timey movies but he had a friendly aura compared to the snide ones he saw in shows and movies.
He inquired about the accessories being promoted and he smiled as they were actually offering a bundle for the accessories just for the day. He can choose the tie clip as the main accessory and get either the cuff links or a pocket square half off. The bundle was actually all the budget they had to use and Robert agreed and paid. He went over the options they had and found the perfect motif for the bat hybrid, he just hoped it was enough for them.
The day of their holiday party came and everyone came with high spirits and festive attire. The week had been pretty chill at the SDN and the calls they got were minor incidents at best. Booze were a plenty and Sonar actually had catering done for the party. He just rambled he had more money than he knew what to deal with while everyone just kept laying on the praise for his generosity. He’d have gotten red in the face if fur wasn’t covering it. The others pitched in for booze and other drinks so the night was pretty lively.
Prism handled the music and it was a good mix between chill vibes and party worthy beats. Flambé had brought his niece and she was so fiery like her uncle that the others found her adorable.
Finally it was time for their secret Santa gift exchange. Blazer started first but added a twist to their secret santa format. Each person had to describe the person they’re giving their gift to in three short descriptions and they had to guess who it was. The others booed and found it corny but the others thought it was fun.
Blazer got Invisigal and she described them as Brash, unapologetic and sneaky. It was pretty obvbut they still enjoyed. The gifts were exchanged except for the last two ones left at the table…apparently Sonar got Robert and obviously Robert got him. Robert was urged to go first.
“Do we still have to do the des-“
“Yes!” A chorus of people chided making the man sigh which gave the group a good chuckle.
“Ok well, he’s…tall, somewhat blind and-“
“Your describing his appearance!”
“That’s not how this works!”
The others jabbed making the man sigh again but did a do over.
“He’s pretty generous when he wants to be, he can be a bit weird at times but it’s kinda adorable really and he’s just pretty cool…I guess” Robert said looking at Sonar who was looking rather flustered. The others jeered and catcalled giving the two a bit of grief.
“Happy holidays Victor” Robert said handing over the small but beautifully wrapped present. Sonar opened it and his eyes widened, inside the small box was a tie clip with an enamel bat design, below it were bat themed cuff links that looked like they were made from black moonstone.
“Sorry they’re not-“
“I love them! So cool! Put them on me Bobert! Like right now!” Sonar said excitedly handing the box back to Robert.
“Oh ok” he said a little surprised at the reaction as he picked up the tie clip and reached for Sonar’s tie, the hybrid leaned into him with a wide smile and half lidded eyes. The room had gone quiet as everyone got out their phones to record the little exchange. They were hardcore rooting for them.
Robert did the cuff links too, taking out Sonar’s festive themed Christmas tree ones made from enamel and gems that were used as ornaments. They fit perfectly and Sonar presented them excitedly to everyone. He turned back to the man handing him a rather large gift.
“My turn! Well, He’s hardworking, sees the good in everything and everyone and…He’s pretty good looking too”
“Last one doesn’t count batboner!” Malevola teased making the others agree.
“Fiiine…He is though. Alright, he’s one of the reasons I go into work everyday” the room gushed while the others gagged. Cameras out again as Sonar gave Robert an extremely large box that felt like it was waaaay over budget and it was. He got an espresso machine, a set of dinner ware and a bottle of cologne that Robert saw in one of the shops he went to that was easily triple the budget they set in place.
Robert sputtered as he unwrapped each gift looking at the hybrid with shock and a rejection ready on his tongue.
“Don’t even think about it Robbie, these are yours and you can’t give them back. No returns no exchanges” Sonar said with a smug grin as the others nodded along. They continued to party throughout the night.
Robert stepped outside for some air in the chilly weather, he was surprised when Sonar followed him out too.
“Need air too?” Robert asked as he leaned against the wall outside the building.
“Eh, Yeah, was getting a little overstimulated in there. Pleasantly buzzed though” sonar said leaning against the building as well. Robert just nodded as he breathed in the cold air.
“Thanks for all the stuff by the way, I had a feeling you went waaay over budget, can’t say I’m surprised” the man said turning a little towards the hybrid, seeing them look smug with a smirk on his snout.
“That’s nothing Rob, I really do like these. You even had the backs engraved with my Initials” Victor said looking at the man as well.
They stood there for a few more minutes just enjoying the cool weather. A few others came out as well. They looked at the two and gave knowing looks at each other.
“You guys didn’t notice that when you got outside?” Malevola said with a little chuckle pointing above where the two stood. They looked up at the same time and there it was a sprig of mistletoe tied with a red ribbon.
“Ohhh this will do wonders on my social numbers” Prism said whipping out her phone along with the others.
“Haha very funny guys we-“ Robert was trying to scold them when he felt a hand on his chin turning his face towards the side. He didn’t have much time to react as Sonar dove in, pressing his snout against Robert’s lips.
He was startled at first but he melted into the kiss as he reached out taking Victor’s tie and pulling them closer. He could feel the hybrid smile against his lips as they turned their head slightly slotting in their mouths a little more.
“Get yo man Babes!” Malevola said said with a smirk as the others began to tease them too.
“I knew you were a bitch Robert! Now your Sonar’s bitch!” Flambae said grinning at the two as Prism recorded, wrote and posted the little moment on all her socials in a matter of seconds.
They pulled away and Sonar pulled the man against him , using his arm to shield him from the others, Roberts flustered face was too adorable to share with those hacks…well maybe not Mal but whatever.
“You had your fun, go on leave us in peace” Victor said leveling them all a look.
They retreated still jeering at the two and Malevola looked back and gave Victor a wink and a thumbs up.
Sonar was surprised when Robert put his arms around him seeing the tips of his ears turned red. He just held the man tighter before Robert pulled away looking up at the hybrid with a small smile.
“Thanks Vic, Merry Christmas”
“Anytime Rob, Merry Christmas to you too, oh look mistletoe” he said cheekily with a smirk. Robert shook his head but reached up to meet the hybrid halfway as the kissed again for the second time that night…certainly not the last though.
