Chapter Text
Velgearians don't die with time.
Not the way humans do.
They can grow, they can age, they can change, but die? No it's not that simple.
Yudias had lived through centuries.
Watched eras rise and fall, seen men tear each other apart, and fought tirelessly for peace.
All so that one day he could see Yuhi and Yuamu again. His beloved siblings, not by blood but by something stronger.
Choice.
And after so many years of longing and wistful hopes he had finally gotten to hold them again.
And oh, how he had wept.
They hadn't changed, hadn't aged a day since he saw them last because for them no time had past at all.
But for him?
For him it had been lifetimes.
Lifetimes that passed in the blink of an eye.
Yudias was no fool.
He knew by then that humans age quickly and fade from time just as fast.
He would only get a few brief decades with the twins before having to say goodbye to them.
It was a heavy truth he carried in the back of his heart, but one he refused to let poison what brief time he did have with his brother and sister.
Oh, how he longed to slow that time down, to give even a fraction of his lifespan to the Oudou twins.
But nature doesn't bend to the whims of mortal men, human or otherwise.
Time marched forwards and as always, it took.
Yuhi and Yuamu grew into fine adults.
They both found love, married, and brought children into the world.
The tears he shed holding their children for the first time was a vivid memory no matter how much time passed.
Soon he would weep again, joyfully as he held their grandchildren.
And soon his cries of joy would turn mournful as he was forced to bid farewell to the first true family he had ever really known.
The grief of losing the twins was thick and potent and hollowing. He had known this was coming. Had tried so hard to brace himself for this end, yet no amount of preparation could ever really mask the true extend of such loss.
Of such pain.
Yet he still found himself with purpose.
He had long ago embraced the last name Oudou and long been accepted as a member of the family. By Yuhi, by Yuamu, by their children, and their children's children.
The twins were gone but the family they left behind remained.
For generations Yudias watched over the Oudou family.
Watched them grow, watched them marry, watched over the young and buried the old.
Watched time warp rush dueling into Goha duels, watched Mutsuba Town slowly be choked out and consumed by Goha City, watched the eras change.
He knew this was coming.
He remembered the stories Yuhi and Yuamu had told him.
Remembered the future Yuga had tried desperately to change.
Yuga.
That poor little thing.
At the time Yudias hadn't fully grasped just how young Yuga had been. How alone he must have felt.
It is one of his biggest regrets, letting that child brace the world on his shoulders and walk down a road he shouldn't have ever had to face.
But now he had a chance to right that wrong.
Time kept ticking forward and through it all Yudias was there with every Oudou.
It would not be long now until Yuga would be born.
And this time Yudias would be there.
To watch over him, protect him, shield him.
Should he be changing fate? Probably not.
Did he care? No, he never had.
Not when it came to his family.
And he knew, he knew, Yuhi and Yuamu would feel the same way.
They too once stared the future in the face and defied it.
A legacy Yudias would gladly embrace.
A shrill cry drew him out of his thoughts and Yudias found himself sitting up straight.
"You did so well Himari," his voice as soft and gentle as he praised his great neice, "he's beautiful."
The new little one wailed loudly, a strong a healthy set of lungs on him that alerted the world that he was here.
"Do you have a name for him?"
"...Yuga."
