Work Text:

Fresh out of the academy, new police officer Sawamura Daichi couldn’t be more proud. Proud for the obvious reasons: his education, his community, but most of all, his amazing boyfriend.

Proud of Suga because dating a new police officer is rough. Daichi’s department works in twelve hour shifts, meaning that, because he’s the newbie, he works 4pm-4am, which is the exact opposite of Suga’s 730am-5pm teaching job. They never see each other except for on Daichi’s days off, which (of course) are never on the weekends, and even then Suga has at-home grading, Daichi needs to give his body a rest, but they never let it get in the way of their love.

Daichi’s post-work routine is as follows:

Get home, hazardly throw his coat in the corner and kick off his shoes in a way that would disappoint his mother. Quietly speed walk to the bedroom. Only creek the door open wide enough for him to barely fit through to not get light in Suga’s eyes. Kiss sleeping Suga’s forehead, whisper “I love you.”

Get undressed. Make sure clothes are in the hamper. Get everything he needs to shower. Kiss Suga’s forehead, whisper “I love you.”

Take a shower. Wash away the horrors of the night and remember the feel-good moments. Get dressed. Clean up the bathroom. Kiss Suga’s forehead, whisper “I love you.”

Go back into the entry-way. Put jacket on the rack. Tidy up shoes. Make Suga’s bento box. Write “iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou” over and over again in the smallest handwriting on a post it note, front and back, and seal it with a kiss.

Go to bed. Set alarm. Try not to cry thinking about how Suga fell asleep without him and he’ll wake up without Suga. Wrap arms around Suga. Hold him so tight he might wake up. Kiss his neck and whisper, “I love you.”

When he wakes up, he’s not sure if he’s actually awake. Because Suga is still in his arms. And that can’t be right. He normally wakes up around ten before falling back asleep. So either, it’s before six or he isn’t actually awake and this is a dream.

But Daichi knows it’s not a dream when Suga wakes, wiggles out of his grasp, turns around, kisses his chin and whispers, “I love you too.”

“I love you more,” Daichi replies automatically. “How much longer do we have until you have to get ready?”

Suga smiles, wraps his arms around Daichi’s neck, and burrows into his chest. “I don’t. School called earlier, snow day.”

Daichi perks up. “Snow day? Seriously? As in, you’re going to be home? And I’m going to be home? And we’re going to be home?”

“We’re going to be home.”
