Work Header

A son's forgiveness of his father.

Summary:

(All of this takes place after the events of the last comic.)

After inviting Spy to his house to spend time with the children, Jeremy (Scout) offers Spy a drink. Bottle after bottle, half-drunk, Spy finally decides to confess what's been weighing on him so much... To his surprise, his secret wasn't as secret as he thought.

Notes:

This is written more from my perspective, as someone with parental issues. I was never really able to bring myself to hate my father. I just couldn't. I wanted to put some of that into Scout because the whole "oh, he doesn't know that Spy is his dad" thing is somewhat similar to my situation.
Personally, I think Scout DID know Spy was her father, and that she always knew it, so some of my interpretation of that goes into it.

Also, I wrote this in Spanish and then translated it. Please excuse any grammatical errors or if I don't quite capture how the characters usually speak. :'b

Enjoy. (◠‿・)—☆

Work Text:

One day Jeremy invites Spy to spend time with the children.

Night falls, the children are asleep, they are alone, and Jeremy invites him for drinks.

Between drinks, the drunkenness sets in... and secrets come out. Spy confesses. He's Jeremy's father.

"I know. I always knew it." Jeremy replies.

"How?" Spy asks, genuinely surprised.

"It was obvious. Not only did I know it, but the whole team did... for some reason."

"You thought Tom Jones was your father.."

"I didn't. I was just lying to myself... more. I always knew it was you, even my Ma confirmed it one day. I never dared to say anything."

"I.. I'm sorry" Spy gripped the glass tightly in his hand, lowering his gaze. After so long, he was finally gathering the strength to confess, and not only did Jeremy already know, but he'd always held back from saying anything.

"I know you do. I mean, you abandoned me, and it hurts, but I don't really know why you abandoned me. I hate you, but I hate myself for hating you. It's weird."

"Being around your children made me realize my mistake.. They are so sweet..."

"I'll take that as a compliment."

"... I'm sorry..." he repeated.

"..." Jeremy was silent for a moment. So many desperate years, so much time without being able to say much, so much time wondering if he was the problem, so much time watching how his supposed father didn't act like one, but instead treated him as a burden. And still.. After so many years... He can't hate him.

"I forgive you, old man. Don't be so hard on yourself."

"Hey... Show more respect to your father."

"Oh, shut up..." Jeremy laughed.

More bottles, more drinks.

At the end of the night, they both ended up on the living room, sitting on the sofa. Jeremy had fallen asleep, he was leaning on Spy's shoulder. Spy hugged him, closing his eyes, finally forgiving himself for the mistakes of his past,

"I love you, son." He whispered.

""Shut up, Dad..." Jeremy whispered back.
