Chapter Text
Apollo bursts through Simon’s office door, almost breaking the door off the hinges. Simon sat at his desk typing away on his computer, slightly startled at why his brother-in-law was coming into his office so violently. “SIMON SADMADHI, BLACKQUILL,” He yelled as he marched up to the desk and slammed his hands on the wood, his eyes locked in on Simon’s. “YOU GOT MY SIBLING PREGNANT?” Ah, so that's what he wanted to know about Simon, thought. Simon decided that he wanted to be an ass today and mess with the short man, at least for a little bit.
“Well, Justice, when two people love each other very much—” Apollo cut him off. “I know how babies are made; I asked you a question,” he exclaimed angrily.
Simon sighed; he figured Apollo was going to be one of the first people Nahyuta told when they found out they were pregnant, but he was not expecting this reaction. Apollo was at their wedding for crying out loud, and he didn’t have any objections. Why couldn’t he wrap his head around the two of them having a child together? “Yes, who else would have gotten my spouse pregnant?” Simon questions. Apollo seemed to calm down slightly.
"Obviously you; it's just hard to believe."
Simon smirked and crossed his arms. “What? Hard to believe I fucked your sibling?”
“Ew, don’t be gross. I mean, it’s hard to believe that it’s really happening, you know. I never thought I’d see the day that Yuta would make their own family.” That was something Simon could relate to. He himself for a while never thought he would live long enough to find someone to settle down with, let alone have a child with, but his spouse gave him hope in more ways than one.
Apollo spoke up again, “I don’t know, it’s kind of a lot to process. When Yuta texted me the news this morning, I was in shock and also angry that I didn’t give you more of a shovel talk before the wedding, and now you two are having a kid together. If I knew you two were planning on having a kid, I would have been harder on you. So you better take care of both of them and your future kid or else!”
Simon smiled, because the amount of love Apollo had for the people he cared for was truly admirable, but he was also glad Apollo didn’t use more of his ‘Cords of Steel’ on him before his wedding. Apollo didn't present any real threat to him anyway, besides how loud he was. “Cross my heart and hope to die if I cause either of them any harm.”
“Good!” And with that, Apollo made his way out of Simon's office, slamming the door on the way out, probably going towards Klavier's office to bother him. Leaving Simon alone in his office, he turned to look at the photo on the far right of his desk, picking it up to have a closer look. The photo was of him and Nahyuta on their wedding day. It was hard to believe they had been married for six or seven months already. The wedding was in Khura'in; it was truly a beautiful day. The weather was perfect, and Nahyuta’s hair was beautifully decorated with various local flowers, and he wore a heavily embroidered white regal sherwani and a long coat. Simon wore a black tux with slight embroidery to match. Life hasn’t changed much since that day; they bought a house together, and recently Nahyuta discovered that they were five weeks pregnant.
Simon found out last night; Nahyuta stayed home from work for the day because they were experiencing an insane stomach bug. The stomach bug turned out to be their first child. When Simon came back from prosecuting a rather tiring case that day, he was pleasantly surprised when Nahyuta sat him down on the couch and showed him the positive pregnancy test, along with the ultrasound from the appointment they had that day. Simon hugged his lover so hard that they needed to remind him not to squeeze too hard since his kid was inside them.
That was pretty late at night, and Nahyuta went to bed pretty soon after telling him, so they must’ve texted their brother this morning about the news, but considering that Nahyuta was still asleep when Simon left for work, and it was almost the end of the workday, Apollo could have figured it out an hour ago for all he knows. Simon put the photo back on the desk and tried to continue his work, but his mind was distracted by the giddy thought that he was going to be a father soon. Looking back, he could probably track the moment when Nahyuta became pregnant; it was after they had a particularly long and draining case, and Simon thought they should celebrate, and they talked about having children, they weren't activity trying for a kid but, whenever they slept together since getting married, they haven’t been using a condom. That night where they celebrated the end of that case was also the last time they slept with each other since work continued to be as draining as ever afterwards. So it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that’s when their child was conceived.
Simon was able to concentrate for a little while longer before deciding to go home for the night. Arriving home, he found Nahyuta wearing a white tank top and green sweatpants, sitting on the couch with their laptop before they set it down on the coffee table to greet him with a hug by the front door.
“Welcome back, my love,” Nahyuta said as they wrapped their arms around Simon’s neck and moved up for a kiss. Simon returned the kiss while wrapping his hands around Nahyuta’s waist. Breaking the kiss and moving apart, Simon went to set his keys on the key hook and his jacket on the coat hanger that was next to the door, while Nahyuta went into the kitchen, fetching something to drink. Simon followed his spouse, also entering the kitchen.
“So what did you do today?” Simon asked as he leaned against the counter while Nahyuta looked through the fridge.
“Not much; I slept until noon and was instantly hit with nausea when I awoke. Then I tried doing some yoga, and after that I started looking at baby cribs, clothes, and food recommendations. So a pretty calm day.” They then lifted their head from the fridge, grabbing a fruit smoothie to drink. Nahyuta came to the counter next to Simon to mix it and pour it into a glass cup with a pink straw.
“Is that so? Did any of the baby items stand out to you?”
“There were a few cute shirts and a really nice changing table, but nothing else called my name,” they answered while taking a sip of their drink, which was meant to help with the nausea while maintaining the nutrients they needed for both them and the baby. “I think I'm going to try to go back into the office tomorrow.”
This was intriguing to Simon considering how sick the pregnancy was making Nahyuta. “Are you sure you’ll be able to get anything done?”
“I’m quite positive. I wish to accomplish some work before taking a leave of absence. Additionally, for the most part I’m only sick in the beginning of the morning, so as long as I go to work later in the morning I should be fine,” they said, waving Simon off with their right hand.
Simon lifted an eyebrow. “And how are you going to get to work when you can’t carpool with me because I’ll have to go to work earlier than you, and you can’t drive?”
Nahyuta pouted slightly, “I can take an Uber and carpool back with you. Simple as that.” Nahyuta then began to walk out of the kitchen and back into the living room with Simon following behind. Sitting back at their spot on the couch, Simon sitting next to them. “Speaking of work, I need to plan how I’ll handle my trials while pregnant and we need to plan our paternity leaves.” Simon had to agree; Nahyuta had mentioned how both times when their mother was pregnant, she had extreme morning sickness for most of the pregnancy, more with Nahyuta than Rayfa. So it could be expected for Nahyuta to experience something similar.
Simon put a hand on his chin. “I am curious about how you plan on handling your trials.”
Nahyuta gave the man a sneaky smile. “I’ll pray to the holy mother for nothing before nine.”
Simon just gave them a look. “I’m kidding. I will have to talk to the chief about talking to the judges of the cases assigned to me and accommodate by having later trials. Once I’m further along, around the third trimester, I will probably just work on backlogs and file organization.” That seemed logical to Simon; he wouldn’t want to argue with a witness 7 months pregnant. Nahyuta had more patience than him, but even they could get irritated.
Nahyuta turned on the couch so they could lay their back on Simon's chest while he leaned on. “Oi, that reminds me, you forgot to tell me your due date before you fell asleep last night,” Simon asked when he got comfortable. “Oh right, January 25th, which is only a month and 1 day after Rayfas,” the monk explained.
“Speaking of your wonderful sister,” Simon said with a colorful tone, “have you told the rest of your family of this recent development?”
Nahyuta sighed, “Not yet, but hopefully soonish. The queen has talked about us visiting them soon, but I’m not sure if I want to deal with a plane right now, and I’m not sure how easy it will be for my family to find the time off to visit us.” Simon forgot Nahyuta mentioned visiting Khura'in soon; the baby news definitely overshadowed everything else going on.
“That makes sense,” he said.
“I have brought it up to the doctor during my appointment, and she conveyed that it would be wise to wait until I’m at least fourteen weeks along before getting on a plane. The second trimester is allegedly the best time to travel, but I don’t want to wait so long to tell them, but if I have to, I guess I will,” Nahyuta finished.
Simon groaned, “That reminds me I should tell Aura soon.”
“Oh, wait until we find out the sex of the baby, then we can tell her if she’s going to have a nephew or niece. We should know in a week or so,” Nahyuta smiled, and Simon agreed that it would be a good idea. As they cuddled on the couch, the two of them kept talking about how life will be while preparing for the baby. They eventually circled back to how they’re going to organize their paternity leave. They’ll have to talk to Edgeworth soon enough about it, but Nahyuta doesn’t want to be super open about the news yet, mostly keeping it to close family. So they are slightly dreading the meeting that will have to happen with their shared boss. Nahyuta shared that they were going to try to hide the pregnancy for as long as they can, mostly because they don’t want to hear any comments from people being stupid, especially in court. They don’t care too much, but if they can avoid it, they will. Considering how slim they are, Simon thinks they can hide it for a while too, but a part of him is slightly saddened that his lover feels they need to hide their child, but he understands. Simon just hopes when the prosecutor's office eventually finds out about Nahyuta being pregnant, the Paynes don’t say anything idiotic.
Simon still can’t believe that he’s going to be having a child with the love of his life. He wonders what the future kid will look like; they’ll probably have Nahyuta’s brown skin, although probably not as dark, and Simon's black hair. He wonders if the baby will have more of Nahyuta’s grace or his gruffness. Only time will tell, and Simon couldn’t wait for the day of January 25th to come.
