Autumn Woodland

Summary:

Butch and Peter are staying at Iris's plant shop, an attempt for Butch to get o know his godly mother. Unfortunately even a godly mother has the inate ability to interrupt their child and their child's partner, so to spend time together they must escape to the woodlands surrounding the shop

Notes:

I wrote this a while ago, forgot to post it, and also forgot to pre-prepare my usual ao3 stuff (something I normal attempt to do) so yay
I am mildly dyslexic so you've been warned, there's probably some silly errors ahead
Enjoy :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Butch knew he was being followed through the woodland. He may not have Peter's super hearing, or Percy's killer instinct, or Annabeth's innate ability to tell if something was up and needed a plan, but he knew when he was being followed. He also knew that he was in no danger.

He'd only trekked out into the woodland surrounding his mother's shop to bask in the beauty of autumn. The orange and brown leaves, the wildlife starting to scatter for winter, it was a sight he did not get to enjoy. Camp was spring time year round, and when he did venture from camp for New York City there wasn't exactly much in the way of nature.

His follower had the same idea. There were, after all, only so many nights he could spend on the roof admiring the stars. There were only so many nights he could pretend he didn't want to be attached to Butch at the hip.

Don't get them wrong, their relationship was perfectly healthy. They were just a tad obsessed with each other when given the opportunity. An opportunity which had not presented itself under the watchful eye of Butch's godly parent, and her assistant.

Butch could've done the polite thing, and invited Peter into the woods with him. But there wasn't much fun in that.

Peter could've done the sneaky thing, and kept himself quieter than a mouse, and entirely hidden. But there wasn't much fun in that either.

Butch knew Peter was there. Someone, lurking in the trees above, Peter was there watching over him, waiting for the perfect moment to drop in. Any moment, Peter could decide to descend from the trees, and appear.

Still, Butch kept walking. The woodland was beautiful, the fallen leaves the autumn colours, he wished he could see it more often.

Overhead he heard a branch snap, followed by a strangled yelp he was familiar with. Butch started laughing before Peter even came into view.

From the trees above Peter appeared, hanging upside down from a branch he'd managed to latch a web onto as to catch himself from crashing to the woodland floor. Butch smiled at him as Peter readjusted.

"That was intentional," Peter claimed. Butch shook his head at Peter.

"You intended to step on a weak branch and fall?" Butch asked, quirking his head to the side just slightly. Peter pouted at him, and Butch's heart fluttered just barely in his chest. The wind picked up around them, and the rustling of the leaves sent several falling off the branches to land around them.

"I intended to appear upside down in front of you," he settled on. Butch nodded, and decided against pointing out that Peter had probably intended to draw it out a little more. He'd probably wanted to appear more elegantly too.

Butch stepped forward, closing as much of the gap between as he could. Peter was just below eye level, their lips level instead. He'd planned that, Butch knew he had. He smiled slightly at his boyfriend.

"Hello," Butch said. Peter laughed softly, the sound warming his heart.

"Heya," Peter echoed, giving Butch a lopsided grin.

"Come here often?" he asked. Peter laughed again, and a still awake bird chirped in response.

"Nah, just thought I'd drop by," he said. It was Butch's turn to laugh then, and Peter grinned at him.

"You're after something," Butch accused lightly. Peter nodded, not trying to deny it.

"Do you know how awkward it is trying to kiss you when your mum is right around the corner talking about super foods?" Peter asked. Butch sighed, but nodded. Iris was a master at interrupting them, as it had turned out. Even godly mothers seemed to choose the most inopportune moments to barge in on their child and their child's partner.

Butch lifted his hands to Peter's face, and gently cupped his cheeks. He'd gotten used to the position, it wasn't uncommon for Spider-Man to drop by upside down seeking out a quick chat and a kiss on quieter patrol nights. The only difference there in the woodland was the lack of mask Butch had to roll out the way.

Peter leaned in slightly, and Butch closed the rest of the gap. Their lips slotted together, ad Butch hummed slightly against him. Peter echoed the sound.

This, Butch decided, was what autumn was about. Enjoying nature, in all the ways he could. And having Peter with him only made the whole thing better.
