Work Text:
The early dawn light streams into the room as Robby’s snores echo from the bed. The door sits ajar as Dennis waddles towards a door down the hall. He tries to keep his footsteps light as to not wake the sleeping man but his tired huffs echo in the quiet hallway. Why did he have to get with a man of Robby’s stature? He can barely see his feet and he’s only pushing six months.
Holding onto the door, he turns the doorknob and pushes into the room. Tarp lays on the floor with yellow paint buckets sitting near the door and a crib sits in the middle of the room. As he moves into the room, he glances around at what will soon be the nursery for their baby. It barely feels real, he can feel tears welling up thinking about it. He has to sit down.
Moving as slow as possible, he moves to sit on the tarp but sitting makes his back hurt. He quickly moves to lay down but he shouldn’t be laying down on his back. He rolls to his side to stare at the crib and out the window.
It feels like time was moving fast, it is like he was hitting his first month of pregnancy not even a week ago but nope. They are picking out baby names now, getting ready for a baby shower and getting the nursery ready. He’s a month away from the third trimester.
He’s happy, he’s really happy actually. Robby is the best guy he’s ever dated and the sweetest man ever. He’s always wanted to have a kid and while the baby came at a terrible time, a bit into his first year of residency, they have the PTMC Daycare to help them. Dennis places a hand on his belly, rubbing over the bump casually.
He’s lost in thought about the future when the door opens more.
“What are you doing?” Robby says, amused at the sight of his boyfriend laying on the floor.
It’s a cute sight, Dennis is laying in Robby’s sweatpants and his shirt shows a peak of his bump as the shirt stretches over it. Robby loves when Dennis has his bump out.
“Nothing… thinking.” Dennis muses.
“I woke up and wondered where you went.” Robby takes the few steps to stand behind Dennis.
“You’re always worried about me.” Dennis laughs as he turns his head to look up at Robby.
“Of course I worry about you.” Robby rolls his eyes at Dennis’ laughter. “I don’t want to lose my pregnant boyfriend.”
“How can you lose me when we’re both in the house?”
“Well…” Robby trails off as he has no retort. His bones groan as he bends down to lay next to Dennis, loosely wrapping an arm around his middle. “What were you thinking about?”
“Everything.” Dennis smiles and brings Robby’s hand up to his mouth to kiss. “I can’t wait to have this baby.”
“Yeah, I can tell from how you’re laying on the floor.”
“My feet got tired standing in here… then my back hurt when I sat down…” Dennis shakes his head as he snorts. “We can move back to the bed if you want?”
Robby sighs with a grin. “We can stay here, My Love.”
“Okay…” Dennis stays quiet for a minute, comfortable in the silence of the room. “Actually, let me rephrase my question. I want to go back to bed.” That gets a loud cackle out of Robby, placing a kiss against Dennis’ cheek.
“Okay, Den.”
It only takes them five minutes to get Dennis back on his feet.
