Work Text:

She was the first to discover the body lying in the pink grass, surrounded by nothing more than craters of magic and many axes sprawled out where they stood, nothing remained of what might be considered identification, yet she knew well enough who this had been even before she looked over the body.

Mumei and Fauna certainly knew if their own loss of breath was anything to go by and she couldn’t even explain why she was so broken up inside without looking like a crazy person; because why would a human of all people know anything about Chaos?

Yet there was no time for any of them as more reinforcements appeared out of nowhere reminding them of where they were and what they were made to do since joining this crusade of Amelia’s.

They had to go and pull Amelia from the fire of her own emotions as a scream split the air and she was off towards the nearest enemy as they followed after her to keep her from killing herself accidentally.

Hakos Baelz was the last kind of person who might find herself on the run from any human authority and yet there she was out on the pink grass of the Candy Kingdom as she left the town in the dust along with a contingent of the thieves that had come to pillage their town, burn their crops, and poison their water supplies.

If anyone was going to be stealing from anyone else in this scenario it was going to be her as she had so politely slipped her hands through the pockets of these thugs and made way with what would be enough for these scum of the earth to slip away from pillaging her own home and after the rat.

They didn’t truly have much, not even the oh so precious ticket they thought she had stolen on her way out of town, but the chase came not from the value of her items but rather the slight that was an actual thief taking them to lunch as a bunch of brigands were not fast enough to catch her as she ran onto the open plains.

Men of their caliber had nothing nice to say and nothing worth noting so she tuned it out as she noticed the nice bridge crossing that would make for her escape instead of heading further into Candy Kingdom territory and right smack dab into the Pekoland’s army that would love to make an example of all of them.

A north and south crossing existed for her to run towards with no real difference between the two and yet something was telling her to avoid heading north this time and she had no real reason not to trust her gut on this life and death decision; why should she after all when she had no clue what had happened one whole timeline ago?

Thus it was her choice to head south towards the one that she had a good feeling about as she heard the sound of footsteps chasing after her as they finally put their little chaos behind them as she turned around to get a lay of the land on the brigands that were signing their lives away by chasing after the embodiment of Chaos.

Armed with nothing but axes she would’ve been laughing if she wasn’t painfully aware of the nature of chaos and how if it wanted something to happen it just would no matter her own desires; such as the method to which she had created the tome of condensed Chaos disguised as magic which she was about to unleash on the bastard right in front of her.

Because he had dared to sink an axe into her flesh as she needed to get revenge for the town itself and those hurt by their actions; no surrender would be given for these killers on her end and she could see the moment of realization appear upon that fucker as she launched what was going to be her tool of revenge in her arsenal.

Rat Magic.

Perhaps, to any simple rube, nothing more than a tome only she might know as part of some great heritage she totally had because of her ability to create fully unique magic that would not be replicated by anyone else. But to those in the know about her actual reputation nothing could be further than the truth as she removed that gnat upon her person from the board with nothing more than a flick of the wrist.

She was happy to send them down to the underworld yet despite her power there was the very visible proof that she could bleed just like the rest of them so they would keep coming for her even as she drank from her Vulnerary and taunted them to continue coming after her just as she had sent that little leader of theirs straight to hell; asking for all offers she certainly had takers.

And she found them all wanting as she dared to dance the tango with the brigands carried by their boss she had sent to Calli’s little playground as she found the bridge to the south closer and closer as she parried the attention of these men that did not know when to take no for an answer as the traces of chaos would show later on.

Her bridge to freedom was right there for her as she thought to leave the rest of these thieves behind her, it was to be something of a clean escape as she lead them somewhere the local monsters might appreciate her passing by along with an offering to nature as they continued to chase after her while she drank once more from that life saving nectar.

Although she was quite certain Civilization had been the one to discover this instead of coming from Nature…

She could certainly ask them!

Because while she paid some attention to the axe wielding woman, someone she would have to keep an eye on, and the bird in their midsts, who she saw towards the back of this little party of strangers was enough to have her confused as she ran into their own journey further into the belly of the beast that was the currently occupied Candy Kingdom.

Despite the screams of pain coming from the spearman that had apparently been on their side of the bridge before she could run into him she was pulled into the cover provided by those two on the frontlines as she very hurriedly was dragged into the midsts of her fellow concepts as the brigands that had been following her the misfortune of crashing straight into both the slim woman and her avian companion.

She was rather quick to become caught up to speed on their little suicidal mission in need of a little chaos of their own which she supposed she might as well do as this war was bad for everyone from the village, but beyond that she would settle into a compact with her fellow concepts soon enough as they all followed the command of…

Was she alright?

Crying maidens were never a pretty sight and yet she could see the tears forming at the corners of the oddly dressed maiden as she found herself as the focus of attention, and she did a quick double take along with her fellow concepts at the emotional display coming from their ‘lord’ at someone they were damn well sure she had never seen in her life.

And yet…

“Bae!”

Notes:

A bit of a shorter one because beyond the time where Bae decided to kill herself by never criting when she really needed to who the hell needs me to write 'oh Bae gets hit, crits another axe man, and drinks from her vulnerary for a third time'?

There actually is supposed to be no difference between running north or south as I know from my first run of this map where she actually crit and she reached help but this time she decided to fail to crit when drinking the vulnerary would not give her enough health to survive multiple attacks.

(Ignore the fact she actually crit everyone this time)

Rat magic has a base crit chance of 45, Bae is alone giving her a base +10 crit and she has crit at base of skill*1.5 giving her around 60+ on chapter 3 of all maps, she really should've crit one of those enemies if not for typical fire emblem shenanigans.

Now In defense of calling her washed.

(1/1/26) So bae is actually a mage built with the speed of a thief meaning, Mumei is still better because she, actually has access to swords and thievery, she generally has a worse magic stat than Reine who is supposed to have a high stat for the early game or Risu who joins chapter 6. Not to mention some of the projects/other mages that join you despite being lower level than bae might be.

Bae can become a dancer if you get to 'A' with Suisei but the involves passing up on the 'Suicopath' from completing Miko's support which, wouldn't you know it, gives Suisei about 60 crit rate on a class that can actually use it to melt enemies as she should.

(of course Suisei actually falls off pass chapter 9 in favor of Marine who is literally just better Suisei but we don't talk about that)

(or the fact that dancers are better than a character than can basically become benched after recruiting Marine where as Bae as a dancer would never leave your team, but what are we, a bunch of metagamers?)

Bae can still of course be useful for a good wipe of an enemy that gives you trouble because of crits ignoring defense, as I would know, but those dice man.

Story wise Amelia can have already given the game away to someone else if she recruits Fauna (on the first fucking chapter), because she actually knows her name as a human (blame it on timeline shenanigans), and does the same thing if she is the one to recruit Bae.

Geez... I sure do wonder why Amelia keeps having all these feelings of people she knows dying.
