Work Text:
“Mike?”
Will opens his eyes. He is in an unfamiliar place; he is in a place with…holes? Many holes. Plot holes.
His hand rises to his neck. Visions flood his brain; his head fills with questions.
Why was Will the one chosen by Vecna? Why did Vecna want kids? What happened to Linda Hamilton? Why was the painting never addressed? Are Derek’s parents still wasting away in the barn?
He struggles over to the hole consisting of Mike’s inability to hug Will in season four.
Suddenly, the ground breaks open. Two men crawl through the opening.
“You aren’t supposed to question it,” the more evil-looking of the two says.
The divorced one says, “You see, we tricked all of you into thinking we are competent writers. You will be hap-satisfied with ‘epilogue boyfriend,’ and when you notice the cracks, you will look the other way.”
Will starts to panic.
“No!” He yells. “I won’t let you do this. I won’t let you queerbait!”
The gay one laughs. “It’s too late. You’ve already lost.
Then, Will Byers sees Jesus. Or, he thinks he does. The sky lights up blue.
“Mike!” He shouts again, but this time, he was really there.
Mike doesn’t reply before shooting the Duffers with a gun.
They kiss and byler endgame. Huzzah.
