Streams of beautiful light streamed in through the window and the birds chirped lovely melodies to signal that it was a new day! It was a gorgeous day of bright blue sky and warm rays of sunshine. What could Gumball and Darwin do on such an amazing day? They could play outside! Go to the mall! Darwin would usually be the first to appreciate such a nice day and take the opportunity to do something fun with his best friend. Unfortunately right now he really just wanted to sleep.
Like come on, it was the weekend! People should get to sleep in. But instead the sun was hitting his face and it was bright and hot and the birds were way too loud and ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. He rolled over to his other side in a measly attempt at hiding from the light, grumbling tired nonsense, and scrunched his eyes tight. He hoped he could get back to sleep, it was honestly unfair that the one time he didn’t need to get up early, it naturally happened. However it soon became clear that it wasn’t going to happen, so he accepted his fate and sat up with little resistance.
Welp, time to wake up Gumball. Darwin reached over to grip his brother’s shoulders with the intent of aggressively shaking him awake. Then he paused.
Maybe he should be a little nice today. It was a Saturday morning after all, there was no reason to get up early. And Gumball had been nice to him last night. Not even once had Darwin woken up in the middle of the night to his brother having kicked him off the bed. And believe him, that was impressive. Plus, time went on. He’d get another chance to torment his dear brother awake. He could afford to be sweet today. He laid back down next to him.
“Gumball,” Darwin whispered to the sleeping boy. “Guuuuuumballlll,” He dragged out the name as he pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek. He knew that affection was the way to go, Gumball was a sucker for it, it was why he liked cuddling so much. But alas, despite his calls his brother did not awaken from his deep slumber, instead he opted to continue drooling into Darwin’s shirt. Ew, why did he love this guy again.
Well, while he hadn’t woken up, he did shuffle closer, mumbling something before tangling their legs together and bringing his chest flush against his, which was kinda cute he supposed. Gumball arms were also wrapped around him now. He liked that, it felt nice. Loving. And the way he practically nuzzled him was absolutely adorable. Alright, Darwin forgave him. He was still awake though…
Nothing Darwin couldn’t fix however!
“Gumballllllll,” He continued, kissing his nose this time. “Gumball,” A kiss to his forehead. “Gumball,” Darwin whispered once again, more insistently this time whilst giving him a proper kiss, right on the lips. Aaaaaaaand absolutely nothing!
Enough was enough. It was time for… The Ultimate Attack!!! (Read in deep, scary voice please :D)
He cupped his face and smothered the boy in kisses. Every inch of his face and even down his neck. Nowhere was safe. Darwin even took it up a notch and reached his hands into Gumball’s hair to play with it and rub his scalp.
And soon enough, after many, many kisses, his efforts were rewarded as his brother started to laugh himself awake from the ticklishness of it all. Dawww, he was so cute! All smiley and flushed, eyes twinkling with amusement continued to giggle (Yes, giggle. Darwin was forever going to remind him of this moment. It would absolutely wreck him when he found out.) at the onslaught of affection.
Then Gumball gripped his face. He thought it was simply an attempt at stopping his brutal attack but then he began to lean in. And as he pressed a long, gentle kiss to his lips, Darwin felt himself slow and relax at the warm sensation. It was comforting, the solid pressure of those soft lips against his. And how his brother’s hands cupped and rubbed at his cheeks. Darwin had chubby cheeks and his family had a habit of pinching them. Very rude. Still, he didn’t mind when it was like this. Even if he did, the kissing was worth it. He adored kisses. They made him feel so warm and loved. They had to be one of his favourite forms of intimacy.
They stayed like that, holding each other and sharing soft kisses. Kissing was always special. Gumball and Darwin were already pretty affectionate towards each other but this was something they didn’t get to do too often. It was saved for quieter moments when it was just them. Late at night when everyone was asleep and one of them had crawled into the other’s bed to spend more time together. Or home alone on the couch, while they sat together and rewatched a crappy movie. Sometimes they’d even sneak one or two kisses in normal settings when no one was looking.
That was fun. Except for when Gumball got cocky and for some reason became hellbent on embarrassing Darwin! Like there was this one time he was talking with a friend right? And they turned around to show him something. And Gumball grabbed his face and kissed him! Darwin couldn’t even yell at him because his friend hadn’t noticed, and if he brought it up he’d be the one who let it slip!
Anyway, kissing was also one of those things that was only for them. They didn’t get to kiss their girlfriends that often with Carrie’s touch aversion and Penny wanting to wait until she and Gumball got a bit older before doing a ton kissing.
But it still felt really good, so they tried kissing each other. They already had a habit of being a little closer than normal so it wasn’t a big deal once they got over the intial weirdness of it. Soon enough it became their new favourite thing. They weren’t able to tell anyone but they liked that. It was like their little secret.
