Work Text:

"Come on, please?"

"Why do you even want to go? 'Thought parties weren't your scene."

"Yeah, but it's the start of summer! We're not gonna get a chance to do this again, probably!"

"...Alright. Whatever."

That little exchange was how Street Urchin ended up in front of her girlfriend Caramel Choux's house, parked waiting for her. She insisted they both at least made an appearance at an end of the year party hosted by someone on the cheer team she knew from helping with end of the year preparations weeks ago. Street didn't do crowds. Street folded to Caramel. Hence why she's here at all.

In the distance, a gentle click of a door and the click of heels on paved steps as Caramel Choux quickly began walking over to the biker. "Sorry, Street Urchin! I took too long…" Caramel was wearing something unexpectedly casual, that being an off the shoulder sweater that left room for her shoulders to breathe, a plaid skirt, and inch tall heeled flats. No hat. She also had an apologetic look on her face. Street wanted to kiss it off.

"Nah. No worries. These types of things don't have a deadline or whatever, nobody's expecting you to show up exactly at 8:00." Street revved up Black Tiger as Caramel sat behind her, arms wrapping around her in tandem. She smelled like vanilla with some sort of spice. "I hope I'm not too underdressed… I think this is enough, right?" Caramel Choux wondered behind her, and though Street Urchin couldn't see her from her position at the front and speeding through the highways she no doubt could imagine the expression on her face. Worried. Nervous, maybe? Kinda stupid. "Seriously. This is a lot less fancy than you're thinkin'. You're probably goin' to be one of the best dressed there. You look… cute." Street Urchin said, suddenly glad the blonde in the back couldn't see her creeping flush on her face. "Ah, really? Thank you, Street Urchin!" Caramel was happy. Subconscious drive fulfilled.

Street Urchin parked a ways away from the house the party was at, no doubt easily discernable from the rest due to the booming music in the distance. The pair got off the bike and their hands found each others', feeling interlocking fingers and a reassuring thumb swiping over skin.

Immediately when they walked in, the thick smell of weed hit Street's nose and she immediately wanted to leave. Contrary to popular belief, she couldn't stand the smell of the stuff. She looked down at Caramel and saw her face had contorted into one of polite disgust. They shuffled through the crowd of what looked like everyone they knew and then some. "You good? Street asked her girlfriend once they'd gotten to a spot they could properly stand at and not get pushed, her voiced raised in an effort to speak over the noise. "We can leave if you want." "We don't need to. I'll just… get used to it. Don't worry, Street!" Caramel said with her signature 'can-do' smile. Fine. Street sighed.

"I'll get us a drink." Street shuffled away in the crowd over to the makeshift 'bar,' essentially a poor excuse making up for two fold out tables with an assortment of alcohol littered around and a single, concerningly large bowl of chips. Street poured two cups of the only non alcoholic drink in the vicinity: nondescript soda. Someone ripped the label off. Ignoring how weird that was, she made her way back to her girlfriend's position on the wall. Wait. Something was off.

The song playing changed. Someone was talking to her. Caramel was doing her best to be polite and ignore the person's… advances? Street was pretty sure some underclassman was making moves on Caramel. He was clearly drunk. She could vaguely make out what they were saying, and she didn't like it one bit.

"Wanna dance?"

"Oh, no thanks. I'm waiting for my girlfriend." Emphasis on girlfriend.

"Aw, c'mon baby! I can change your mind!"

"I'm sorry, I don't want to."

"C'moooooonn…!"

Street Urchin had to stop herself from going up and causing a scene. She walked right up, clearly irritated, and cleared her throat to get the little shit's attention. "Is there a problem?" She asserted, glaring at the intruder. "Oh! Uh. Uh. Nothing. Nothing's wrong. Sorry." The underclassman tried to act casual, waving his hands like he was brushing this whole exchange off. "Dyke." He quietly muttered, annoyed, and walked away.

Street Urchin nearly pounced on that little bitch, but she felt a hand at her wrist stopping her. "Urchin. Stop. It's fine." Caramel Choux's voice was attempting to soothe her, but she looked just about as irritated as Street Urchin was under her veil of acceptance. "What? Seriously? He doesn't get to talk to you like that!" Street Urchin stammered. "Sweetheart. It's ok." Though Caramel used the petname she'd used in much lovelier contexts in the past, it was more or less a command here. Calm down. Shut up.

"...Fine." Street Urchin avoided the other's gaze. She could let it go.

"Street, if it's ok, though… I'd like to go somewhere else. This place is making me dizzy. I'm sorry, but-" And that was all Street needed to grab her hand and lead them out the door and into the cool night air. They left their drinks behind (Caramel insisted that they at least leave them upright on the porch to prevent spills and littering) and began the walk to Black Tiger.

"Y'didn't have to apologize back there, y'know. There's a reason why I don't go to these." Street Urchin said as she sat down on her bike and revved the engine. "I know, but… we were only here for fifteen minutes before I chickened out. That's lame." Caramel said, assuming her usual position attached to Street's waist. "Lame? What's lame is that asshole calling you that. We wouldn't have missed much if we went. Parties are only not lame when you're with the right people. Those aren't the right people." Street Urchin assured her. "I guess… Thank you." "Don't mention it. When do your parents want you back?"

"I might have told them I'd be staying at your apartment. Is that ok? I thought we'd be out later." Street Urchin blinked once. A beat of silence passed. "Yeah. They'd flip if they knew you'd be here. Guess we're heading home."

They stopped at a convinience store and got snacks for what Caramel Choux called a 'not lame movie night.' Who knew quick stops still sold DVDs?

They woke up cuddled into each other on the couch, the menu of the movie they'd picked the night before playing on Street Urchin's long unused CRT.
