Work Text:
Leah wakes to the sound of rain; it patters against their bedroom window. Soft shadows dance around the room but for a few minutes, she tries to fall back into slumber. Unfortunately, her farmer stirs.
She hears the covers move aside, feels the loss of warmth before the bed dips, and Leah can practically sense her wife stretch and get ready for the day. This awfully wet and cold day. This will not do.
Most mornings Leah will wake and start the day with her farmer. She enjoys the view: watching her wife strip and dress into work clothes, witnessing the tender moments these mornings bring, and Leah flourishes in the extra kisses and touches her wife gives her. But today it’s raining, and Leah hates the rain. And she hates her sweet farmer leaving her, so she tries a new approach.
Leah sits up and rubs her eyes; she looks for her wife who is across the room with her dresser open and looking through clothes. If Leah is going to be successful, she must act quickly.
“Kendall?” Leah calls, “Can you come here?”
A pause then movement follows. The edge of the bed sinks and she’s aware she has the attention of her beautiful wife before her. Leah wastes no time and wraps her arms around Kendall’s torso. She rests her chin on her shoulder and flashes her the best puppy dog eyes she can muster.
“It’s pouring outside. How about we stay in and snuggle up?” Leah asks and adds, “Don’t go babe…please?”
She can feel the farmer’s body stiff then a pause. She stops herself from smiling because now Leah knows she’s got her farmer around her finger. If someone had told Leah a few years ago she would marry and learn to be vulnerable and soft, she’d laugh. However, upon meeting Kendall and falling in love, the farmer softens her heart and continues to help her grow in ways she never thought possible.
“Okay,” Kendall says, “I’ll stay.”
Victory tore through Leah as she let out a sequel of delight. She threw herself into her wife’s awaiting arms. Laughter escapes from both as they settle back into bed. Under the covers, Leah buries her face into Kendall’s chest, her arms encircle around her, and their breathing syncs.
“Did you plan this?” Kendall breaks the silence.
“Shhh—” Leah shushes her and places a hand over her mouth, “—let me have this, baby.”
With the nickname, Kendall folds. The farmer relaxes, though she’s full of amusement, and sinks back into the pillows. Leah then sneaks a few kisses across her wife’s forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin before finally finding her resting spot against Kendall’s chest. The two drift into a peaceful slumber while the rain carries on. And Leah sleeps better than ever before.
