Still, With You

Summary:

Taehyung agreed to the marriage out of love, love for parents who never quite knew how to return it. Jungkook accepted it out of certainty, having wanted Taehyung long before fate gave him a name for it.

They stood at the beginning as strangers, bound by duty and expectation.

Yet somewhere between fear and choice, something quiet began.

And before love found them, they learned how to stay.

Chapter Text

The grand hall was bathed in warm golden light, chandeliers glittering above rows of flowers and white silk. Every guest whispered in awe at the sight, yet for Taehyung, standing hidden behind the doors, the splendor only felt like a heavy curtain of suffocation. His palms were damp, his chest rising and falling too fast for comfort.

He had grown up obeying his parents without protest. Even when they rarely showed him affection, even when their love felt more like duty than warmth, Taehyung never wavered in giving them all of himself. He told himself again and again that perhaps, if he was good enough, obedient enough, they might look at him with pride. That was why he was here today, dressed in ivory, trembling under layers of fabric and responsibility, marrying a man he barely knew.

Jungkook.

The name itself carried weight, a reputation that sent shivers through boardrooms and social circles alike. Jungkook was powerful, intimidating, someone who walked through life with the confidence of a man used to getting everything he wanted. His stern expression and unreadable gaze only made him seem untouchable. And now… he was to be Taehyung’s husband.

What Taehyung didn’t know, what no one had whispered to him, was that Jungkook had known of him for years. Since Taehyung was a teenager, quietly standing beside his parents at company galas, his soft smile hidden in the crowd. Jungkook’s eyes had always found him. He had never confessed, never dared to taint that innocence with his own greedy desires, but when his parents proposed the idea of an arranged marriage, Jungkook had accepted without hesitation. Not because of duty. Not because of family business. But because Taehyung was the one thing he had always wanted, and now fate had handed him the chance.

Inside the hall, Jungkook stood at the altar in a sleek black suit, his broad shoulders straight, his jaw set. To the world, he looked stoic, maybe even cold. But inside, his heart was beating hard, steady, like a drum of restrained joy. He forced his lips not to curve, refused to let the pride and the warmth in his chest show too openly. He couldn’t scare Taehyung any more than he already was.

The doors opened.

Taehyung appeared, small in presence but radiant in beauty, his soft features framed by the delicate fall of his blond hair, his nervous hands clutching the bouquet. Every step down the aisle was heavy with fear, with the weight of an unknown future. But Jungkook’s eyes never left him. He drank in every detail, the way Taehyung bit at his lip, the way his lashes lowered, the way he seemed both fragile and unyieldingly brave.

When Taehyung reached him, Jungkook held out his hand. For a heartbeat, the younger hesitated, staring at those long fingers, at the strength and power they represented. Then, with a trembling breath, he placed his hand in Jungkook’s. Warmth spread immediately through Jungkook’s chest, like fire licking at ice.

The ceremony unfolded around them, words spoken, vows exchanged, but Taehyung barely heard them. All he could feel was the steady grip of Jungkook’s hand, firm but gentle, grounding him. And though Jungkook’s face remained unreadable, Taehyung swore he felt something softer hidden behind that gaze, something unspoken, something only meant for him.

To the world, this was a business arrangement. To Taehyung, it was sacrifice. But to Jungkook… it was the beginning of the one thing he had always wanted.

And though Taehyung didn’t know it yet, his life was about to change, not through duty, but through a love he never expected.

……

The reception hall glittered with wealth and prestige. Crystal glasses chimed, polished silverware gleamed, and the soft hum of string instruments filled the air as men in tailored suits and women draped in jewels mingled with one another. It was a room filled with power, businessmen, investors, heirs of empires and yet, the only thing Jungkook could focus on was the delicate figure at his side.

Taehyung sat quietly, a picture of grace in his cream-colored suit, yet the sadness in his eyes betrayed him. His smile was polite, his voice soft whenever someone offered congratulations, but his hands fidgeted with the edge of the tablecloth or his fork whenever he thought no one was watching. He looked lost, like a boy who had been pushed into a storm with no map.

Jungkook never let go of him. His hand rested securely on the small of Taehyung’s back, his thumb brushing soothing circles whenever he felt the younger stiffen. Every so often, he leaned down to murmur something, small words of reassurance that only Taehyung could hear. “You’re doing well,” or “Ignore them, just look at me.” Each time, Taehyung’s shoulders eased just a little, his lips pressing into a tiny, hesitant smile.

Across the room, Jungkook’s closest friends raised their glasses toward him. Namjoon, Hoseok, Yoongi, Seokjin, and Jimin, each of them knew what this marriage meant to him. They had been there when he confessed years ago, admitting he couldn’t stop watching the kind-eyed boy who trailed silently behind his parents at company galas. Now, seeing Taehyung at Jungkook’s side, they were happy for him. They nodded knowingly, smiles warm, silently reminding Jungkook that he wasn’t alone in protecting the fragile boy now bound to him.

But the warmth of the moment cooled when Taehyung’s parents made their entrance.

They walked with pride in their steps, their expressions smug as they approached the couple, clearly savoring the fact that their son was now tied to the Jeon family, the most powerful name in the room. The way they looked at Taehyung, however, carried no pride, no softness. Only calculation. As though he was a chess piece that had been moved into position.

Taehyung’s breath hitched. His fingers tightened around his fork, knuckles pale, but then he lifted his gaze with forced gentleness. “Mother, Father,” he greeted, his voice tender despite the storm swirling inside him. His eyes trembled, silently pleading for answers he knew he’d never receive. ‘Why me? Why now? Why only like this?’

He swallowed those questions, tucking them away behind a mask of obedience. As always.

Jungkook felt the shift immediately. His arm tightened around Taehyung’s waist, pulling him subtly closer until Taehyung’s thigh brushed his. The gesture was protective, grounding. His dark eyes flickered toward the Kims with a sharp edge, a silent warning that he had seen enough of their games.

The Kims didn’t notice. They turned their attention to Mr. and Mrs. Jeon, their tones dripping with false politeness as they discussed business, mergers, market expansions, profits. It was the language of sharks. Taehyung sat still, his gaze lowered to his plate. He didn’t understand much of what was being said, his father had never allowed him into their business dealings, never thought him worthy of being taught. To them, his only role was to be displayed, polished, beautiful, and married off for gain.

So, he remained quiet, pushing at the food on his plate with his fork, pretending to eat while his heart ached.

Jungkook leaned down suddenly, his lips brushing Taehyung’s ear, his voice low and intimate, meant for him alone. “Stop playing with it,” he murmured softly, eyes flicking toward the untouched dish. “If you don’t like it, I’ll have them bring you something else. Tell me what you want.”

Taehyung blinked, startled. He glanced up, catching Jungkook’s gaze, warm, steady, waiting. The knot in his chest loosened just a little. He whispered back, almost inaudible, “I’m fine… I don’t want to trouble anyone.”

Jungkook’s lips curved into the faintest smirk, the first genuine softness he had shown all night. “You’ll never trouble me, Taehyung. Remember that.”

And just like that, the crowded room, the smug faces of his parents, the coldness of the world outside seemed to blur. For the first time that day, Taehyung felt seen.

The reception was still alive with chatter and laughter, glasses clinking and business deals whispered under the disguise of congratulations. Yet amid the sea of voices, Jungkook’s deep tone cut through with calm authority.

“My husband and I will excuse ourselves now,” he announced, his arm firmly around Taehyung’s waist. “We have a flight to catch.”

A ripple of surprise and curiosity spread through the crowd, but no one dared to object. Jungkook rarely explained himself, yet tonight he’d offered more than enough. All that mattered was that no one missed the steel in his voice, the kind that ended conversations before they began.

Taehyung’s heart raced. The idea of leaving filled him with nervous anticipation. But as his eyes flickered toward his parents, who were still basking in their smug triumph, he felt a quiet sigh slip from his lips.

Finally, distance. Finally, escape. He didn’t know what awaited him, but the thought of being away from those cold eyes, from being paraded like a possession, made his chest feel lighter.

Beside him, Jungkook’s presence was steady, grounding. In the few days Taehyung had spent getting to know him, he had learned one truth, Jungkook was intimidating, yes, his aura commanded respect without effort but beneath that exterior, he was kind. He had not once raised his voice or forced him into anything. For that, Taehyung felt relief… relief, and gratitude. Especially when memories of his father’s past “introductions” resurfaced, smirking heirs who looked at him not as a person, but as a prize, a body to claim. Jungkook was nothing like them.

The private jet was quiet, its luxury subdued in warm lighting and the soft hum of engines. Taehyung sat by the window, staring out at the endless night sky, the stars scattered like diamonds. Jungkook sat beside him, attentive without being overbearing. Every so often, he leaned closer to ask if Taehyung was comfortable, if he wanted water, if he was cold. Small gestures, subtle yet heavy with meaning.

Taehyung found himself stealing glances, at Jungkook’s sharp profile, the way his jaw relaxed when he leaned back, the way his gaze softened when it turned toward him. It made his chest ache with something unfamiliar, something that felt dangerously close to… comfort.

The flight passed peacefully, almost too quickly, and soon the jet touched down on the Jeon family’s private island. The night air was warm and tinged with salt, the sound of waves crashing faintly against the shore. The villa that awaited them was breathtaking, tall glass walls reflecting moonlight, rooms glowing with soft amber lamps, the vast ocean stretching endlessly beyond.

Inside, Jungkook showed him around with calm ease, pointing out where everything was before stopping at the master bedroom. The large bed sat in the center, sheets pristine and inviting, but Taehyung’s chest tightened at the sight.

This was real. They were husband and husband now. This wasn’t just a wedding for the public, not just a paper agreement. Tonight, they would share a space. A home. A bed.

Taehyung lowered his gaze, his fingers brushing against the hem of his coat. Nervousness coiled tightly in his stomach. He should accept this, he would accept this. Jungkook was his husband now, but still, his heart raced at the thought.

Jungkook noticed. He always noticed. Stepping closer, he tilted his head slightly, his tone softer than Taehyung had ever heard it. “If you want to sleep in another room, I can arrange it.”

Taehyung’s head snapped up, eyes wide. For a moment, silence lingered between them, filled only by the distant sound of the waves. Then, slowly, Taehyung shook his head. His voice was shy, barely above a whisper. “It’s fine… I’ll stay here.”

Jungkook’s lips curved into a smile, small, but genuine, carrying a warmth that settled into Taehyung’s chest. “Good,” he murmured. “Because I want to hold you in my sleep.”

The words made Taehyung’s breath stutter. His cheeks warmed, his heart beating fast, yet instead of fear, there was a strange sense of safety curling around him. For the first time, he allowed himself to believe that maybe, just maybe, this marriage wasn’t just a cage built by his parents’ hands. Perhaps it could be something else, something gentler, something real.

And as Jungkook reached out, brushing his knuckles softly along Taehyung’s hand before guiding him toward the bed, Taehyung thought that being bound to this man for life might not be a curse after all.

…….

The soft sound of rushing water echoed through the villa’s master bathroom, steam curling around the edges of the frosted glass. Taehyung stood under the stream, eyes shut, letting the warmth soak into his tense body. He pressed his palms flat against the tiled wall, chest rising and falling unevenly as thoughts tumbled relentlessly in his mind.

This is it. Tonight… we’ll be husbands in every sense.

The idea made his stomach twist. He wasn’t scared of Jungkook, no, the older man had shown him nothing but patience and a kind of quiet protectiveness. But still, the weight of expectation pressed heavily on him. What if he wasn’t enough? What if Jungkook regretted this? Taehyung bit down on his lip, trying to steady himself. He wanted to do this, not just because it was expected, but because Jungkook had been nothing like the cruel heirs his father once pushed him toward. Jungkook had given him space, given him respect. For that alone, Taehyung wanted to repay him, to give him something in return.

He finished quickly, drying himself and pulling on the silk robe left for him, the fabric cool against his heated skin. His feet felt like lead as he padded back into the bedroom, heart thumping harder with every step. The wide bed looked impossibly large, waiting, and he perched on the edge like a bird ready to take flight.

Minutes dragged by. He fidgeted with the hem of his robe, with the sheets, with the buttons on the nightstand. He couldn’t keep still, his mind swinging wildly between wanting to run and wanting to stay. His heart whispered for him to trust Jungkook, but his nerves screamed otherwise.

The bathroom door opened.

A wave of steam drifted out, carrying with it the clean scent of soap and water. Taehyung’s head jerked up then froze.

Jungkook stepped out, damp hair falling messily over his forehead, droplets trailing down the hard lines of his chest and shoulders. A single towel was wrapped low around his waist, leaving nothing of his sculpted torso to the imagination. The soft light caught the curves of muscle, the sharp V of his hips, the strength carved into his body from years of discipline.

Taehyung’s breath hitched. His fingers clutched the sheets beneath him, knuckles white. He had seen Jungkook before, of course, in suits that made him look powerful and untouchable. But like this, raw, strong, unshielded… it was different. It was overwhelming.

Jungkook noticed. Of course he did. His sharp eyes flickered instantly to Taehyung, catching the way his lips parted, the way his chest rose just a little too fast. A slow, knowing smirk tugged at his mouth as he leaned casually against the doorframe for a moment, letting the silence stretch.

“Like what you see?” his voice was low, teasing, laced with amusement.

Taehyung’s face flushed instantly, heat flooding his cheeks. He dropped his gaze, mortified at being caught, his hands twisting in the sheets. “I—I wasn’t—” he stammered, words tangling uselessly.

Jungkook chuckled, the sound deep and husky, and pushed himself away from the frame. Each step he took toward the bed was unhurried, deliberate, the weight of his presence filling the room. Taehyung’s pulse thudded wildly as he watched the older man move, equal parts intimidated and drawn in.

By the time Jungkook stopped before him, Taehyung was practically trembling, caught between the urge to shrink back and the desire to stay exactly where he was.

Jungkook tilted his head, crouching slightly so they were eye-level. His gaze softened, though the faint curve of his smirk remained. “Don’t be nervous, Taehyung,” he murmured, voice smooth but gentle, as if he could read every frantic thought running through the younger’s mind.

Taehyung swallowed hard, his lashes fluttering. He didn’t know what to say, what to do, only that his world felt small in this moment, just the two of them, the scent of soap and sea air, the warmth radiating from Jungkook’s body.

And as Jungkook reached out, brushing his fingertips lightly over Taehyung’s jaw, Taehyung realized that tonight wasn’t just about duty or expectation. It was the beginning of something entirely theirs.

…….

The air in the room seemed to still as Jungkook set his towel aside, slipping under the sheets with practiced ease. The mattress dipped with his weight, his body drawing closer, and Taehyung’s breath caught in his throat. His heart pounded so loudly he swore Jungkook must hear it.

Without rushing, Jungkook shifted, hovering above him, one arm braced against the bed while the other traced a careful line along Taehyung’s side. He caged him in, strong yet deliberate, making sure every movement gave Taehyung the chance to pull away if he wanted.

“Is this okay?” Jungkook’s voice was low, a murmur meant only for him. His eyes searched Taehyung’s face, dark with desire but soft with restraint.

Taehyung’s lips parted, his throat suddenly dry. For a heartbeat, he hesitated, nerves still coiled tight inside him but then he nodded, slow and shy, his lashes lowering. “...Yes.”

That single word seemed to undo something in Jungkook.

Leaning down, he brushed his lips against Taehyung’s in the faintest of touches. It was featherlight, tentative, like the first drop of rain on parched ground. Taehyung gasped softly at the contact, the heat of it startling him, but before he could gather his thoughts, Jungkook kissed him again, this time deeper, more certain.

The kiss was gentle at first, coaxing, allowing Taehyung to grow used to the sensation. But as soon as Taehyung’s hands lifted hesitantly, clutching at Jungkook’s shoulders, the older man’s control wavered. The kiss turned hungrier, the press of lips firmer, fuller, demanding yet careful not to overwhelm. Jungkook’s tongue traced the seam of Taehyung’s lips, seeking entry, and Taehyung, trembling but willing, parted for him.

A soft sound escaped Taehyung’s throat, a mixture of surprise and surrender, and Jungkook swallowed it eagerly, deepening the kiss until Taehyung was dizzy. Every tilt of Jungkook’s head, every brush of his mouth carried heat, but beneath it all, there was reverence, as though he was savoring something he had wanted for years but finally held in his arms.

Taehyung’s body melted beneath him, nerves giving way to warmth, and for the first time since the wedding, he stopped thinking about expectations or duty. All that existed was the press of Jungkook’s lips, the safety of his hold, and the fire slowly awakening inside him.

Jungkook pressed lingering kisses against the younger’s soft mouth before wandering further, down the line of his cheek, across the sharp edge of his jaw, and lower still, where the delicate skin of Taehyung’s neck awaited.

Each press of Jungkook’s lips was patient, unhurried. Sometimes he lingered long enough to suck gently, enough to make Taehyung’s breath catch and his fingers clutch tighter at the sheets. Taehyung shivered, overwhelmed by the strange mixture of tenderness and hunger in every touch.

When Jungkook drew back slightly, his gaze locked with Taehyung’s. His dark eyes burned with want but softened with restraint, asking silently for permission he refused to take without being given. His hand ghosted along Taehyung’s chest, resting lightly against the edge of his robe.

“Can I?” His voice was low, deep, but careful, holding back all the fire thrumming through him until Taehyung decided.

Taehyung’s breath trembled. He bit his plush lower lip, cheeks flushing as heat raced up his neck. For a moment, doubt flickered in his eyes but then he gave the smallest nod, shy yet sure.

Jungkook’s chest tightened at the sight. Slowly, reverently, he slipped the robe from Taehyung’s shoulders, pushing the fabric aside to reveal smooth skin touched by moonlight streaming through the glass windows. Taehyung tried to cover himself, instinctively curling in, but Jungkook gently caught his hands, pressing them back to the mattress.

“Don’t hide,” Jungkook murmured, his voice rougher now, breaking with awe. His gaze traced over Taehyung’s bare chest, the soft rise and fall with each uneven breath. “You’re… beautiful. Gorgeous.”

The words struck Taehyung harder than he expected. No one had said them like that before, with sincerity, not flattery, not calculation. His face burned deeper, and he turned his head slightly, overwhelmed, but Jungkook wouldn’t allow him to disappear into himself. He leaned in, capturing Taehyung’s lips again, slower this time, as if to anchor him in the moment.

The kiss was tender, reassuring, but when Jungkook began to trail lower, Taehyung gasped softly. His mouth pressed to the hollow of Taehyung’s throat, then down the smooth expanse of his chest. His lips brushed lightly over one nipple before circling back, teasing gently. Taehyung jolted at the sensation, a breathless whimper escaping before he could stop it.

Jungkook smiled against his skin, his voice a husky whisper as his mouth lingered there. “So responsive… my beautiful husband.”

Every kiss, every touch was a worship, and Taehyung, blushing, trembling, but allowing, realized that Jungkook wasn’t just claiming him. He was cherishing him, piece by piece.
