Work Text:
It was Sunday.
She was wrapped around her blankets, refusing to come out of her sleeping bag, not because she was sleepy, but because she couldn't get out of her head what Okarun had done the day before. She didn't actually fully believe he would wait for her, she even told him to go home, and he still came back to walk with her. She just couldn't think in any way of telling him thanks.
That was until she realized, maybe she could gift him something? Maybe even handmade! She got out of her sleeping bag and grabbed a bunch of papers, folding them together piece by piece, patiently doing so. Then, with a few markers, she painted the new figure slowly, and carefully, until it was done. The only thing that she needed was a little box and something to put inside to protect her creation, and of course a little letter.
Okarun, on the other hand, was thinking what to give Momo as an apology for practically destroying her house along sides Evil Eye, going around in circles while sitting on his chair, humming loudly with his eyes shut, biting a pen he always had on his desk. He remembered his dear friend mention something in the middle of their conversations, tiny, a little detail. But it was enough.
He got up and grabbed his backpack, getting some stuff out and leaving it on top of his bed. Counting all the money he had, making sure he had what he estimated the gift would cost, and went outside of his room, quickly running outside of his house and walking to the mall with a big smile.
He arrived at a cute looking pastel yellow and white store, looking around for a certain piece of clothing Momo had mentioned she always wanted but never saved enough money to pay it. Once he found it, and checked that the measurements were precise, he bought the gift and went home quickly. He was away a couple of minutes only, he wrapped the gift on a funny looking ghosts wrapping paper.
The next morning was Monday, so they would see each other at school, Momo arrived first, and waited for Okarun while playing with the box in which her gift for him was.
He was walking nervously, wishing the clothes wouldn't get wrinkled while he was walking with it inside of a little bag, inside of his backpack.
Okarun arrived quite early, walking past the gates, he saw Momo, they both said hello to each other and started walking towards the roof, where almost nobody went to. Jiji was on his way to school, Aira was studying inside her class, they were completely alone for a short while.
Once they arrived at the roof, they sat on the floor and talked for a while, until Okarun mentioned the little box with funny looking aliens that Momo was still playing with her hands, she stopped talking and looked at him in the eyes.
-It's... It's a gift —She turned her head away while making a pout— I made it myself, thanks for walking me home the other day... —She gave him the box and smiled at him softly
-I... Thanks! —Okarun yelled— Oh my god, I'm so sorry, it's the first time someone gives me a gift and I didn't know what to say or how to react and- —He was cut off, Momo placed her finger in front of his mouth
-It's fine, open it! I wanna see your reaction —She sat closer to him
-Actually... —He grabbed his backpack and got the wrapped bag out, giving it to her— I bought this as an apology for... Destroying your house... —He rubbed the back of his head and gave her the bag
-Oh, you didn't have to, really... —She received the gift and both blushed slightly, turning their gaze away from the other— Why don't we open it at the same time?
-At, at the same time?
-Yeah!
-Okay...
While Momo started unwrapping the bag she had received, Okarun was unfolding the paper off the box, carefully, he liked the aliens paper a lot, she got a dress out of the bag at the same time he grabbed the origami Godzilla handcrafted creature from the box, they both stayed silent while looking at their gifts.
A beautiful dress which rested on top of the knees, sleeveless but comfy on the chest, a soft pink colour almost pastel like, with little accessories with a red colour around the waist, ruffled edges on the bottom and a heart right under the red belt.
A realistically looking Godzilla made purely out of paper, decorated with various colored pencils and markers, the same size as his hand.
They both slowly turned to face each other.
-Did you made it yourself?
-Is this the dress I couldn't buy?
They both asked at the same time
-You... You first —Okarun said
-Is this the dress I said I couldn't save enough money to buy? —She asked, gently leaving it inside the bag and grabbing one of his hands
-I, well, you, you said you liked it and that you wanted it and that you couldn't buy it and since I remembered where it was I thought that it would be a nice thing to gift and- —Momo put her finger on top of his mouth again
-Breath, calm down
-I remembered you mentioned it while we were talking about the aliens, and since I had the money already...
-Oh my gosh! Thank you so much Okarun! —She hugged him, being slightly on top of him while balancing herself
-Ah, the... Th-The Godzilla figurine! I still have it on my hands! —He said, Momo realized what she was doing and backed up quickly— My turn, did you make this yourself?
-Oh, yeah, I did! It was kinda hard at first, but then I got the hang of it! Do you like it? —She asked while smiling softly, he looked away shyly and blushing
-I... I love it...
They both stayed silent until the bell rang, Momo put her gift inside her backpack and ran to her classroom, Okarun securing the origami Godzilla inside the box again and hiding it inside his backpack so his classmates wouldn't touch it, running behind Momo to reach his own classroom.
